On TV and now in the movies??

55

Sorry I didn't blog last week but I decided to grab a few days away before a very hectic end of September and October. We managed to get a very 'affordable' charter flight to Spain so packed our hand luggage and went for a week of sunshine after the dismal summer we've endured here!

Although I wasn't on air, I knew that Daniel was demonstrating the Abdoer Twist so I turned on the TV to see how he was doing – he has been having some physio on his knee lately so it's a great machine for him to be able to work his abs. Well it sold out so I guess you guys like the machine too!

Later in the evening I rang home to tell him we had watched and he said, "Did you see Sophie?" Puzzled, I said no, and he told me to turn on the TV cos she was on 'again'! It turns out that there was no model booked for the later airings of the Today's Special Value which was an epilator. As Sophie uses one at home she was apparently the perfect 'stand-in'. It was a bit weird – I wasn't on QVC but both my children were… do you think they are after my job??

We didn't really watch much TV after that – after all, we can do that at home. It's just lovely to be able to relax in the sunshine and look out to the sparkling sea and all the vessels of various sizes close in or far away on the horizon and imagine where they are en route to, and what cargo they may be carrying.

A couple of days before we came home a beautiful sailing yacht came into the bay and, rather than sailing past, it seemed to be sailing up and down almost as though it was looking for something. That went on all day, which was a bit strange. Then the next day it was back and so was a bright red salvage vessel! This needed closer investigation with the binoculars. There were loads of people standing on the deck of the yacht, but I couldn't really make out what they were doing.

It transpires that they were shooting some scenes from the latest Bruce Willis movie, apparently about an American boy going missing while on holiday with his parents in Spain. So I'm wondering, were they pointing the cameras into shore when some weird woman in a lavender sundress was checking them out with her binoculars? Maybe there will be another Julia Roberts in a Hollywood movie… albeit a 'bit' part!!!! Have any of you ever seen yourselves in the background of a film or TV show?

Well, I'm back to work and raring to go for a very busy few weeks. We have our Beauty Day on Sunday – watch out for the maximum Easy Pays – and then a Pilates TSV Monday midnight and into Tuesday. Want to get yourself looking and feeling good by Christmas then give it a go, it has really helped me.

Much love,
Julia xx

Julia, if you hate the American expression ‘no brainer’ why do you use it? Sorry, just felt I had to say it… Wouldn’t it be more productive to find the equivalent English expression?

    Hi Julia,
Gosh you have just made me so envious!!! Not a healthy emotion though! Very nice that you are able to just hop on a plane & go off to your no doubt beautiful house in Espana!! Sounds idyllic. You’re right…everyone is talking about our awful summer but really what did we expect?! It’s easy to see how we can get SAD when we can’t get away isn’t it? Didn’t see your 2 by the way. You do ‘keep it in the family’ certainly!
    Have a good weekend.

I love my machine and the results and I have got many friends poised to watch so we can all share the pilates love, I always learn something new from Marjolein every visit. I can’t wait to tune in. As I always say on the Lighter Living Forum Happy Pilates to all.

Hi Julia Sounds like you had a interesting break, I have not been on tele in person, but our house and front garden were used in a promo for WATCH OUT THER IS A THIEF ABOUT many years ago when we lived in Perivale and we got paid the princly sum of 20 pounds (which was a lot of money in those days)I think it aired on tele a few times.

    Hi Julia,
Am so jealous of you, we too have a villa in Spain, we were last out there in July/ August – which seems like ages ago now! It’s wonderful to be able to go ‘as the fancy takes you’ for a few days, taking only hand luggage and arriving at your home from home. Our villa is in Mazzarron, Murcia on the South coast – where is your’s?
Glad to see you are back on telly again- you are an inspiration- keep it up.

    Hi Julia,
I hope you enjoyed your break, I use to work shifts in a hospital so I know what it’s like continually jigsawing housework, meals, shopping etc, so I’m sure you deserved it.
As for your children, I think it’s being in the right place at the right time and they obviously feel comfortable on screen or they wouldn’t get asked.
Interesting that Pauline lived in Perivale as that was where I was born and brought up, Horsenden Lane South, did you know that a lot of Dr. Who episodes were filmed there too although after I had moved away.
    Best wishes,
    Sue.

    Hi Julia
Spooky, we watched a Bruce Willis film last night… how weird’s that? Will have to keep our eyes open for that one, the lady in the lavender dress with binoculars… now that sounds like a good film title to me!
Not been in a film or in the background myself, but our property was, just before we bought it 7 years ago. We had only just signed the contract and Escape to the Country was on TV and I thought I was seeing things… I managed to press the record button on the old tape machine and there it was… our new house. Neither the vendor or estate agents mentioned it had been filmed and I was mortified that everybody had seen the inside, before we had even moved in and invited anybody around!
Although, it is quite good because we can at least show people what it was like when we moved in (very 1970’s) and what we’ve done to it since!
Glad to hear you had a good break and are raring to go with the Pilates TSV.

I do realise how fortunate I am to have a house in Spain, but it is my only vice!!! I don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t go out much ( apart from the footie ) so I just saved my pennies and put them to good use.
I know what you mean about SAD ……. I’m sure I suffer from it in the Winter – doesn’t have to be hot just blue skies brings a smile to most of our faces.

Thanks for your kind comments – it’s nice to be thought of as an inspiration!
Our house is in Javea, Costa Blanca. We don’t go in the height of summer cos I can’t get time off work now that I no longer need it to take the children away in the school holidays. I don’t mind actually cos it can get unbearably hot and anyway it means the flights are cheaper.
We rent it out instead and that helps to pay for the excursions at other times of the year.

I didn’t know they used to film Dr. Who in Perivale. The episode I was in was done at the studios in White City.

Hi Julia, I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, but I just wanted to ask if it was possible that QVC would consider in the future, doing a TSV for the customers who already own a Pilates machine? perhaps we could have some DVD’s on special offer or power cords etc. It just seems that we seem to miss out! I thought you would be the best person to ask as you are a huge fan of Pilates and perhaps you could put a word in for us! I will keep my fingers crossed. best wishes Sue Lawes

Hi Julia, Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my comments and remember me when I called in. I felt more than a bit tongue tied but it was a thrill to be able to speak to you and Marjolein.I admire your courage in sharing your personal story with pilates and weight loss. I would love to see some footage from the early days of pilates on qvc.It is amazing how life changing the aero pilates machines are and yes every house should have one.I have experienced the weight loss but more than that I am certain the aero pilates routine has contributed to me being able to be anti depressant medication free for 12 months.I have one question Do you know how I would be able to purchse the box and pole accessary? I have tried Qvc UK and Rio beauty with no success. I know it is still available in the US but it seems it has not been available in the UK for some time.Well I best go this is getting too long! but I could talk pilates forever! It would be great to see you on the Lighter Living Forum, if you ever have time be sure to check out Marjolein’s article entitled The Spritual Laws of Aero Pilates. Happy Pilates to you and Thanks again. Rebecca.

    Hi Julia
Glad to hear you had a nice break, I watched you with the TSV and decided to purchase the pilates machine as I listened to everything you said and I feel I need to kickstart my diet and excercise. I have just had my 50th birthday in July and to be honest I feel so low I have gained so much weight and tried walking which I just hated and ended up with a bad back and pain in my heels. So I have taken the plunge and decided to get out of this rut and try to get my confidence back in myself to look good again so hopefully the pilates machine will help me along with good diet. I will let you know how I get on once I receive my machine.

Happy belated 50th birthday. I am so pleased you decided to get the Pilates TSV. Take it slowly at first – particularly the cardio board – cos I don’t want you to make yourself so achy that you won’t get back on it!!! Use the whole 30 day money back guarantee and if it’s not for you send it back BUT do persevere. The exercises seem alien at first, but once you know the sequence and the correct technique it becomes much more pleasurable.
Good Luck with it, and keep me posted

    Hi Susan
I just spoke to her tonight and she is sounding a bit more cheerful. My lovely Chris went to stay with her for a couple of days as I was absolutely snowed under and I think that has definitely perked her up, and at last the new medication seems to be having an effect

    Dear Julia,
Happy birthday QVC, have a lovely weekend.
I am writing to you because I heard you say on one of your shows that you have lost your favourite earrings, if they are the thread through ones,I have a pair which have never been worn and are still in their box. Just havent got round to it, even though I have had them years. They are very pretty though, and am happy to send you them as a gift, if you would like them. I too am 54 and a Gemini(may23rd) and have just purchased the pilates TSV of which I hope it will make me feel better as I suffer with diabetes type 2 and other ailments. I am very busty so other excersices are harder to do, so hopefully , with willpower I can get fit again.
Please e-mail about the earrings, and I will post them to QVC towers if that is ok. Luv to everyone, Lynne.
PS. I know how upsetting it can be to loose something you really like.

    Hello Lynne
That is a lovely thing to offer. I’m not really supposed to accept gifts BUT ………………!!!
I hope the Pilates works for you. Take it easy at first and definitely have the headrest raised when you are jumping – it makes me feel queasy otherwise!
Thanks again for your kindness I really miss them!
    love

    Hello Lynn
I was just checking through the posts and realised I missed your message.
It sounds like you have had the most horrible time – it never rains but it pours! I truly hope that things are starting to improve for you and so glad we were there to help with your shopping needs and hopefully a bit of company for you to.
I went to the Breast Cancer Care Charity Fashion Show last week with Charlie, and we will be hosting the ‘Be Aware Show You Care’ show together on Wednesday at 7p.m. – I will be thinking of you.
    All my love
    Julia xxxxxxxx
