On a complete skincare routine for mature skin…

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Duo Q: I'm 56 and have basically never used anything other than soap and water to clean my face. I do use a night cream but that's all. I have combination skin and just a couple of very fine lines around my eyes.  I'm confused as to what would be the best beauty routine for me though.

I don't wear any make up other than mascara and lipstick but do wear a 50+ sun block when I go on holiday as I have a couple of blotches which were due to a lot of sun bathing when I was a teenager. Can you help with a good beauty routine for me please?

Alison: Obviously you've been conscious of SPF factors in recent years which is fantastic. On a daily basis and through the winter you could use Ultrasun SPF 30 Day Cream. This should help to prevent future damage and is great especially for more mature skin. UltraSun also have an SPF50 if you want a higher SPF – and all their range offers all-day protection.

There are an awful lot of ranges to choose from, but when you haven't used anything before it's best not to jump into anything too complicated. Start off with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Superskin Moisturiser and Superskin Concentrate.

This would be best to start you off on, particularly because of your age group. Start off on this simple routine and if you want to go on further and get more results on lines or your eyes, then I can suggest other products and ranges for you. See how you get on, and how you enjoy the Liz Earle products too.

    Dear Alison,
Im reading your emails religiously and have tried to send my questions but the email always seem to bounce back, Im in desperate need of your expertise.
Like many women I am a beauty junkie and I have loads and loads of expensive products. Despite this I have no proper routine. I believe this is a fairly common problem and so I am wasting a lot of money as I buy all the latest must haves but dont really know how to use them. I have serums, oils, cleansers and moisturisers coming out of my ears but still lack a routine..
If you could help with a cleansing and moisturising routine I would be most grateful. I do not mind spending a bit of money as long as I will use the products.
This time of year my skin is rather sensitive with redness on my cheeks, it is also really dehydrated and I also sometimes break out in spots. I believe that the break outs are mainly caused by the sensitivity and so therefore am not so bothered about attacking them at this stage, its the sensitivity, dehydration and the FINE LINES which appear everywhere (when did that happen? Over night?). I am 31yrs old. My skin almost feel a size too small and some products and foundations make my eyes red and watery and my skin stings. I do not have this sensitivity in the summer its starts about now every year…
I have been a fan of Dermalogica for years as they are very gentle on my skin and I have never had any bad reactions to them. However I do need a regime and I lack that with Dermalogica. I need to find a regime/routine
I would be most grateful if you could assist with cleansing and moisturiser regime that would suit me. Please also recommend eye cream, night cream oils and serums. I am so grateful if you could help me.
    Kind Regards

i was just wondering about a regime as opposed to a routine. I’m 39 and have always looked after my skin and its generally fine. the problem i have is that I tend to buy box sets and want to use them as soon as they arrive. i love Philosophy, Decleor, Gatineau and Elemis.
I notice that you advise this lady to use products from different ranges. is it OK to mix things up then? I’m using the latest Gatineau Melatoganine TSV, love it, especiall the face wash. but is it ok to still use my Philosophy Microdermabrasion kit etc. will it undo the good of using Gatineau?

    Hi Alison
I’ve just bought the Ultrasun TSV and can’t wait to start using it but I don’t know when the best time is to apply the SPF. Do I use it after I’ve cleansed and toned, after moisturising, before/after make-up?

‘m glad to know I’m not alone here… Throughout my life (even my teenage years) I have always had a good complexion. I mean, here and there I’d get a little breakout, but nothing to write home about. For the most part, my adolescence was smooth sailing as far as my skin went…
I have talked about this with a few other women around my age (35-55) and we all came up with the idea that it may be a biological/hormonal change that occurs for women at this particular age. There also may be a stress factor as we have a lot more to worry about and be responsible for than we did back then.
For my 40th birthday, my mom bought me a bottle of Made from Earth’s Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum, and after a few weeks, people were commenting that I looked less tired. They even asked if I lost weight, been exercising or on vacation!
Since it works gradually over a few weeks, you notice a bit of difference yourself, but the people who don’t see you that often really notice a dramatic change. Smaller wrinkles are smoothed out and disappear completely, while large ones get smaller.

    Morning Alison
I watched the Daniel Sandler show and tried to take on board the instructions on the two products I bought. I think I’ve got it right! but, the advice slip with the product ‘Lip Smoother’ can’t decide if it’s to be used around the lips; after lipstick/lip balm or before like lip liner. I’ve never been one for make-up until I began watching QVC Beauty. The other query is the DS Face Primer can I use it after my moisturiser? as the only other make-up I use is mascara.
I began using Gatineau three years + ago and I must say the products I’ve purchased over the period have been many, but all used to their full capacity; from, exfoliating, cleansing, with a morning and a night regime, I use Defilift morning and Melatogenine at night and to the envy of friends and family I’m told I have the complextion of a 50yr old; I’m 67.
Like the other Alison, I too had Cancer in 2009 and went on to have it twice more. I’m through it, in remission and doing great; thanks to the wonderful progress in medicine and the staff trained to deal with it. But, continuing to take a pride in my
appearance after losing my hair, eyelashes and eybrows was down to
watching and listening to your advice on the products I use every day, became very important to me. So thank you Alison, QVC and Gatineau for keeping me feeling and looking good with myself.
