On a complete beauty routine for mature skin…

Liz Earle Cleanse, Polish and Tonic Set

Q: I'm 58 and my face has the lot! Lines and wrinkles, sagging, dull skin, dark circles, and crepiness - sound beautiful? NOT! I'm going back to the cold cream days now, that's when I was a teenager! Since then I've not had any spare cash to indulge myself, as the children's needs had to come first. I'm a complete novice and would appreciate any advice.
I lost my mother in 2000 and lost all interest in myself totally, thankfully this year I've finally come through the darkness and would love to look better, but I do need a step by step routine. I have dry skin with a greasy T-zone.

Alison: This is a common problem - where people have tried skincare when they were younger and it didn't work. And where there wasn't much choice, other than cold cream which would have brought you out in spots as it's really heavy and wouldn't have been suitable for you at that age.

I understand that you have put your family first and then suddenly when you look in the mirror, you feel like you should be looking a lot younger. This is often found by women in their 50s and 60s, where the reflections in the mirror seem to be of an older version of you.

I want to give you a very simple routine that's quick, easy and enjoyable. All you need to do is get yourself into the routine of following it every single morning and every single night.

I recommend you use Liz Earle, because the products smell gorgeous, they have lovely luxurious textures and are enriched with natural ingredients. Your skin at the moment is craving moisture, which a lack of a proper routine and the ageing process has prevented it from having.

Start with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, followed by Liz Earle Instant Skin Boost Tonic (these come in a great-value duo set), Superskin Concentrate and then Superskin Moisturiser on top. You can use the Superskin Moisturiser on the face, neck and around the eyes.

Follow these four steps morning and night to improve the condition of your skin and to keep it feeling comfortable and well hydrated. If you want to go further, I can suggest more products for you.

i agree alison the liz earle is good, however when i started using it it made my skin worse and brought me out in spot breakouts, which from reading other peoples comments, this has happened to quite a few people so it is very much a perseverance product, not always getting such good results as other makes.

I’m 56 yrs of age and have found Liz Earle products quick to use, smell devine, worked wonders on my dull skin & the prices are fabulous for the benefits to your skin. Would not change my cleanse & polish & skin tonic for any other brand. Sorry the lady who’s skin got worse, maybe she bought the wrong type for her skin & ahlould have had the dry/sensitive one?

Since becoming an avid watcher (and customer) of all the beauty programmes on QVC my skin, hair and general all over appearance have improved to the extent that people do a double take head swivel when I tell them I am 62 years of age. Not only do I look outwardly young, I feel so positive on the inside about myself. The only let down are my eybrows. There is not enough information about eyebrows and yet they are so important. Mine have become grey, thin, and their shape has changed pulling my face down in an anti-gravity direction – what can I do?!

    Hello Allison
I am 60 and started to get a red line in the crease of my mouth, you know where it tends to sag with age.. not nice!.. toothpaste irritates it.. and I have to be careful what I use..Ive never had this before, my skin is dry and I use cleanse and polish for cleaning my face and Liz Earle skin repair moisturiser for dry sensitive skin. I have been using tinted spackle, wondering if this has irritated my skin? I dab t.tree oil on the corner of my mouth and downward line twice a day.. this helps but as I still work, I need to look presentable and have to have some form of make up on, I am using bare essentials at the moment. I leave my skin make up free at weekends and use the t.tree oil, Can you advise anything else Alison please apart from a face lift for saggy drooping mouth..( and I used to be so pretty)

    Hi Alison
I would really love your help. Just turned 49, have used Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish for 10+ years. I’ve recently noticed my skin feels red and very sensitive after using it. I’ve just found out the formula has changed, now I’m scared to use it. My fine lines around my eyes are greater and my eyes are more puffy. I’ve ordered the Decleor Cleansing Wash, as it removes eye makeup too and looks good for sensitive skin. Do you think I’ve ordered the right thing? Daren’t use Liz Earle again. Thanks you.

Hi Alison, Iam 47 work full time and teach High Energy Aerobics, Body Conditioning and Steps with very dry, sensitive, fair skin. Iam very busy and have a hard life style. Iam still getting spots on my chin (Painful), and I have a greasey forehead. Iam using Gatineau cleanser and toner and I just love it, but what else will help me. It may be hormonal but it is getting me down. I thought this will stop at my age. I have used most of the products on qvc but may not have got the right combination to suit my skin.

    Dear Alison
I would be grateful for some advice about Judith Williams’s products. I have problem skin that I keep under control with nightly benzyl peroxide and Retin A. This, of course, leads to dryness, but I have found the Judith Williams Phytomineral cream to be a very good moisturiser. To counteract simultaneous signs of ageing, I’m thinking of moving on to the Life Long products by Judith Williams when my Phytomineral cream runs out, but fear this line won’t be compatible with my cystic acne-prone skin. Would it be possible for you to advise? Many thanks

    Hi Alison,
I am 58 and I have small lines around my uper and lower lip and no matter which cream I use they dont seem to be diminishing at all, is there a cream I could use to help this problem, also I have a few necklaces on my neck and it is also very creapy, I know this all comes with age but is there anything at all I could be doing to help these problems? Many thanks

    HI Alison
I wonder if you have heard on The cream Athena ans Life Cell.
If you go onto their website they claim that these are miracle creams.
All my life I have tried brand after brand but reaching 58 it is time for a cream that will reduce fine lines around my eyes and lips.
    Please advise
    MAny Thanks

I turned 50 this year. I have normal/oily skin. I use a good moisturiser day and night. I would like to know how do you use serum is it before you moisturise or after you moisturise. A bit confused when its best to put it on.
    Thanks Ali

    Hi Alison,
I’m 54 and have very dry, fragile skin. Have looked after it religiously for years so it’s not too bad. I have always spent money on Gatineau, Decleor etc. but need to economise. What day and night moisturisers/treatments can you recommend in the under £50 ranges.

    Dear Alison,
Recently, I have bought the Alpha-H clear skin set for my son. He is 22 and has been suffering from acne and scarring for a long time. The set has helped and now I am looking to buy the full sizes. However, the set comprises a cleanser, a moisturiser gel and an anti-blemish gel. I have ordered the anti-blemish gel but I cannot find the other two products in the QVC site. Any suggestions?
Also, would he benefit from using the Liquid Gold?
Thank you in anticipation for your help.

Hi Alison, I have just found out the redness I get on my face is rosacea and it is also affecting my eyes, I have to clean eyes with baby shampoo and then apply viscotears twice daily or more if required, the doctor wasn’t very helpful about my face which is affected by heat even being too warm in bed can cause it to flush up, so on reading qvc product types I sent for and am using Alpha H balancing cleanser and moisturiser, I would like advice on which sunscreen to use as I have both alpha H 50 and ultrasun 30 for face and neither prevented my red face when on holiday in February, pre diagnosis of rosacea, any help would be great, also I have stopped wearing make up at present and have disposed of all eye make-up until eyes are better, thank you
