November’s beauty pick – bareMinerals Original Foundation

BareMinerals Deluxe Original SPF 15 Foundation - 203055It's really exciting that for the first time ever we have a product of the month with the iconic original loose bareMinerals Foundation. This, for me, is the cult mineral foundation that started the mineral revolution nearly four decades ago.

What is clever about this product is not just the way that the pure pigments and minerals are blended, but that they leave out so many possible allergens and sensitisers.

This is the only cover-up product that can normally be safely used on irritated, spotty, acne, vulgaris or rosacea skin. It’s my top recommendation if anyone has any skin allergies or sensitivity – this should be your first port of call for skin cover and skin confidence.

It can be used in so many different ways. Classically buffed onto the skin – the more you buff and it warms onto the skin, the more it mixes with your natural oils and gives a creamy, smooth finish. For fuller coverage, buff for longer or apply another layer.

One of my favourite tricks for long wear make-up that doesn’t budge is to layer up different textures so try using with a tinted moisturiser or foundation underneath and buff the bareMineral Foundation over the top. This will give a high performance, long wear, full coverage finish that still looks incredibly natural.

Troubleshooting
Remember, this foundation like any other, will show up mistakes in your skincare routine so if you find your skin is too oily, use a mattifying primer and/or look at your regime for oil calming products. If you find this foundation makes your skin look dry, look at your skin regime for more moisturising oils and serums and a richer, more luxurious cream used underneath. If you find this foundation shows up the look of your pores, or you look more lined, use a primer underneath. This will give a smoother finish.

This foundation does and will work on every skin type and skin shade, and if you are new to it, it's just a matter of practice makes perfect. Get into the habit of leaving this lovely large pot, which will last you the whole of winter, with its brush, next to the mirror. This way you can sit down and apply anything from a quick, light coat to a full coverage, formal party base that looks believable and feels comfortable, giving you the fashion finish that you want and is importantly, kind to your skin.

It would not surprise me, after using this for a short while, that you will start to notice your skin looking better without even changing your skincare regime and that is because these minerals, when used in skincare have high performance benefits.

Top tip: When you are buffing, If the brush feels spikey and/or you are getting red marks, it means you’ve left it way too long to wash your brush. Try getting into the habit of washing your brush at least once a week in your shampoo and leaving out to dry naturally overnight or in the airing cupboard.

One last piece of advice: – this is healthy make-up to start teenagers off with as it does the job of confidence giving cover without blocking pores and causing sensitivity. It also works well as a male make-up because the buffing action makes it easier to get a more skin-like, realistically smooth finish that doesn’t look obviously made up. Re-invent yourself today, not with new eye shadows or lipsticks but with a better looking skin finish.

Hi Alison, I’m looking for a foundation that does not irritate my skin and is a great colour match. I have rosacea and post menopausal since 33, I’m 45 now. I use liz Earle cleanse and polish and toner daily. Moisturiser is liz earle dry/sensitive or decleor hydra floral or new prolagene cream. No problems there. The bare minerals foundation in fair is a beautiful tone and I want it to work for me however my cheeks burn after a few hours and I have to wash it off. I thought it was the brush so took a few weeks to calm my skin down and then restarted the bare minerals using my new Laura Geller kabuki brush. My skin reacted after 4 hours. the Laura Geller baked foundation in porcelain doesn’t irritate but unfortunately the tone is not as good as the bare minerals. Please may you advise? Thank you.

I can see that two ladies have already commented on the lack of darker shades for the Bare Minerals – Beauty Pick of the Month. Lucky ladies who wear Golden Dark may have another opportunity to buy as it appears to be in stock once more. However there has been no explanation on air as to why there is a limited about of shades, in comparison to the usual stock. I feel disappointed that QVC and Bare Minerals have let down a large amount of customers in this way. Surely QVC buyers and Bare Minerals could have come to an agreement for an advance stock order if they were unable to fulfil order requirements in time for November. This is the second time now that ‘Medium Dark’ foundation shade has lost out on being able to buy in a larger size. The ‘try me’ collection for this year also sold out extremely quickly. These sales must proved the popularity of the shade with QVC customers.

Hi Alison, I have been wearing bare Minerals foundation for just under a year in the Tan shade, I recently went into boots (which sold the bare minerals range)and the make up advisor said that Tan was way too dark for me and adivse me to go for Golden Medium, I would like to get the beauty pick of the month but would like your advice as to which shade, they haven’t got Golden Medium but which ever shade you think is the nearest. Bare Minerals doesn’t have to be an exact match that’s the beauty of it, you can mix shades together. Thanks

Can you please stock bare minerals foundation in fairly medium, this is the shade that suits me the best. I would order this shade off you if you stocked it.
