No breakfast in bed for me this Valentine’s Day!

Beauty Day logo So, it's Valentine's Day on Sunday and you probably have something romantic planned? And me? Well my day will be starting at 5.30am as I'm on QVC at 9am! This was a slight error on my part – I was asked to do the launch of Beauty Day, so of course I was thinking the usual launch time of midnight. However, due to a bit of a mix up with the buyers, it actually turns out that their 'launch' is in fact 9am – crossed wires all round I think it's safe to say!

Actually, I don't really mind as I love the show line-up I have, Laura Geller, L'Occitane and Elemis, and because I'll be finished by 1pm, I can go and watch Crystal Palace take on Aston Villa in the fifth round of the FA Cup and still go out to dinner… if I'm still awake that is!!!

It's the second time I've been able to watch footie on Valentine's Day. Last time was in 2005 and we were thrashed by Arsenal 5 – 1 at Highbury; thanks to Andy Johnson (now at Fulham) it wasn't a total whitewash, but it wasn't far off! I hope my watching them on Valentine's Day isn't a bad omen as we could do with a decent cup run.

As well as being Valentine's Day, it's also the start of the Chinese New Year. We're saying goodbye to the Year of the Ox and entering the Year of the Tiger, thank goodness. Mind you, according to my Chinese astrology book, it's still not the best of times for the monkey person, ie ME! My book recommends keeping a low profile, but I'm not sure that's in my nature!

There are 12 animals in the Chinese horoscope and also five elements – Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. So each animal sign also has an element, meaning there's a 60 year cycle rather than just the 12 year cycle we tend to think of.

I'm a Fire Monkey (a quick trip to the internet will now tell you which year I was born!), but my Dad, born in 1920, was a Metal Monkey. My partner Chris is a Wood Horse, daughter Sophie is a Fire Rabbit and both my son Daniel and my Mum are Fire Tigers as they were born 60 years apart. As you can see, there's a lot of 'fire' in my family… that explains a lot!

2010 is a Metal Tiger year and is being called the Year of the Golden Tiger – I hope it brings you good fortune.

Speak soon,
Julia. xx.

    Hi Julia,
Poor you, fancy having to get up that early on Valentine’s Day morning. It will stil be dark wont it?! Still at least you will be finished fairly early so your whole day wont be completely spoilt, well as long as Aston Villa play along – or dont play preferably! Being an Arsenal fan I actually went to that Arsenal-Palace game back in 2005 although I didn’t spot you in the crowd..! You’re right though, it was a bit one sided wasn’t it. I seem to remember the words ‘Valentine’s Day Massacre’ being bandied about at the time, which I thought was a bit harsh. But then we had just won 5-1 eh!
Oh and I must confess, I have ‘googled’ Fire Monkey and I would never have guessed that you were that old, you look far younger! I remember you being in the Citizen Smith Christmas special ‘Buon Natale’ getting ice cream thrown at you and rescuing Ken from the sea, and you haven’t changed a bit! Must be all the QVC products – only kidding!
Anyway have a great Valentine’s and keep the great shows coming!
    Love Nick

    Hi Julia
I totally agree with Nick. I just caught you on a show just now and you look absolutely fabulous. The envy of many a younger woman I would say.
I also hope you don’t get bombarded with cards on Sunday!
Hope you enjoy the football and that Palace get a good result. I’m sure you are not a curse despite the last result! I am at Ibrox on Sunday but will keep an eye out for Palace. Not a big fan of Villa. Too many Celtic connections(seltic not keltic lol) so fingers crossed even more than usual for your team.
Have a great weekend and fab Valentines day even although your working!
    Steven xx

    Hi Julia
Nice to have you back, Just seen you on QVC, mind you from the time I came back from Egypt I did not have much time to watch QVC, but had a look on the net and still manage to oreder a few things.
Thank you so much for your wishes, Iam much better now, and I”ll come to London around Mid April ( God help me not to get ill again), as I can”t wait to meet you.
I got 4 good friends coming to dinner on Valentine day, but I”ll be watching QVC during the day as I need to stock up on my L”Occitane. I do hope Crystal Palace win on Sunday.
I”am a Fire Monkey like you, and It has not been a good time for me for a while, I”ll try to keep a low profile, but you know how hard that is.
Great to be talking to you again, lots of love, and have a fab Valentine day.

    Hi Julia
Hope that your Valentine’s day is full of lots of love and treats?
I just had to tell you my story of the events of today. We are intending on going out tonight for a lovely romantic meal, however my Fiance’s team have played in a local derby for the FA cup. His team of choice, Portsmouth! Enough said! A must win game not only for his team but also for my sanity and a stressfree evening. I am sooooo glad that they have won! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for Crystal Palace tomorrow, not only for your happiness but also your partner Chris!
Have a wonderful TSV with L’Occitane, haven’t tried this beauty range but the handcream selection is likely to be next one my list of purchases.

Your team did you proud – especially as you said that they hadn’t got a prayer!!
    Good luck for the replay.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Beauty day – although perhaps the timing was a bit off for me as I was sorting all my bathroom cabinets and my husband heard me say I musn’t buy any more stuff. I did however sneak a few products as despite my huge stocks I was running out of a few things – well thats my story anyway.
Hope you have a lovely meal this evening.

    Hello Nick
Yes it was still dark when I got out of bed yesterday, but actually I had a really lovely day. Not only did I have three enjoyable beauty shows, but Keeley brought her gorgeous baby to QVC and they had lunch with us and THEN my team were INSPIRED against Aston Villa!!! What a shame the ref and the lino hadn’t ‘been to specsavers’! At least we’re still in with a chance although it will be much tougher at Villa Park.
Do you remember what the Palace fans were chanting as each goal went in at Highbury?? 2 – 1 we’re gonna win 2 – 1, 3 -2 we’re gonna win 3 – 2, 4 -3 etc. You’ve got to admire our spirit.
Thanks for all the lovely compliments, and very impressed you know what the Citizen Smith episode was called …… I didn’t!
Hope you had a happy Valentine Day

    Hi Steven
You and Nick are spoiling me with all the lovely compliments! Much appreciated. I wasn’t exactly snowed under with Valentine’s mail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you see any of THE game? I was so proud of my team – but for the officials we might actually have pulled off the result of the round – I think we deserved it, such passion and team spirit. Did Rangers get a result against Hibs?

    Hi Magda
So pleased to hear you are feeling much better – hope you enjoyed Valentines Day/Beauty Day/ Chinese New Year. Shame Palace couldn’t manage to hold on to their lead but heh, at least we get another bite at the cherry.
Here’s hoping the Year of the Golden Tiger will be better for us Fire Monkeys, particularly healthwise for you.
    much love

    Hi Gem
Hope you had a lovely romantic evening after Pompey’s great win on Saturday – they are in almost as much financial trouble as Palace! Unfortunately we couldn’t quite replicate the result against Villa but I was so proud of the boys, they really gave their all. Still in with a shout, but it will be much harder at Villa Park. Chris said thanks for empathising with him!
Did you get your L’Occitane handcream selection ….. it sold out so quickly.
Good luck to Portsmouth in the quarter finals and hope we can join them there

    Hello Kelly
Thanks for the compliment. I thought red was appropriate for Valentine’s Day. The dress is a Tiana B – not sure if we still do that style, but watch out for their TSV on March 12th

Keep everything crossed for us for the replay at Villa Park – another performance like yesterday and they are in with a chance.

Hi Julia, i agree wholeheartedly with the other viewers you do look fab and i’m a firm believer that what you are on the inside shines through to the outside so you must be a very beautiful lady in and out!
Now enough of the flattery, lol, i have noticed that on the 5th March there appears to be a very special day beginning at midnight involving Aeropilates. Having finally made the decision to buy a machine i decided to check out the programme guide to see if there were any shows scheduled to help me make my decision as to which machine to buy. What i was wondering is will it be a new machine or the one that is already on the website and more importantly is there any chance it might be on easy pay?. Don’t know if you’ll be allowed to say or not but easy pay would definately make it easier on the pocket!!!!
Hope to catch you on one of these shows as you’re an inspiration to us more mature ladies!
    Love Lucie xxx

    Hello Steven
Well unfortunately we lost the replay – I think Matt Lawrence played quite a large part in that giving away not 1 but 2 penalties!! Oh well, perhaps it is better that we concentrate on staying in the Championship. Looks like we are now set to lose our manager to QPR, though why he would want to go there I don’t know – they stand more chance of being relegated than we do!
I watched a bit of the old firm game today – you guys were very lucky to win right at the end ………. when you have the rub of the green ……………! Does that mean Celtic can’t catch you now??

    Hello Lucie
What a truly lovely thing to say – thankyou! Now about the pilates. The TSV on 5th March is not one of the usual machines, it fits onto the back of a door so it’s very different. It’s about £35 I think and would be ideal if someone is very short of space or to take away with you if you were travelling.
The aeropilates machine with the jumpboard is fantastic – good for cardio without impact and you can do all the normal assisted pilates moves. I am on with Marjolein at 6p.m. so if you haven’t made your decision by then come through on air and get some advice from her.
Sorry I don’t know about the easypay …….. they don’t even tell us!
    much love
    Julia x
