New cook’s essentials food range reviews!

Cook's essentials 8 piece Store Cupboard EssentialsTo celebrate the launch of the exciting new cook's essentials food range we gave you the chance to sample and review some of the tasty new products! Congratulations Victoria Binch, Jane Duff, Bridget Lobley, Matthew Perry, Naseem Richards and Doreen McCormack who were all randomly selected to be our food critics.

Our six lucky reviewers have all been busy trying out a selection of the new sauces, dips, chutneys and marinades so that we can give you their top tips and suggestions when using the range.

The verdicts are in so let's see what they all thought of the range…

Gourmet Tomato Sauce

Doreen: "A giant step above the usual well-known brand we use – everyone preferred this one."

Victoria: "There is a sweetness from the tomatoes with a contasting sharpness from the vinegar. The spices add a warmth to the flavour and is truly a luxurious version of a favourite store cupboard staple."

Naseem: "A taste of tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce. It has got depth and texture and it was a hit with us."

Jane: "Rich, intense flavour. I would consider buying this depending on the price."

Bridget: "Absolutely the thing to use on a bacon sarnie."

Cook's essentials 6 piece Marinades & PastesBasil Jam

Bridget: "My least favourite simply because I do not like basil. However my daughter-in-law liked it spread thinly on a ham sandwich."

Naseem: Delicious! Great on cheese biscuits. Would be great as an after dinner course and also on a ploughman's. It wasn't too sweet which is a plus. I don't believe it would be suitable in a stir fry."

Victoria: "This is sweet by itself but I tried it as an accompaniment with a vegetable lasagne and cheese. It complemented both of these as the cheese cut through the sweetness, definitely to be used with a very savoury dish."

Jane: "My first thoughts were that this might be too strong – not at all. I have had it with pork burgers as a side complement and also with cold meats and jacket potatoes. Really liked the subtle flavour and would buy again."

Doreen: "Firstly deliciously sweet then a real kick of chilli – again everyone rated it 4.5 to 5. except the 5 yr old in my family – too hot for him!!"

Cook's essentials 4 piece Sweet & Savoury Dipping SelectionButter Toffee Dipping Sauce

Victoria: "This was my favourite. Smooth, silky texture and a creamy rich taste. You don't need a lot of this to experience the flavour but it is difficult to stop eating!"

Doreen: "We all thought our little one would love this – but in fact he was the only one who thought it was too sweet! The adults all had it over garde- picked pears poached in sugar syrup and flavoured with ginger, and vanilla ice-cream and we all loved it."

Bridget: "My favourite product  – gorgeous! I had mine with Easiyo unsweetened Greek yogurt with banana and also drizzled onto rice pud."

Jane: "Have tried a little of this with banana but found it to be too sweet for my liking."

Naseem: "Tastes like toffee fudge. We tried it with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of Baileys. That was absolutely fabulous."

Matthew: "The toffee sauce is fantastic! I had it with homemade apple cake and it tasted like toffee apples."

Beef and Red Wine Gravy

Naseem :"It's something for an emergency store cupboard. My homemade one beats this hands down I'm afraid."

Cook's essentials 5 piece Oils, Vinegars & GlazesJane: "Very tasty, quite rich but good for a special occassion dish. I used it for a beef casserole and added more tomatoes and onions together with the meat and mushrooms I would normally use."

Bridget: "Use to make a simple beef bourguignon."

Korma Curry Paste

Victoria: "This paste released fragrant spices when cooking, added a lightly spiced flavour to the chicken and produced a moist curry dish. This would also be ideal as a glaze for a chicken kebab on a barbeque or under the grill."

Naseem: "This curry paste is a good mix for a speedy curry and is good for people who haven't got much time but it's not a true authentic Korma paste."

Doreen: "Made a delicious King Prawn curry – as good as any Indian take-away and believe me we have lots of those!!"

Caramelised Onion Chutney

Doreen: "This is my fave product and I always have onion chutney in my cupboard – this was really delicious but obviously it's going to be much more expensive than any of the current available similar products becaust of the post and packing. If only you could get this on Tesco shelves then I'd definitely choose this one!!"

Victoria: "Sweet onions, smooth texture, no strong aftertaste and went well with ham and cheese. Ideal as a Christmas time relish."

Naseem: "Wonderful Autumnal flavour! I love it! Would be great with cheese pizzas, quiches and cheese toasts. This would make sandwiches a gourmet fare…makes one's mouth water."

Bridget: "Top tip – add the caramelised onions to a plain gravy to liven it up."

Cherry Tomato Chutney with Chilli

Doreen: "Fantastic with a really mature cheese – I wouldn't recommend it with a soft brie type cheese"

We were given the chilli and balsamic glaze and the roasted garlic dressing for Christmas. I can rate them highly enough, they are fabulous!! I have been recommending them to everyone, you must try these.
