Never had a bad hair day!

I get so many emails and questions on what keeps my hair so glossy, shiny and healthy-looking.

As many of you know, I am very fussy with the products that I or stylists use on my hair. The reason being is that my hair looks easy to stylle but in fact it can go so wrong with the wrong products and styling tools so very quickly.

Many a time stylists have done my hair and it just turns into one big frizz or a messy, unkept look.
In fact, my routine is very easy and I am able to create the look you all ask about in just 15 minutes. You know me – a true convenience girl!

I have to confess that I really do look after my hair using the right treatments, the right styling products and the right tools to create the healthy smooth natural style.

I do confess to washing my hair four times a week when I am on air, as my hair is so fine that a second hair day for me just doesn't work whatever I try, so I stick to my simple quick routine. On my days off I will either treat my hair or I will leave it and slick it back to give it a rest.

Here are my tried and tested favourites that I cannot be without in my hair ritual:

HER Haicare Rituals four-piece Nourishing Discovery CollectionMy hair adores Her Shampoo and Conditioner by John Barrowman for volume. When John introduced me to his brand, it was honestly like, "where have these products been all my life?" I had spend years looking for a great haircare brand for fine hair that needed chic volume, not a matted mass that left the hair a frizzy mess. These products have a beautiful texture and the results are fantastic. This great discovery collection also includes the Her Revive and Protect Mist, which my hair adores. I use this after towel-drying my hair. Be sparing as it's quite concentrated and a little goes a long way.

Tangle TeezerI use two spritzes on the mid-length and two concentrating on the ends. I then comb through with my Tangle Teezer.Thank you Sean Pulfrey, you are a genius in creating the Tangle Teezer!

I finish with Her Nourishing Oil from mid-length to ends (one and half drops) and repeat with the Tangle Teezer to ensure it is distributed evenly (avoiding the roots and fringe). To blow dry my hair I love the Ego Professional hair dryer – it's gentle on my hair and doesn't burn, as creating a smooth look when blow-drying you need to keep the heat quite close to the hair shaft. Plus, it cuts down the drying time whilst being kind to my hair.

Richard Ward Couture Hair three-piece Angel CollectionI have just discovered Richard Ward's boar bristle brush –  it's the best brush I have used to date to create my sleek smooth glossy look.

On occasions, I will use the Ego straighteners – with all these great hair products, I use the straighteners less and less but will sometimes just glide them over the top layer to smooth the few stray hairs.

Philip Kingsley Treatment ElasticizerPhilip Kingsley Daily Damage Defence Duo

My hair saviours are the Her Trecento treatment (see the above Her collection) and my Phillip Kingsley Elasticiser.  I alternate with these two treatments every third day. My hair really notices a difference when I miss one out! The Philip Kingsley Daily Damage Defence is fantastic for keeping my hair healthy too. It allows it to stay at the length and I love the fact that it's an elastisicer in a bottle.

Her volumising powderWhen I want to add serious volume that holds with no stress, I use the incredible Her Volumising Powder. I carry this powder in my handbag and on my travels, as well as keep stocked up in my dressing room. It's instant and it's GENIUS.

ColorWOW three-piece Root Cover Up CollectionI have my colour done at Aveda and use Color WOW to keep the colour from fading and the medium colour root cover-up extends my visit to the salon.
I also have to thank my brilliant hairdresser who blunt cuts my hair so my crowning glory looks even thicker and healthier.

Here's to no more bad hair days!

    Hi Jill,
You have got beautiful hair – like others the shine stands out. I’ve got very fine hair too but it’s short. Not completely out of choice but short hair seems to suit me and now in my mid-40s, my hair is thinning so short and wavy is best!
In another life, if I had one, I’d return with long hair and skins that tans – however I know these are only superficial things of course.
I’m glad I made you smile in my last reply – I did a doubletake when I saw you on in the morning one day and Jackie put on her tweet to the effect you were both having a great time as you’re not a morning person!
You take care and keep doing as you’re doing,
    Lots of love,
    Beth XXXX.

    Hi Jill,
I too have fine hair. I used to have a lot of it but since the menopause I am finding I have much less hair! I turned 60 last year
(yeah, sounds old & like I’m talking about someone else), but the likes of Lulu, Joanna Lumley, Joan Collins etc. are my role models.
I intend to try the John Barrowman products, (if his product is half as gorgeous as he is, well…), also the Phillip Kingsley you have recommended. Your hair always looks great Jill, even after the stressful times you have encountered of late. So, must get off to place my orders. Let’s see how it goes!
    Love to you as always,
    Linda. xxx
