Nature and/or nurture…

Pipa with her mumWell, it's been a good five months since we moved in to our new home in Chiswick Park so this weekend I brought the children up for a visit.

Both of them are budding writers and last time my daughter came up with me, she was entertained back stage by the gang and ended up photocopying a book she had written and SOLD copies to any unsuspecting guests and crew who were ready to part with 50p whilst I was on air!

It earned her enough to buy her first hamster which quite honestly I thought was rather resourceful!

So, when hearing that Lenny Feinberg was back in town this weekend, (he bought TWO copies of the first book), she daren't miss the opportunity to bring along one of her more recent stories and do the same again!

Pipa's mum on her wedding daySo my daughter and I share a passion for writing (I've written for years, anything from song lyrics, to many unfinished books, radio shows, plus my online magazine)… whilst my mum and I share a passion for fashion.

She was a dress-maker many years ago and made every dress I ever owned until I was old enough and individual enough to want to buy my own and follow more of the high street trends. She made the dresses in these pics – one with me in the late 70s and her wedding dress in the 60s!

Now I realise how lucky I was and value her input greatly from those years ago… but also, I can treat her back in return. In fact, Our Beauty Pick of the Month from L'Artisan Parfumeur is perfect because I wear the Nuit De Tubereuse Eau de Parfum which really has become my signature scent this last year as it seems to just feel like me, (boy don't we all know how hard it is to find that usually in a fragrance!!) and my Mum now wears the La Chasse Aux Papillions Eau de Parfum which encapsulates the feminine, sophisticated and gentle woman that she is!

The perfume duo is like seeing two sides of one woman, or perhaps two generations in one box… so I suppose it all comes full circle in the end! Nature, nurture… now there's a good discussion!

I thought that pic was you in the wedding dress Pippa – so like your mum. What a clever lady she is to make that dress.
    Love Denise

Hi ladies, I know, we are soooo alike!! Sadly she had a stroke when she was 48 which left her paralysed down one side so she doesn’t get to do a fraction of the things she used to do which is so frustrating. She’s still wonderful though ….that was me standing next to my baby brother at his christening in the first photo…. I love looking through old pics. She made the dress I am wearing there too, as well as her black and white one ….she was so gifted! Shame I’ve not inherited the ability to make clothes like she did ….although I’m not done yet so anything could happen I guess!!!!
