My pendant, now in Diamonique!

The girlsHello there!

I thought I’d start where I left off last time, and let you know that, having spent far more time than I would choose to in hospital over the last week or so, my tests have come back clear, so mercifully no more scans until next Spring!

Without going into too much detail, what began as standard biopsies of the tissue removed in the reconstruction have since led to an endoscopy, colonoscopy and ovarian scan! I almost glow when the lights are off :)

I think with a couple of these procedures it’s best not to ask too much beforehand. I knew cameras were involved, and just hoped they were a great deal smaller than those I normally talk to you through!!

They were of course, and although the photographs taken were not ones I’ll be framing and setting on the mantlepiece, they confirmed in rather distinct detail that my insides were healthy, which was all I was worried about :)

Sunset at SandbanksThank you so much for all your kind comments and your concern – you really are the best :)  So, feeling a great deal better than I have done in ages, I was back at Chiswick Park earlier in the week getting ready for this Sunday’s Diamonique Show at 9pm when I'll have something VERY special for you…I’ll explain more later :)

Photographs of a very different kind were taken last week as Colin and I watched the sun set after a particularly hot and sunny day in Dorset. Taking on board your suggestions, we had got up early armed with a small overnight bag and headed for the South Coast. We arrived at this beach around 9.30am and stayed there until 8pm!

Sand sofaI kept my corset on for a little while and then decided that if I laid absolutely still I should be OK without it. My tummy still looks like a ploughed field so I had my cossie on but the warmth of the sun was wonderful on my limbs and I rested while Colin built this sand sofa (left) - on a par with DFS’ finest I felt!

We stayed for a couple of nights (in a B&B, not on the sofa!) and enjoyed the last of the really warm weather before heading home on Thursday evening.

Jack and IOf course the weather changed on Friday, and although it poured with rain until 3.30pm Jack and I (pictured left) had a lovely time looking around the Classic Car Collection at Salon Prive – an annual event held at Syon Park. I’ve not been able to go for the last two years, but this September I felt well enough, and we had a wonderful day catching up with Kathy Tayler, Debbie Greenwood and Debbie Flint too. You  may have seen the photo of the four of us on her blog – I have the one she took of the three of us (at the top of this post)!

And so last, but most definitely NOT least, the exciting news about my Diamonique show on Sunday night! You may remember me writing to tell you about my trip to Basel Jewellery Fair in Switzerland earlier this year. It was there I met up with our Diamonique buyer and together we chose some fabulous new designs to bring to you in this autumn’s collection.

Ali's pendant and her drawingOne of these was based on a white gold and diamond pendant that Colin had put under the tree for me, which is one of my favourite pieces of jewellery.

He chose it to match the fabulous diamond twist ring that he had given to me the year before, and it is set with the most dazzling collection of diamonds…

It is something I treasure, and so when I saw the pendant set with Diamonique stones I was absolutely blown away by the accuracy of the copy and the quality of the design.

It is just as beautiful as my own pendant (pictured left), and if you’d like to enter this simple competition, I have one to give away as a prize. Simples!!

Q. Which special occasion did Colin buy this pendant for?

A) Birthday
B) Anniversary
C) Christmas

Just write your answers at the bottom of this post before the end of Sunday 15th September Thursday 19th September (UPDATE: I've exteded this competition as the pendant was unfortunately not available on Sunday night!) and make sure to leave an email address in the Email box (this won't be made public but I'll need it to contact the winner) and a winner will be randomly selected in time for next week's blog (see the full terms and conditions).

Obviously there can only be one winner, but if this pretty, and particularly stylish design appeals to you, then join me on Sunday night at 9pm and you can order yours!

Well, I think that’s all the news for now, except to say that I finally braved the scissors and had my hair cut, coloured and styled! I hope that you like the results :)

Do keep in touch, and I will look forward very much to hearing all your news and collecting the answers to the competition, so that we will have a winner next week – Exciting!

With my love,
Ali x

Hello Ali, I have never written on a blog before but I do read your blogs just to make sure you are still healthy and happy as you always look. I must say you are very brave, you have certainly been through the mill and come out of it hopefully fighting fit (you certainly look it). I also think my sister is very brave, in March of this year she was told she had cancer in three places, on her liver, pancreas and hip. She has finished her chemo and we are keeping our fingers crossed when she has a scan in a couple of weeks to see how the chemo has faired. She calls her wig the hamster, and when she gets too hot she flings it off. She has always stayed positive and never complained. Anyway Ali, keep well and enjoy every day.
    With very Best wishes
    Susan Hall.

    My Dear Ali,
I wrote to you on your last blog and I just found your new blog. You are too quick for me! Thank you for spoiling us and for the happy photos:) So pleased you and Colin were able to get away for a few days. Sand sofa building is definitely to be added to Colin’s list of skills, what a man! I’m sorry about your poor tummy and hope that the discomfort is slowly easing for you. I’m glad you felt well enough to go to Salon Prive with Jack and able to catch up with Debbie and Kathy.
The positive news, no doctor has the autonomy to regard ME as a mental illness as the world health organisation has classified it as a neurological disorder. This means that they are all in breach of that mandate and it’s illegal. I think the only thing that would wake them up here is a class action lawsuit! The more I find out the worse the reality of it is. I’m lucky though Ali, to be able to do what I can when others don’t even have that option.
Love to Debz, Una, Magda, Sue, Elaine, Susan, Helen and all in Ali’s Army x
Mary, Jilly, Janet and Tricia, thinking of you all x
Ali, very much looking forward to seeing you on Sunday night and I will definitely be buying the beautiful pendant you designed.
    Take care
    Lots of Love, Alpa xxxx

    Dear Ali,
So glad to hear all your tests came back negative, who’d have thought your reconstruction would lead to so many others tests. Hope you are a lot more comfortable after your surgery and look forward to seeing you back on our screens this weekend you, have been much missed. So glad you and Colin had a lovely time in Dorset. We have just come back from Dubrovnik what a fabulous place. I would consider going to another part of Croatia some day. The weather was a bit too hot for me(fire extinguisher at the ready lol!!) but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment. On the last night we listened to some Mozart under the stars and the lady who played the clarinet piece was superb. A fabulous way to end our holiday.
Alfie will be seeing a specialist beginning of October to see if his eyesight is part of a bigger problem, so worrying times ahead and I pray my beautiful grandson will be healthy and well.
Take care Ali ‘see’ you soon love Janet xx
p.s love the photo of you and jack he looks so like you.

    Hi Ali,
Firstly, what a beautiful picture of you and ‘your girls’ at the top. Three beautys! I too think Colin’s sofa would rival DFS and the like as well! That car event sounds amazing that you were at as well and it sounds like a fun day was had by all. I’m hoping you have a lovely weekend and are looking forward to work on Sunday. That’s a lovely christmas pressie from Colin! Do you know where to get a man like that?! Hope your brood are ok and settling back into September patterns?

    Hi Ali,
Wonderful news – really really wonderful to find out your results came back clear!! I can imagine you went through the mill with all the tests etc, but it was very well worth it to receive such good news – I’m so so pleased for you Ali.
I’m glad you had time to take a short break before the weather changed. What a great idea Colin came up with – a sofa made of sand -, I will certainly try that one out myself next time I spend time on a beach (must remember to take a bucket and spade with me LOL).
Will be lovely to see the “new you” back on our screens – I’m wondering how short you’ve had your hair cut.
Best wishes to Alpa and Una, who I think of often. Alpa, I hope you’ll keep up your fighting spirit and soon find the answers you’re looking for – so frustrating for you. Also my good wishes to all those in Ali’s Army facing challenging and difficult times.
    Take care Ali,
    Love from Sue Radford xx

    Hi Ali,
I’m so glad you are doing well :)
I’m not sure if you remember me but we chatted a few times via e-mail as we had cats who looked identical! I sent you a pic of my cat Zac and you used his pic on one of your blogs which was a very proud moment for me!!
I spoke to you about my brain tumour, and we shared stories which is always good to hear that it’s not only you that’s feeling poorly continually!
I went into remission but Nov 2012 I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, I’m half way through my treatment and am doing well, as is Zac who is enjoying having his mummy to himself more and indulging in the extra treats he is knocking back!
I’ve still to get my wig, I’m just using little beanies and scarfs at the moment, whatever is comfortable I’m all for!!
Keep well Ali, Your my inspiration,

Great news that your tests came back all clear. If anyone should be healthy and happy it is you. All the best. So good too to hear from Alpa, she is always in my prayer, her and all the army, last Saturday at last got to see Liz in Mallorca and had a great lunch together, it has been over a year from the last time.
From 01st of October it is my turn for 4 hospital appointments and lots of tests, and by mid October the op to remove my gallbladder, also when I had the scan for that, the doctor seen something, he said needs more tests and endoscopy, so will keep you informed. My trip to London is now on hold till all this is finished, but still hope to come before the end of the year.
Look forward to your show on Sunday, QVC is not the same for me without you. Take good care.

Morning Alison. Great news to hear you are all clear I am delighted for you and your have battled this terrible disease with courage and dignity. Only a short blog from me I am afraid. My dear dad passes away peacefully, ironically on Friday 13th in the year 2013 in room 13 of our wonderful hospice in Margate. He had been in hospital just over a week and was moved there hours before he died. He let my mum say goodbye and leave before passing peacefully with his three daughters with him unable to fight pneumonia, emphacyma and the return of lung cancer. We were incredibly lucky to have him for as long as we did he was 83. We are now focusing on caring for mum and being strong for her.

    Hi Ali
Such brilliant news regarding your tests and it was great to see you back on air last night, radiant as ever and free of your pesky corset!!
Apologies for making you cry with my last entry on your earlier blog about my Mum…it would have been her 91st Birthday last Friday, 13th, a time for reflection and I always wake up saying “Happy Birthday”! It has been a funny, week or so, because I have also lost an Uncle on Mum’s side and an Auntie on Dad’s side.
To top it all we had Chris’ Grandad (93) round for tea yesterday…Chris went to collect him and arrived 4 hours and some 150 miles later, normally a 30 mile round trip! He couldn’t find him, the house was locked up, Chris phoned relatives and went round to their houses, because he thought he’d got the day wrong, then went back to his house and got the ladder up at the windows, thinking the worst. He then drove round places he knew his Grandad went, thought he spotted his car…by the time he drove back to his house, his Grandad was there sitting in the car! We tried phoning him that morning, but the phone was constantly engaged and because he hadn’t heard from us he thought Chris wasn’t picking him up, so he went out and we found out the phone wasn’t on the receiver properly…poor Chris was drained by the end of the night.
We’ve been glued to the TV watching the Tour de France, the Vuelta and now Tour of Britain cycling and can’t believe it’s in our neck of the woods on Wednesday, so hopefully we’re popping out to watch it live, so nice to see Wiggo back and Mark Cavendish is riding too, although they’ll probably be a blur as they whiz past…Chris said he’s going to run up the road in a ‘mankini’ like they do abroad and I said please don’t…thankfully he was joking and hasn’t got one, otherwise I’d disown him, there’s only so much a girl can take lol!
Really nice to see you back again and the pendant is lovely.

    Hi Ali
Great news on your test results – I am sooooo pleased for you. It was lovely to see you and Colin relaxing in the sunshine – I do like the sand sofa. The picture of you and Jack is lovely and it must have been nice for you to catch up. It will be lovely to see you back on our screens again as you have been missed. My family had a lovely weekend last week celebrating my grand daughters 7th birthday. She had a rock pool party with her little friends at our local lighthouse. The weather was perfect and all the children had a super time. After their buckets were full of goodies they went inside to see what they had caught. All sorts of crabs, fish, shrimps etc., The warden was super with them. Next came the party which everyone enjoyed. The next big event is the arrival of our new grandchild which is due Tuesday. We are all very excited! Take care and continue with your recovery. Hugs and thoughts

Dear Ali – my household is just more than delighted that you are all clear and everything is going in the right direction. What a worrying (again) time it all has been but to have this news is sunshine indeed. When you look at your blogs there is so much worry about our families or ourselves but we have each other to lean on. You look just brilliant (as usual) and super that you and Colin had some sunshine time. What a perfect way to finish off all these last weeks.
It just seems ages since we “saw” you so cannot wait for you to get back to “us”.
Lovely photo of Jack also – thanks for sharing these with all of us.
So sorry to hear Janet has these worries about little Alfie. Well they don’t go away do they? We will all say a little prayer that he is much better than can be hoped and he can get well and strong. I feel (as I have said before) when our families have health problems it is worse than if we have them. All we want to do is protect them.
Annie had her appointment on Friday and although it was not the breast pump up (as we had expected – that comes next) it was the result of the mammogram and that is all clear. She did ask who had checked it and had a strange look but said that she was told last year it was clear and look at her now – she was told both last year’s x-ray and this years were compared and no different. She was given a very good examination of all the chest, arm, neck and shoulder area so feels pleased with that. To go through this each year will be more than a little draining I can tell you – that is for me not so much for Annie!!!!
I think at the end of this week it will be the last chemo for Jan, Tricia’s daugher – hope all goes well and she is not too tired – you will be asking yourself where the weeks have gone and although there will have been ups and downs this is so good that it is nearly the end of this part of the treatment. Onwards and upwards is our motto!!
Take care and again so very delighted with your news Ali.
    Oh and answer -C.
    Love Jilly xx

Lovely to see you looking so well Ali, and thank God all your tests were negative. Caught you on tv Sunday before drifting into the land of nod. Someone on a previous Blog said you really know how to rally the troops and goodness you do. I couldn’t believe it when I went to write a comment and there were 133 comments!! Looks like we were down South about the same time. Didn’t we get the most gorgeous weather? Lucky us. I went to Monkey World whilst down there, 20 years since I last went and crikey hasn’t it grown. Love the thought of you and Colin sitting all day on the beach; me, I’m afraid am a figit a–e, can’t keep still for long. I can sit for a couple of hours on a beach and then I have to go for a walk or do something. It was very sad about the premature passing of Beulah and Amica; two beautiful ladies fondly remembered. My thoughts are with their family. Hope your family are okay Ali, especially Sam. Dare I ask after Debbie and Julian? People have a habit of disappearing on QVC. Hope they are okay xx. Ali, lovely to have you back on television and even better that you are keeping so well. Another obstacle done and dusted, for now. Lots of love to you, speak soon, love Gail xxxx

    My Dear Ali,
Thank you for making my Sunday, it was so good to see you back :) Your new cut and colour are fabulous and you look beautiful. Just trying to get on with things as best as I can. The letter to the registrar is done although I think I may need to tone it down as it was most scathing! I was not amused when I saw a report of a 24 hour video EEG on my file and told I didn’t need it, when it’s meant to be sent out anyway. So, a separate slightly less scathing letter to them on my follow up letters! Hope Colin, Lucy, Sam and Jack are all well.
Sue, thank you for your kind words. The fighting continues! x
Magda, it was so good to hear from you. So sorry you have more hospital appointments and tests coming up. Thank you for thinking of me. Sending you my love and thinking of you x

I am so glad that she has such a loving and supportive family and we are with you every step of the way. I’m sorry that your Mum has ME. Over the weekend I was told by a ‘friend’ to consider seeing a psychiatrist as it would be interesting to hear what they say. This from someone who knows the ‘treatment’ I was subjected to almost killed me, was too much. To make matters worse she said it wasn’t for ‘treatment’ Honestly, some of the things people come out with just get worse! At least we are able to share what we think here where there are friends who do care.

Bless you Alpa – I hope you found mine and several others’ responses to your comment? Yes, inspite of the rain, Jack, Kathy, Deb and Deb and I all enjoyed our day, as Colin and I did our few days on the South Coast. I don’t think things have worked out as well I had hoped, but at I least I tried. Will just go for the final phase of reconstruction rather than trying to improve upon it.. Feel guilty even talking about it, as I am still here , so should be grateful.. For you though Alpa, I am glad that you have the drive, determination and strength to continue your fight for support, and you know that we’re ALL here for you every step of the way. SO sorry that I wasn’t able to bring the pendant to you on Sunday.. it will now be presented on Diamonique Day – the 7th October! On a happier note, I am so glad that you enjoyed Croatia – my Jack was there earlier this summer, and like you he found the heat quite exhausting! Bit fed up after the surgery, but am hoping that possibly next lot of treatment will improve it..putting it off til after Christmas now… too much going on and don’t want to miss it! i too love the photo of Jack and me… it’s what makes me realise how lucky I am to be here :) Love to you Janet, Ali xx

Dear Linda,I am sorry that you are struggling with the pain, and hope that your recent visit to your specialist will have helped. Just to reiterate – apologies for not being able to bring the pendant to you on Sunday, but thank you for watching. It will now be with you on Diamonique Day, and I really do hope that if you don’t get lucky in the draw you will feel able to treat yourself :) They really have done a marvelous job with the pendant. Take care, and keep in touch, love Ali xx

My dear Mary…… I’ve started to write this many times, and keep getting it wrong.. I am so sorry that your dear dad lost his fight, and truly know how sad and difficult it will be for you, your sisters and your dear mum… 83 years old is a triumph, and I am so glad that you were able to share your lives for this many years. Please look after yourself, and lean on each other for strength… but hold fast to your memories – they will make you smile when times are hard. Sending you my love Mary, Ali xx

Jilly – YAY! so pleased that Annie’s mammogram has come back clear, and am relieved that she has another year before she has to go through it all again! I have to say that I am forever grateful for the constant care and concern I receive from my oncologist, but sometimes – and probably very ungratefully – I long to be of no interest to those in the medical profession! :) I too think you’re right, and that it is the last chemo for Jan, Tricia’s daughter – thinking of you and so pleased that this is now behind you – and as you Jilly say so positively – this is the end of this part of her treatment so onwards and upwards! You take care Jilly and love to both you and Annie – thanks for keeping in touch, love Ali xx

Ali, you and Sam would love Monkey World. They have made the
Monkey’s enclosures brilliant, fantastic even. They have Chimpanzees, Orang Utangs, Lemurs etc., but my favs were the Gibbons. They are amazing to watch when they are swinging through the trees with their wonderfully long arms. You must go, you’ll love it. There are lots of talks too which I found very interesting. It’s between Dorchester and Wareham; well worth a visit next time you’re down there. How could I forget to mention Colins ‘sand sofa'; brilliant idea, looks quite comfy too. So sorry that your op didn’t go as well as you hoped but, like you said, at least you tried. Hope the next op will be your last x. Didn’t realise it would be 10 years before you get a positive reading from the Hosp. It must be worrying for you; all I can say Ali is that ALL of us are only as good as we feel today so please don’t try and think too far ahead. Easier said than done eh. A wonderful line from gorgeous Claires blog was ‘wonderful to just ‘be’, which I think is a lovely
way to think. There really is something in the old saying ‘one day at a time’. I am also glad to hear that Sam
is getting along okay and his move near the river sounds very exciting. Lots of love, until next time love Gail xxxx

Hia Ali, so glad your back on our screens, its a joy to see you and I agree with all the other comments, you look lovely. Feeling a bit glum at the moment. My lovely girl has been poorly of late, bad tummy on and off for a year together with endless water infections. She’s off school and just finished her 3rd course of antibiotics for a UTI. I’m going out of my mind as every doctor I’ve seen has give difference advice. I have insisted and will see a paediatric urologist in – 3 MONTHS!!!! No chance of seeing one sooner, not even paying privately. Have insisted on an ultra sound scan so am waiting for that appointment to come through. Haven’t slept at all for days, sick with worry. My family have been through so much, I feel as though I just cant take any more!!! Sorry to be so glum but I feel as though I just cant burden anyone with my worry.
So sorry to be so sad, I wish I had your upbeat attitude Ali, but am so down at the moment.

My dear Helen, so sorry not to have had a chance to look at my blog over the weekend, but just found your news about your lovely girlie, which really troubled me. I completely understand your worry, and wonder if it might be worth just turning up at A & E and waiting until someone will spend a little time with both of you? My Goddaughter had similar issues when she was younger and amazingly grew out of it, but I know it’s very difficult …. For years with Sam after his accident I would lie awake worrying – not just when he was in hospital, but once he was home, and during the dark times and difficult months as he reassessed his life… Remember your daughter will look to you for reassurance and positivity, so if you possibly can, take a deep breath, put on your best smile and do jolly for her… talk to anyone and everyone and write to us here, and you know that if we can do anything within The Army, we will. I hope so much that you’ll find someone who will assess her earlier and that the situation will improve. Take care and stay strong, hard though it is, with love, Ali xx

Oh Ali thank you for your kind words. We went to A&E a few weeks ago and there was a 5 hour wait!!! Went instead to the GP out of ours section and they gave her antibiotics and told me to see my own GP to arrange a scan. To cut a long story short, I insisted on an ultrasound scan being done just for my own peace of mind to see if there are any problems, if there aren’t the I will wait and see the paediatrician for answers. I spoke with my girls teacher this morning and he said that at her age he sees quite a few with the same thing in class, apparently there are 2 others at the moment with the same thing. Not being horrid, but I felt reassured that my little chicks isn’t alone. My wise Mum has said all along, that its her age and once things, if you know what I mean, start to happen, then it will resolve itself. Shes growing at the rate of knots and eating so well, so again that’s a relief. Its a Mum thing, tying myself up in knots trying to keep calm and collected and trying to make things better. My theory is if I get up in the mornings, shower and put on my make up then I can face the day, its just sometimes very draining. Thank you for being a listening ear, after all, times haven’t been easy for you either. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for being a good friend.
Will keep you posted, she’s back in school today so fingers crossed.

    Hi Ali
Poor Grandad went missing again when Chris’ Uncle went to pick him up, but he found him in exactly the same spot that Chris did.
Being part of the Tour of Britain was fantastic, we took our little Westie, Bobby with us and waited just across the Welsh border. The road was only closed for a brief period and because we were on a slight incline we managed to get a good look…first past were the Sky train, with Cavendish not far behind, but we didn’t see Sir Bradley, he was further back talking to the team car, we both shouted ‘C’mon Bradley’ and he looked over at us, typically, I had left my phone in the car across the road, so missed filming it!
As soon as they had gone past, the road opened and Chris wanted to try and get further along to catch them again…we had got the bug! Keeping an eye on the time we soon realised we would probably miss them, so decided to drive to the Finish at Llanberis. Now, we were in the car, stopped for a 10min butty break and arrived there 10min before they closed the barriers. They arrived half hour later and this time my phone was at the ready! It was all over in seconds and because Chris had an early start the next morning, we drove back on part of the route, which took us nearly 2 hours to get home, but boy was it worth it.
Would have been brilliant to be down in London to watch the Finish.
Looking forward to seeing your necklace design.

Maybe next time you can get into London for the finish. I will look forward very much to showing you the pendant on the 8th October for Diamonique day! I will also be bringing you the TSV for that special day… something I chose with our buyer in Basel. I hope you like! :) Love Ali xx

    Hi Ali,
Don’t know if you’ll ever find this post in all your posts!! But just wanted to say I’m so sorry Debs G has gone! I really hope it wasn’t anything bad, healthwise or other, and that she just needed a change. I hope so. Please pass on my love and best wishes to her. So sad QVC didn’t have a goodbye party.
    Love Susan x

Hi Alison, so glad you had clear results. I was recently diagnosed with womb cancer, over the past eight weeks I have had a full hysterectomy and this week finished my brackytherapy. I am really scared right now that it is still in my body. All I can do from here in on is pray very hard. X
