My ‘Spring Break’!

8

Steve playing with the dogs I have been missing QVC in my two weeks off so it's nice to be writing to you again to share what I've been up to. I'm one of those people who loves their work so much that taking annual leave gets forgotten about until the last minute so I have a total of three weeks off in March.

In my first week off Steve and I drove nine hours to my aunt and uncle's home in gorgeous Scotland. My cousin, her boyfriend and son were staying there too, so we had a nice full house and, thanks to my auntie K, loads of scrummy home-cooked meals.

The scenery was amazing. It snowed a little almost every day, which gave the mountains a real alpine feel. I missed our cats but we enjoyed their pets enormously. One big fat lazy cat and two dogs who were as loopy as they come!

Two dogs and a grape stalk I've heard of dogs playing fetch with sticks but these play with tiny twigs – think grape stalks! I've never seen anything like it! I couldn't work out what they were doing at first. If you look closely in the pic to the right you'll see their 'toy'. Fantastically nutty!

Upon our return home I decided I really wanted to spruce up the house for spring. Not just a little spring clean but a thorough sort out. Steve has made several trips to the dump and charity shops and yet more still keeps coming! Isn't it amazing how much clutter you can accumulate?

I firmly believe in the idea that decluttering surroundings declutters the mind, it's proving to be very therapeutic. Sorting out all my crafting stash has enabled me to see what I've got and now I'm really looking forward to finishing my blitz on the house and getting crafty…

On that note, I shall be getting a double dose of craft this week. On Tuesday I have two hours of Spring Cardmaking from 2pm and then on Friday afternoon I will be attending the Craft Fair at London Olympia so if you're planning to go too, please come say hi!

Must dash again…just sorting out the monstrous amount of clothes I have not been able to get into for years but never throw away. Out they go today!

How have you been getting ready for spring?

Love Catherine x

Hi Catherine, glad you had a nice break. We honeymooned in Scotland, it is absolutely beautiful, just a shame it’s quite such a long way away (we live in Surrey). You always make me feel so much better, talking about your cluttered house, I’m glad we’re not the only ones!!! We’re constantly having clear-outs and sending bin liners of stuff to the dump / charity shop, but, for every item we get rid of, two more seem to find their way into the flat. I’ve been crafting for the past 2.5yrs and my craft stuff is, quite literally, taking over the flat!!! My friend is coming tomorrow to help me to try and start to get some of it in order, as I spend most of the time that I should be crafting hunting for the components. Look forward to your show with Dawn tomorrow, Love Vicky x

Hi Catherine, So glad you had a great break in Scotland. I like in Scotland about 35 miles from Inverness and love it. If I had to choose anywhere else it would be Yorkshire. I know what you mean about the amount you collect and as a crafter it mounts up even quicker. I am away to make mothers day cards for my niece then I will be down to watch you and Dawn for some inspiration. have a good show. Maureen

Thanks for your lovely comments. It’s always so nice to read them and be in touch in this way.
Whenever I think of Scotland I think of my late father. We always moved around a lot when I was growing up but my Mum & Dad lived in a very small place called Lochinver (about 100 miles North of Inverness, I think, Maureen you probably know of it) for a few years and I love my memories of visiting. My father was the gardener for the estate and my mum was the housekeeper of the lodge. It was so incredibly beautiful and is now owned by The National Trust. One day I want to take lots of friends and family to stay there for a week, maybe on one of my big birthdays. Christmas would be magical but they don’t rent it out over Christmas, sadly. Being so peaceful it would make a superb crafters retreat!!
See you soon on the box!
    Love Catherine x
