My Il Divo rendevous

Il DivoHi everyone,

Well it's been full speed ahead since I came back to work, and although a little exhausting in some respects, such fun!!! I have to admit to being a tad disgruntled when I received a Congestion Charge Penalty through the post – I've only been to work five times but forgot on one of the days to pay it!  They've set up a new system now though whereby you register with them, and they bill you every time you come into our great city… a pound less a day, and no risk of a fine… shame I hadn't done it sooner eh? :)

We had a cracking weekend at my sister's 50th birthday, and I got to spend time with my nieces whom I've not seen for over a year, and their lovely young men.  I made Jenny a ribbon cake – much the same as the one I made for Kathy – and having got it safely settled on the cake board, I then had to work out how to transport it in one piece to meet Colin and then drive down to Hampshire. I was doing so well… then a rather tight right hand bend and I felt a thud behind my seat… Trying to levitate a large cake with one hand while driving is not recommended, and so I had to pull into a bus stop and observe the damage.

Someone was definitely smiling on me as apart from one edge having lost its ribbon and flowers, the icing had sort of slid rather than broken off, so I wedged it back together, moved the centre flowers and hey presto!  Mercifully the light in Jenny's house was set to 'ambient' so few folk were any the wiser.

As the evening wore on, we wore holes in the floor gyrating to the likes of Earth Wind and Fire, but a touch of something less frantic would have been perfect to end the evening… Had I have managed to get my hands on Il Divo's brand new album we could have whiled away the wee small hours being entertained by these four delightful young men.

But never mind just listening to them, they are going to be with me this Thursday at 7pm and will sing two songs from their new album especially for us :)  How fab is that?! And it's come about as a direct result of your requests. They are without doubt THE most requested artists EVER here at QVC. I am brushing up on my Spanish, French, Swiss and American (although ‘Howdy’ is relatively easy to remember), and very much looking forward to meeting the Armani clad Maestros. All I have to do now is decide which wig to wear… Mmmmmm red or blonde?  Decisions, decisions :)  I'll see you there!

Love Ali xxxx

    Hi Ali,
How funny the story about the cake! Not that your sis would have cared anyway I’m sure – the thought that counts! And no doubt she has your sense of humour so all would have been well. Sounds like a fun evening was had by all as usual. I do love Il Dino – saw them on Strictly on Saturday and they sang one of my favourite songs. I’m so glad my top 4 fav’s from the start are still top!! Harry, Holly, Jason and Chelsee. And lovely Alex too had a great night Saturday. Hope you’re enjoying if you’re watching.
    Take care,
    Susan x

Hi Ali-you really sound in fine fettle-or whatever they say in Yorkshire!!!!!!Or Postman Pat??? How are your nails doing? The poorly ones that sound very sore? Are you feeling more energy and vitality now as the side-effects of the treatment start to subside? I’d like to see you in a daring red wig- good opportunities to decide what you want to do with your hair when it grows back-probably thicker than ever.Looking forward to seeing your next show.Is QVC still sending the Christmas cards? Last year I didn’t receive one and it left a gaping hole on the mantlepiece-best card of the year usually-it cannot be because I am not spending enough-wish that was true :-) Keep up the good work, brave and strong lady. Love from K.XXX

    Hi Ali,
just caught the last 15 minutes of the beauty show tonight. Loved that red wig it really suits you. I think I prefer your hair short. Shame about your congestion charge. We are lucky here in the Manchester area as there was a large campaign against it and the council decided not to implement it. Glad you had a good time at your sisters birthday party, its always nice to catch up with family. You were lucky with the cake bet you were scared to open the box, I know I would have been. We are going to Coventry on the 4th December to see my step-daughter, son-in-law and the grandchildren and I cant wait. Oliver is six and a half and Holly is almost five. They are getting really excited about Christmas as they have started to prepare for the schools Christmas concert. Wish I could get down to see them but its not possible this year. Their mum is going to take photos and send them to us. Enjoy your show tomorrow night with Il Divo you lucky girl.
Take care and don’t work too hard.
    Love Eileen P.

    Hi Alison,
What a shame you got the Congestion charge, it is remembering everything isnt it. And wow you were lucky with the cake, I am glad it was not damaged. It sounds as if you had a great time at your sister’s birthday and with the family. Yes the Il Divo’s have lovely voices, and yes seem to be very popular. Lucky you meeting them.
It is so nice to have you back and you looked really well on last evening (Wednesday), the hair colour really suited you. Hope everthing continues to go well for you in work and health especially.

Hi Ali, I am SOOOOO jealous, Il Divo are simply ‘well fit!’ as the kids at my school would say and unfortunately any more I would like to say about them is sadly probably not printable…enjoy! Your birthday cake journey reminded me of a trip that me, my twin and three friends made when we were 18 and trying to raise funds for a hockey trip to America. We had a cake stall booked for the Easter fair at Dover Castle and as my sister and I drove a bright vermillion orange mini (with black wheel trims and nudge bars back ands front..definately the dog’s dangly bits!)it was not big enough for us, three friends and large volumes of homemade cakes. So, my frind Julie persuaded her dad to let us borrow his car, a burgundy saloon with room for all of us. So, she picked both us up then a friend in Ramsgate and then drove to Broadstairs to pick up our last passenger plus all the cakes that were at her house. Well, she lived in a cottage in a tiny cul de sac with a flinted wall area in the middle. Unfortunately, it was a very narrow road and as Julie turned into the cul de sac, we all looked at each other as we heard a sound similar to fingernails scratching a chalk board. Julie was in tears and we all tried to reassure her that with a bit of t cutting all would be ok….didn’t console her much and she continued on whispering that her hours of life were numbered. Anyway, friend collected and cakes packed into every space we continued to Dover. All was well and Julie had cheered up a little and cakes were mainly safely anchored…except those on the parcel shelf. Four delightful victiria cream sponges were within 5 mins of a successful journey when we went down the Jubilee way in Dover then back up a windy road to the castle. As Julie manoevered the car from bend to bend the cakes shot backwards and forwards, side to side and despite all our efforts to grab them, ended up smeared on the back window. By the time we arrived we were sick with laughter and despite our traumas we managed to go to America!
So glad you had a fabulous party and I was thinking of you whilst trotting miles round MK, needless to say all shopping now finished! I thenk a cheeky little red number for il Divo…pure passion!!! Lots of love MaryXXX

    Hi (Again) Ali,
Just logged on to read the comments left by other bloggers, and as I did, you came on the screen at the same time, to let us know that you’ll be interviewing Il Divo – such a coincidence! I have their last CD and love listening to it (I particularly like listening to music while driving) – their music never fails to send shivers down my spine! Also, the Choir Boys CD that I purchased from QVC a couple of weeks ago is outstanding – especially the second track – it is emotional, but in a nice warm way. Their voices are so pure and beautiful!!
So glad you had a lovely time with your Sister, and I’m sure the cake was enjoyed by everyone despite its bumpy journey – so pleased it wasn’t damaged after all the hard work you put into it!
Sorry to hear about the Congestion Charge – so annoying! I’ve experienced a similar incident recently, while returning to the Car Park recently after a shopping trip – (yes, by now you have gathered I’m a shoperholic lol!), I was only a couple of minutes late, and had to pay £18 – needed a long lie down when I got home! Still haven’t got over it!! That’s the highest charge I’ve ever paid – daylight robbery I call it!!!
By the way, I love the colour and style of your hair – IT SUITS YOU SO MUCH! Every style suits you, but that particular style, with its red tones, has that edge to it – it’s really lovely! So glad to see you looking so well and happy!!!
Anyway, ENJOY YOUR DATE with IL Divo LoL! – you lucky lady! I’m going to sit down for 5 minutes with a nice coffee and watch your interview with them!
Bye Ali & take care, (Gosh my blogs are getting longer and longer LOL!!)
    Love – Sue Radford xx

Hello Alison, It’s lovely to read that you’re having fun being back at work and we’re delighted to see you. Your sister’s party sounded great, I haven’t heard any Earth Wind and Fire in years, you’ve taken me back to a time of fun and freedom. Fab show with Il Divo and you obviously had a good time interviewing those gorgeous men who seemed really nice and then there were those dark chocolate voices… I think transporting food in cars is always a bit of a trial, even bringing home the weekly shop has caused me problems. However, the worst occasion was when I was three, a time before there were seatbelts in cars, it was my aunt’s wedding and for reasons best known to her my mum had placed a large bowl of trifle on the floor of the back of the car and I was sitting above it! I was told to be careful when I got out but I wasn’t and put both my feet, in my beautiful silver T bar shoes, straight into that creamy softness. Nobody thought it was strange to put a child in charge of a dessert and I got well and truly told off but it didn’t put me off trifle! Love the redhead look, it suits you and is just right for this time of year. Love from Jo x

    Hello Alison,
First of all I would like to say its fantastic to have you back on the telly and you really look fab.
When Helen did her BCC do in October I made Swarovski BCC Ribbon brooches to raise some more money for this vital cause.
I have made one for you as well and send it to the QVC address on Knowsley. I was just wondering if you ever received it?
The reason I ask is that Claudia wanted one too and me not realising that she wasn’t working at QVC anymore I send it to the same address and they claim that they have never received it.
If that is the case then I would need to make a couple more to send to you.
    Kind Regards

    Hi Ali,
I was going to start by saying I hope you’re still speeding down that road to full recovery, but then I just had visions of cakes flying everywhere! LOL. So I’ll re-phrase…..hope you’re feeling as well as you look. I like the red hair, they say a change is as good as a rest and the style is great too.
Who was a lucky girl then!!! Meeting Il Divo, wow! I saw them in concert a couple of years ago at the MEN Manchester and they were
brilliant.Such a mixed audience as some were just wanting to sit quiet as at a classical concert and a section behaving as at a pop concert, screaming etc.Surreal but great.
Well ,started the xmas build up,got all my “to do” lists ,just need a list to say which order to do them in!!!
    Bye for now
    Love Pam xx

Not very good at this “posting feed” stuff. However, will persevere. I sent a text the other night to say how fabulous you looked in your red wig. Honestly the short, sassy cut and colour really suited you and once your hair is back to normal you should think about a funky colour like that. Took years off you (not that you needed it!) well done to you, you are doing so well and an inspiration to everyone. Just been looking at the wedding photos and they look divine.

    Hi Ali
I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see you looking so well and sounding so positive. I am feeling a bit low at the moment but seeing you back on our screens doing what you love has made me smile. Didn’t catch the Il Divo show but I bet you enjoyed yourself. They are all SO handsome aren’t they?!!
Helen, I am so sorry that you are feeling so jaded and tired at the moment. It must be so hard for you to try to rally yourself to do anything. I am sending you a hug as that’s all I can do but you and the lovely Alpa too are never far from my thoughts.
Alpa, I do so hope that you are OK as we haven’t heard fro you in a while. Sending you a hug too my lovely.
Magda, it was so lovely to hear from you. Sorry that your cancer tablets have made you so poorly. We are all holding your hand and sending you our best wishes.
Well, we took Ainzley to the vets on Friday for his 3 month check up. All was well on the way there. No fur balls, wees or worse to report. He did growl and hiss mightily at the vet mind you. I have never seen such a look of blind panic in anyone’s eyes before as the vet scuttled backwards across the room!! Needless to say the sedation injection followed rather quickly (for Ainzley, not the vet although he did look like he could have used something himself!!)
All going well you might think. Well, not quite! We were driving to fetch Ainzley when I happened to look up and, to my horror, saw a spider on the sun visor. I screamed, Neal my OH braked and pulled over, I shot out of the car yelling “Spider, spider!” as I ran!! Neal is quite used to this as I am petrified of spiders. Mind you, we’ve never had one in the car before so even he was a tad shocked. Anyway, after 5 minutes of frantic searching of the car and the offending arachnid removed we continued on our way me trembling and Neal shaking his head and muttering about accidents and lunatics!!
We arrived at the vets and a nurse was dispatched to fetch Ainzley (we don’t even have to report to reception as we are now known by sight and Ainzley is known by reputation!!) The nurse bought him out and we asked how he’d been “Not the best” she replied. I asked no more questions as I didn’t want to know as he ALWAYS embarrasses me!! You will be pleased to know that the journey home was uneventful which was just as well as my nerves couldn’t have taken any more!! Cats and spiders. Not a good mix!!!
    Lots of love and licks

I just read your messages today and as I’ve left a wee message for Magda I thought I leave one to say I’m thinking of you girls too. Not a great time of year as it doesn’t help with your fatigue and I know how you feel. I do find that getting a short walk in the park or something every day if you can helps a bit and talking to strangers with dogs – very friendly! Might sound strange but helps feel a bit more part of the community as such. Anyway, just to say I’m thinking of you,

I think probably my first mistake Eileen, was NOT having the cake in a box!! The cake board was so big it wouldn’t fit! I have learned my lesson though, and Colin wedged it in professionally between two pillows on the remainder of the journey, so all was well. Joanna I could almost feel the trifle between my toes! Crazy times eh, but lovely story, thank you :) As far as the weekly shop goes, I’ve decided to opt for Larry in the Lemon van who delivers my groceries as my right arm is useless at carrying heavy bags now. glad to hear you too are an Earth Wind and Fire Girl – they don’t sing ‘em like that any more do they?? I hope you have a great week, and thank you for keeping in touch. Glad you like the autumnal hair :) love Ali xx

My dear Karin, Claudia has been in touch with me about the ribbon brooch, and I can also truthfully say that I have not received one to date either…. If you did wish to resend – and that is very generous of you – it would be better to send them to Marco Polo House, 346 Queenstown Road, London SW8 4NQ> thank you so much for your kind thought, love Ali xx

Pam when you’ve worked out your order in which ‘to do’ your Christmas chores, please let me have a copy. I couldn’t believe my own words yesterday when I said on air that in four weeks time it would be Christmas Eve!! I could ask where has the year gone, but I know the answer to that, and I’m glad to have it behind me. Yes Il Divo were lovely, and I think I may well have to get tickets to see them at the Albert Hall in April! Take care and good look with all your Christmas plans, love Ali xx

I do hope it will be possible to see you, but if not, there’s always next year. Glad you liked the red hair – very warm now the colder weather’s here too! Lots of love and get well soon, love ali xx

I will dig out a picture of the cake I made for Kathy as apart from a different colour ribbon and flowers it looked the same – well a tad squashed but pretty much the same :) Love to you and all the Army, ali xx

My dear Helen, so sorry to hear that you are still feeling low… Is there any way you could have a complete MoT? Could you be low in iron as I know that often makes you tired? Perhaps a second opinion would be a good idea… sometimes you feel as though you’re going over the same ground with the same GP…I too have missed Una and Alpa’s missives and Debz – although she was in touch more recently. Do hope you girls are all ok, and Helen, please do perserve in getting an answer… there’s one out there somewhere. Stay strong, so much to look forward to – honestly :) With love, Ali xx

Debz I’m so sorry you’ve been feeling low, but I’m glad that we at QVC have managed to cheer you – even if just a little. You write so brilliantly you had me in stitches last night reading about your arachnid moment! How awful for you! I have always wondered how I’d cope if I was driving and one suddenly appeared in front of me…much the same way you did I would imagine! Anything Ainzley could have done after that would have paled into insignificance I think :) I hope your nerves have settled and you OH has stopped muttering now, and that the rest of this week will be a good one for you. Thanks for writing, I – along with the rest of Ali’s Army – have been worried about you, With love, Ali xxx

Happy belated 50th Birthday to your Sister, but have to admit I don’t know what a Ribbon Cake is, sorry, but I bet it tasted delicious. I’ve seen you on tele a few times now and you look great; it’s lovely to see you looking so well. I absolutely loved the black lace dress you were wearing on one of the days; my type of dress, it was so elegant. Hope you got my little gift. Glad Lucy is okay, and the boys. Hope Sam is in a good place at the moment. Love to all the ladies who are struggling at the moment and lots of love Magda, hope they sort you out soon with the medication xx Stay well, lots of love, Gail xxx

    Hi Ali
In my haste to tell all about Ainzley and my spider moment I forgot to ask how your CT scan went. How thoughtless of me. I’m glad it was clear and now its just an MRI I believe? Here’s hoping that that’s good news too. Also, good luck with you reading at the carol concert. You’re getting to be quite an old hand at these things now eh?!! I’m sure you will be fantastic as always!
Helen and Susan, thank you so much for thinking of me it really means a lot.
Alpa, I do hope you are OK my friend.
Una, I hope that you are OK too and that your family worries are easing a little. We are all missing you.

    Hi Ali,
I’ve just read back and found the replies from you. 20!!! what a lovely compliment, but I must say that the light was VERY good the day my husband took that photo! When I told my daughter what you’d said she laughed and said “what photo did you send then, was it an old one” – cheeky monkey!!! Thank goodness for makeup, that’s all I can say LOL (by the way I’m coming up to my 58th aaaargh – that reminds me – must order more polyfiller -bucket fulls LOL).
You had to pay £180!! – you must have been so upset about that! Makes my £18 parking ticket seem insignificant!!
Reading through the blogs, I noted that you hadn’t received an item that was sent from one of the other bloggers. When I sent you my photo I included a little something – I hope you received that.
I really hope all the other regular bloggers who aren’t feeling well will soon be back to good health. I love reading Debz’s blogs – she is so funny and I can’t help but laugh out loud when reading her comments – Ali she must have brightened up some of your ‘not so good’ days!
Bye ’til your next blog – Good Luck for the 5th! (“Now, where can I go shopping tomorrow” – LOL).
    Love – Sue Radford xx

Dear Ali, thank you so much for being concerned, especially after what you’ve been through. Last time I went to the GP about a week ago I had a good health check. All bloods ok (about 5 test tubes later) including iron, cholesterol, blood sugar etc all great, my BP is that of a teenager, the face doesn’t reflect that i’m afraid, haha! I read an article about perimenopause, which I did mention to my Dr but as my FSH levels were in the ‘normal range’ she didn’t think it was hormonal, and do you know it sums me up completely, from insomnia, nausea to, well not sweating with the hot flushes, but oh my gosh my face goes like a beetroot and I was the only one out shopping a while back without a coat! Perhaps the lack of sleep has had a knock on effect of the ME, anyone that can shed any light on the topic, I would be grateful. I’M COMING BACK AS A MAN!!!!!!
Anyway, moan over, I must say and I hope you don’t think I’m being cheeky, but I do think you look lovely with short hair, so very trendy, and I remember my Mum’s joy at having bed hair, bless you to. After she dumped her wig and went ‘bare’, she was stopped so many times and was asked where she had her funky hair cut done.
Thank you Sue for your kind words and Debz, well of course we care, we’re chums!!!
Alpa, Una are you there, we’re all missing you and do hope that you are ok?
I’m off to write my xmas cards now, not a job that i relish but it has to be done.

Hi Ali and the rest of your ‘army’,
I know you will be reading at the BCC carol concert tonight and hope it is a wonderful evening.
Sorry I’ve not posted for a while but I’ve been busy (doing nice things) and haven’t quite got round to it. I am sooooo pleased your scan was all clear Ali – it must have been such a relief. Often the waiting for results is the worst bit, isn’t it? Hopefully all will go smoothly and to plan from now on and you can just get on with things (at a sensible pace, remember!!)
My busy times recently have involved travel. My sister gave me a 3 hour flight in search of the Northern Lights for my birthday and Xmas and Mum and I went on the trip in late November. Sadly we didn’t see any of that aurora, although we did see millions of stars. It was really disappointing as my sister has seen the lights on a holiday in the Arctic and so wanted us to be able to see them – we were more upset for her than ourselves!! Anyway, such is the way things go….Last week, my partner and I went on a last minute short break to Krakow. We have a few Polish friends and they said it was a lovely city so we decided to go. We had great weather with blue skies and sunshine but no snow!!! All my other half wanted was a bit of snow, so he now says we will have to go again when it’s snowing. The people in the hotel, and indeed all of Krakow, were so friendly and helpful and gave excellent service. We had a trip to Auschwitz and also one to some Salt Mines (sounds boring but is really interesting – honest!!!) where they have made huge sculptures and even a cathedral underground where the salt has been removed. 800 steps down but a lift back up thank goodness!!!!!! Unusually for me, I have nothing else planned apart from a trip to London in January to see the Leonardo exhibition that is now sold out. Fortunately I bought tickets almost as soon as they were released.
I have been using my Nintendo Wii package I bought from QVC. It’s great fun but I am very unco-ordinated these days. I am going to go on it for the first time in just over a week tonight so will probably be telling me off for not doing anything for ages!!! It’s much better than thinking of joining the gym or anything reckless like that. I have also just had to get a new pair of glasses and had to resort to varifocals for the first time so am getting used to them and making sure I don’t trip up over nothing or fall downstairs. I tried to blame the drugs for my eyes getting worse but optician said it was all down to my age!!!!!
Ah well, I’ve blabbed on loads here. Magda – do ask about alternative drugs that may give less side-effects, it could help you loads. Thinking of all of the army who are struggling.
    Love and hugs, Liz x

Dear Gail, so lovely to hear from you, and a ribbon cake is basically a Victoria Sandwich covered in fondant icing, and with loops of ribbon all the way around. You fill the loops with gysophelia and put fresh flowers on the middle – looks very pretty, and is relatively easy to make! Please forgive me but I have made a faux pas with regards gifts/cards etc. I put them all together but lost who sent what and now have a beautiful keyring, a lola rose necklace, and a special medal of Our Lady which was blessed. I am not at all sure who sent what, but thank you so much in advance of sorting it all out!!! yes great relief about the scan – have MRI tomorrow of breast(S) then all sorted hopefully. The little black lace dress is from Jane Norman, and has become a firm favourite! Sam doing a fair bit better thank you, and all of us looking forward to Christmas, love ali xx

Dear Debz not thoughtless at all – you have enough going on! Yes MRI today (thursday) but should be fine. I saw Amica today and she is doing well – change in medication but healing well. The carol concert reading was well received, but I was soooo nervous! I think it may have been because of it being in church, but Lucy and Rich turned up as a surprise, and I managed to get through it with only a slight stumble… Back to the marching now though, and I do hope that your pre-Christmas plans are all going well, love Ali xx

I so hope i get a few more pictures as I’d love to bring the montage on air one day so you could all see each other :) You’re right about Debz’s blogs – they are hilarious! She should write a book!! My own hair still a tad short to be uncovered I feel, and too bloomin’ cold! Eyelashes though are the best they’ve EVER been, thanks to revitalash… everyone thinks

Wow Liz, you certainly pack a lot into your life don’t you!! Even I’M disappointed for you not having seen the Aurora but having watched Frozen Planet I was treated to several minutes on screen, and it was AMAZING! The salt mines sound very interesting, although I have to be honest and say I don’t think i could cope with a visit to Auschwitz.. I visited the Anne Frank’s hideaway in Amsterdam, and it had a profound effect on me…haunted me for weeks…That said, I do believe it is something very valuable to remind those of us still here… Well done you for booking early to get to the Leonardo Exhibition – do let me know what you think. I’m thinking of getting a Nintendo Wii – my friend Ros uses hers regularly and really enjoys it. I’m probably OK to go back to the gym now… I miss walking but it’s been so cold! Hia Ali, thank you for your reply, I do hope that you are well and that all your results will be fine. I did blog a few days ago about the sparkly ring on ‘the finger’ that you were wearing during the Lulu Guiness hour, any news?
I’m missing hearing from Una and Alpa, I do hope that they are well, if you are reading this girlies, check in and let us know that you are ok.
Debz, how are you my lovely? Hope that you are feeling a litte less jaded than of late. I’m still not great, but I have to get up and get on, so much to do before Xmas.
Magda, hope they’ve sorted your tablets out for you.
Well Ali, i’ve come to the conclusion that I will just have to grin and bear whatever is going on with me. My friend, an ex nurse, thinks its hormonal/me and that i’ve just got to go with it so to speak. HRT isn’t an option because of my Mum having breast cancer, so i’ll just keep on taking the evening primrose etc. My sweatpea has a full social calender before they break up, not until the 22nd for us, a little late i think. Her school choir has a trip to Alberto Culver today where they are singing and a guided tour of the factory along with a buffet, which I think is one of the reasons that she’s going. Then on Sunday we’re off to the local hospital where the choir will perform, she has here school xmas dinner on monday, school trip to the Wonderland on Thursday and another choir ‘gig’ on friday evening for the local rotary club!!!! The following and final week, we just have the church carol service. Then I plan to spend the first day they break up in my pj’s, by which time i’ll be floored, my goodness i’m worn out just writing it, haha, oh to be young again and the things we took for granted!!!!!
Anyway, girlies, let us know how your doing. Ali, take care and let me know about the ring!!!!
    Love and festive hugs

My dear Alpa, have just written a great long reply to you and then we had a power cut so it didn’t send! :) I am so sorry to hear that you are feeling so low, and even more sorry that you are not getting the help and support you so deserve from your doctor. Without a moment’s hesitation I would say change doctors. This one sounds unbelievably unhelpful, and as the system is computerised it would be very easy for a new GP to understand you and your history and therefore be able to help you… There are some very good doctors out there and as your needs are complex you require someone who is prepared to make an effort on your behalf. I’m glad to be able to tell you that the MRI was clear, so hopefully no more of those for the forseeable future! The over knee boots are infact black and they’re from Moda In Pella – online is how I got them, and they are incredibly comfortable as well as rather lovely! Thank you for the compliments re my hair/wigs :) Rather lovely being able to change style on a whim eh? Yes the Carols were magical, and it was a memorable evening, especially having Lucy and Rich there too. I still can’t quite believe we are going to Australia, and both Colin and I are very much looking forward to it. The vineyards in Tasmania are spectacular apparently so I will need to take lots of photos :) Yes, Sam has found a new home, and fingers crossed he should move in just prior to me going away – it will be a relief to us both to finally have him settled. Alpa I am so sorry to think that you will be spending Christmas alone – I know you say you feel low, but sometimes having someone with you gives you the reason to ‘do jolly’ which in turn makes you feel better. I hope it will warm you to know that ALL your friend in Ali’s Army will be thinking of you, and my editor has told me that she will be posting comments the week after Christmas, so do keep in touch with us all won’t you. Take care, and try to stay positive, I have a good feeling that 2012 will be a better year for us all, with my love, Ali xx

Dear Sharon, I’m so sorry to hear that you have been going through treatment, but hope that once the soreness wears off you will feel better for your surgery. I’m sorry too to hear about your nails. The fact that they have fallen off means you’ll probably have to wait for new regrowth and then I would apply nail envy to the new nail. My nail beds all died but the nails miraculously stayed although they are bright purple and black! Stay strong and every good wish for your recovery. With love, Ali xx

My dear Helen that’s exactly what the blog is about – us all sharing our news and helping where we can. So nice to think that this year we’ve built up this network, and I for one, would be lost without it :) Struggling a bit with sore throat and a temperature but hope to be back on Thursday for my last two days work before Christmas :) Love to you, Ali xx

Dear Edna, Thank you for your lovely words, and yes my MRI was clear so that was good news :) So glad you like the red wig – it’s fun to wear, and so much warmer than my VERY short hair! Have a wonderful Christmas, love Ali x

Maria, you are so right! Nothing better than a good laugh to raise the spirits, and I know that once Amica is back and amongst friends life will be much more ‘normal’. it is fantastic to have Oz to look forward to, and I’m hoping to finalise flights today – spoke to my brother yesterday, and am so looking forward to seeing him again after 7 years… a great deal has happened in that time! Have a wonderful christmas and every good wish for the new year, love Ali x

Oh Angela that’s hard for you, especially as you say, this close to Christmas. Gather those you love around you and hold fast to your memories – I’m sure you have plenty of good ones…. Yes, thank you I did get your photo and you look Fab! It’s so nice to put a face to the name, and my Gallery is getting bigger by the day :O Take care, and have a VERY happy Christmas and thank you for keeping in touch throughout this year – it’s made such a difference, truly, love Ali xx

Susan we did have a cracking night! Debs is much better organised than me – I don’t seem to be able to keep up at the mo, but do hope to post a new blog tomorrow morning with the pics. Yes Deb’s tree put the one in Trafalgar Square to shame :) Have a great Christmas, love Ali xx

Maria, that is a truly lovely thing to say…. Gail, one of our bloggers sent me a necklace saying ‘courage’ which I wear when I’m struggling a bit :) I’m trying to see it as all behind me, and I have Soooo much to look forward to next year that I feel blessed. Have a great Christmas, and every happiness in the New Year, love Ali x

Tricia, how lovely – glad you’ve got a new snack! :) And how sweet Charlie was when I made it for him. He was very kind to me while I was away, and visited on many occasions even though lives a long way off… a true friend :) I very much hope you have a happy christmas and that you will stay in touch in 2012, with love, Ali xx

Hello Anne, I do hope you had a wonderful time in Croatia – the more I hear about the country, the more I wish to visit it! However, it’ll be Oz and Dubai first :) Thanks for your kind words and good wishes, and I very much hope that you and your family will also have a fabulous Christmas, and enjoy a happy and healthy 2012, love Alixx

Hello again Helen – we must be the same age, as I too remember the business with batteries for Christmas toys – if you didn’t have them you had to wait!! also remember the hoo ha with the Christmas lights too – never seemed to work, and one year my Dad bought cheap ones and there was a warning about them on Radio 4!! :) Have a lovely Christmas and stay relaxed…. get someone to spoil you for a change :) love to you, Ali xx

Gail, so glad you too saw the funny side of ‘fuzzy navel’ especially as we had the No No! Hair removal set on later :) Deb Greenwood’s gone for the dress too, and no doubt will look cracking in it. Hopefully Ronni Nicol or one of our designers will come up with something similar in the New Year :) It’s a shame you don’t like flying, but if we do visit Australia zoo I will make sure I take plenty of pictures to show you on our return. Having just written to Alpa and Helen, I too was wondering about Marg and Una?? Girls, if you’re reading, drop us a line so we know all is well. And Gail, if my ‘courage’ necklace was from you thank you so much… there was no address on the letter otherwise I would of course have written to you personally. Have a great Christmas, love Ali xx

Bless you Paula, I have to say I hardly recognised myself!! Loved the eyes though, and have to pinch myself when I see how long my lashes are now!! I hope that you too have a healthy and happy Christmas and New Year, love Ali xx

Hello there Brenda, what a lovely thing to say! I tend to mix and match with clothes although Karen Millen fit me well, and I’ve had some lovely things from Phase Eight and Coast over the years. My feet are 4 and a half, although I wear size 5 shoes cos no-one seems to do half sizes any more :) I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too, love Ali xx

Hello there Martin. I’m sure you’ll have a good time with your mum and dad and your aunt, and then you can sit back and relax once it’s all over :) No, we’re not going out, I always like to stay in and cook the lunch. All my children for Christmas lunch, and then all Colin’s children will be joining us for tea and the evening – it should be fun, albeit a little crowded in my tiny house! Take care, love Ali x

Hello there Merinda – what a beautiful name! Thank you for the compliment for Sunday’s show. The dress is actually from Jane Norman, and I know a great many of the girls at QVC liked it and look fab in it too! Have a wonderful Christmas and thank you for writing, love Ali xx
