I’m Katy Pullinger, QVC’s newest presenter! I’ve put a little video together with some fun facts about me so you can get to know me better:
Wow what a crazy whirlwind of a start! I’ve had so much fun behind the scenes getting to grips with how things run over on the main channel. It’s incredible to see how QVC works and how many people it takes to make it all happen. I’ve met with buyers from so many departments to talk about brands and products, they are all really passionate about what they choose for the QVC audience.
I have sat in the Gallery with a head set to listen to the live shows and to get used to what the director and producers will be saying. Speaking on air when so much is going on in your ear is one of those things that you have to master!
I also got to choose a wardrobe of outfits and shoes to wear on air which was so much fun. I was spoilt for choice from everything on the website but I definitely have some favourite pieces already from MarlaWynne and shoes from Clarks and Peter Kaiser.
I’ve done health and safety, watched countless hours of previous shows, had new official head shots taken, and then finally left for the bank holiday weekend knowing that on Tuesday I would be going live for the first time on the main channel!
My family and I had a fantastic weekend that was sadly a bit bitter sweet. Some of our very good friends, Chris and Jane were going to be leaving the country to live in Hong Kong. This meant plenty of leaving drinks and parties to say Bon Voyage! On Friday night it was a last dinner out with just the girls, we stayed local and went to a really nice restaurant/bar and I was fully decked out in my new togs: a MarlaWynne tunic and Slim ‘n’ Lift leather look leggings!
To top off the look for the evening I had Roberto by RFM Jewellery, all my girl friends oohed and aaahed over it and were very impressed by the fact that Roberto was, and still is, the jewellery designer for Sex and the City. Yes apparently another film is in the pipeline!! (These pieces will be on air 7th June!)
On the Sunday we went to a day time family friendly venue with outdoor pizza oven and plenty of room for the kids to play for the official leaving party. It was so much fun to have so many of our friends in one place but once the goodbyes started then there were plenty of tears from everyone. We spend a lot of time with Chris, Jane and their kids so it will be very weird to not have them around for Sunday lunches and BBQs. Our little girls are such good friends so it will be hard on them but thanks to Skype we can see them and stay in contact.
I was really comfortable but felt equally stylish in my dress from Join and I doubled up on RMF bracelets too, you’ve gotta love a bit of stacking!
Monday was mostly about getting ready to head up to London for my first live shows. When I’m working at QVC I often stay at my mum and dad’s house along with my two girls, sometimes my husband Fred is with us too, if he is on the road that week for work. It’s so nice to be able to have a base there and spend time with my parents, and of course they love to have their grandchildren in the house causing mayhem!
So on Tuesday morning, with a few butterflies in my tummy it was off to QVC. I was extra early to make sure I had seen all the items I would be talking about on air but before I knew it, it was 12.30 and time to get to the studio and ready for the Lunchtime Show. I was very grateful to be on air with Simon Biagi, he is such a professional so I knew all would be fine.
The first 20 minutes felt like a bit of a blur but once I started to relax it was all fun and smooth sailing. After that it was an hour of Frank Usher with the fabulous and glamourous June, they really are perfect accessories for anyone who likes a little sparkle in their lives.
Later at 5 I was in for a surprise as my Earth Spirit hour was going to be guested by a very good friend of mine, Rhiannon Duffin, who is a stylist and lifestyle blogger. We both live in the same town so we get to hang out quite a lot so it was so great to be on air together.
It was a great first day and I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped get me ready for air, particularly Paul (the presenter manager) who has been at my side the whole time guiding me through everything. I’m so happy to be here for the summer and to be part of such a great team.
