Hello! Hope you've had a good week so far!
I jumped in the car to head to work Saturday morning and popped on the windscreen wipers to clear the window… They swept by, but nothing cleared! The first frost had arrived. Winter's coming!
I mentioned a few blogs back how I read a great line a few years back… 'when was the last time you did something for the first time?' Well, true to my word I did something for the first time last week. I'm still aching as a result. I played sqaush for the first time ever!
Racket sports are nothing new to me. I play lots of tennis, the occasional game of badminton and we also have table tennis here at QVC. My son has been asking to play squash so we headed to court number two last week. It's a bit like playing in a huge box. All four walls are a surface you can hit the ball on to. I'll start by saying; it's nothing like tennis and the ball hardly bounces! Infact, you need to warm the ball up a little to get it to bounce at all!
The game is fast and explosive and we loved it. We were a little uncertain of the rules so I phoned a colleague at QVC during our match to figure out what to do!
When I play tennis, I go for every shot and often end up running off court because I throw myself at every ball! In squash, that can be a mistake! I clearly need to pace myself and judge the shots a little better.
Much to the joy and laughter of my son I raced for a number of shots and was unable to stop myself and went crashing into the wall…. Thankfully, no one was around to watch me, although I think half the leisure centre heard my son laughing! My shoulders the next day felt battered and bruised!
If you have any advice I'd love your feedback! In the meantime I need to find an ice-scraper to have on standby for the car and remind myself that a squash court is confined by four walls!
Take care and see you soon.
ps… my son thrashed me
