My favourite ever Christmas present!

1

Hello!
Not long now! How is your shopping going? All done yet? I don’t think I’m too far off from finishing but I know there will be a last minute dash and panic on Christmas Eve, no doubt! Flowers grabbed from the petrol station perhaps?!

I do love the build up to Christmas though! Lights twinkling, music playing and fabulous food in the offing!

I love the magic of it and the anticipation of the very special day approaching and I find that I tend to reminisce a lot too. I have some wonderful memories of Christmas from years past with family and friends.

We were chatting recently about the best and most unusual gifts we’ve ever given or received. For me, the most amazing present was the most unexpected! I think I must have been around 11 or 12 years old when I got mine.

Being one of four children plus a cat, dog and hamster too ours was a busy and costly household! But I’ll never forget being given a little parcel as my main present. It was about the size of a ring box, I opened it to find the key to the shed, and I thought perhaps Mum and Dad had bought me a wood work set for Christmas? I opened the shed door with anticipation… and there it was the biggest surprise ever… A brand new BMX bike!

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Most of the bikes I’d had before, Dad and I had renovated and resprayed. I didn’t dream of asking for a BMX as I knew they weren’t cheap. I was lost for words and I was beyond grateful.

I loved my bike and rode for hours upon hours every day – learning new tricks from wheelies to bunny hops as I went! I wore through numerous tyres and grips and made some custom changes over time too, including the break levers and pedals!

Mum also had the knack of finding the most unusual of gifts too. One of the most intriguing and magical was like nothing else I had seen before. I would best describe it as a glass wand… even though it wasn’t a wand! About a foot long, made of glass (similar in shape and size to a bread stick) filled with liquid, little stars and shapes which floated around and glowed in the dark!

I loved that but it went missing after a few years… I suspect someone broke it and daren’t tell me or perhaps it broke when we were moving home :- (

Then there was the year I was given a digital watch which played the James Bond 007 theme tune for the alarm! How cool is that? I still have that watch to this day! Brilliant!

Radio controlled cars were always popular with me and I’ve rediscovered that part of my childhood with the fabulous Turbo Twisters at QVC! All the details are here and there’s a presentation too that you can watch… Also, they have lots of 5 star reviews as well.

I’d love to hear about your best or most unusual gift ever.

I’m back on air keeping warm with a helping hand from Cozee Home this Tuesday 13th December at midnight. They’re here with a fabulous Today’s Special Value – a set of two reversible fleece four-piece duvet sets! A perfect time of year for them too. Toasty, toasty and warm!

I’m also on air later in the day on Wednesday 14th with the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor jewellery collection at 9pm then Elemis at 11pm.

I hope you can join me.

In the meantime – I’m off to open the next door on our chocolate advent calendar!

Take care and see you soon.

    Evening Charlie.
I really can’t believe it’s just about 2 1/2 weeks until the big day…where’s this year gone ??
I’m one of 3 [ the middle one ] and the same there wasn’t a lot of money to go around then. One of my surprise presents was a record player. That year it was the must have present and i never expected to receive one. After the big day it was straight to wooolworths to get some singles. The most special present was a teddy dog from my dad. Precious because it was the last christmas present from my dad. Then the strangest was a draft excluder [ because I was always complaining about the drafts]. Mind you nothing has changed much, still hate the drafts and the cold. I think I must tune into cozee homes [ I don’t have any ] YET. Maybe santa will bring me a set.
    Take care.
