Haircare expert Philip Kingsley has handed over the QVC guest reigns to Sinead Howard, the brand's Head of New Product Development.
Sinead’s day-to-day duties include overseeing the choice of ingredients, the development of product names and much more, plus she has been a regular face behind the scenes here at QVC for the past three years.
We caught up with Sinead to find how it feels to be in front of the camera…
How did it feel taking over guest duties from Philip Kingsley?
It was a great honour, but quite nerve racking! I’ve worked with Philip for the last three and a half years and see him as an amazing mentor; he’s so incredibly knowledgeable and has a totally unique approach to hair.
He has so many amazing stories about the people he has worked with over the years and he is a real gentleman and a dying breed! All in all it’s been great, everyone at QVC are so friendly. Philip will be back next year for our anniversary shows so look out for that!
How long have you been in the beauty business?
I’ve worked in beauty on and off for over 10 years. I started working for California Tan and helped develop their retail and salon ranges. Beauty really is my passion; my cosmetics cupboard is as big as my wardrobe!
I love working in haircare at Philip Kingsley because we are not restricted by strict budgets when we develop a product, and get to use the best ingredients possible so our products really deliver on their claims. I also count myself very lucky to have such a hands-on role in creating products alongside Philip.
What are your top three products from the range?
- Elasticizer – I will never be without this product!
- Moisture Balancing Conditioner – ultra moisturising without too much weight and THE best detangler I’ve found.
- Maximizer – this gives me volume without stickiness, shine and the appearance of more hair (something I’m obsessed with!). Joint third would be Daily Damage Defence a new product we are launching in February next year, I’ve been testing it for the last couple of months and it’s AMAZING!!
Premium, effective, expert.
What celebrities do you admire for their hairstyle?
It’s so difficult to know if you are actually looking at real hair these days with the use of hair extensions. I have nothing against good ones, but really admire those with naturally thick, smooth, shiny hair (as I have naturally fine, wavy and frizzy hair!).
Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz and, a little closer to home, Lisa Snowdon all have great hair. I love the frequency that Rihanna changes her hair; my favourite on her was short. Britney is currently using the range whilst touring and loves Elasticizer!
Tune into the Philip Kingsley shows on Thursday 29th December at 4pm and 11pm to hear more from Sinead.
