With Il Divo

My autumn/winter 2015 so far

This week I had my first day of the winter so far where I didn’t actually see any daylight. I arrived at work when it was still dark, and left after it had got dark again in the evening! This happens often in winter and it’s a little depressing… but at the same time, it’s actually one of my favourite seasons. I love snuggly jumpers and boots, candles and open fires, faux fur coats and walks on crisp, cold Sunday afternoons. So this week I thought I’d list some of the things I’ve been enjoying about autumn/winter 2015 so far!

1. My sister Loraine, who is a social worker in Dublin, came to visit last weekend with her boyfriend. We decided to walk to a restaurant about an hour away for Sunday lunch, and what a glorious, sunny November day it was! We took a selfie on one country road – we actually needed sunglasses! Fabulous.

2. My love affair with Cozee Home bedding continues. I’m not sure how many sets of this divine, soft, fleece bedding I have now, but you can never have enough, so I treated us to a new set for the new season. It’s zebra print, and possibly the cosiest yet. Yes, I’m slightly obsessed…!

3. We have a lot of great music guests at QVC at the moment and I had the pleasure of interviewing the gorgeous Il Divo for the second time last week. Look out for them with their new album on QVC very soon.

4. It’s sometimes nice to change your look a little when the season changes. I had great fun trying on wigs during our Hairdo show last week, and lots of people said the slightly darker colour really suited me. So I’m thinking of putting a few darker highlights in my hair for the winter. What do you think?

Both are divine, but I’m Team Frangipani. Which one will you be, I wonder? My hubby has also been trying out the new pro-collagen marine cream for men. He’s a huge Elemis fan, and has given this the thumbs up, so worth a look if you need a Christmas gift idea for a man in your life.

6. And finally….chocolate is good no matter what the season. But on a chilly day, with a steaming hot cup of tea and a good book, it’s sheer bliss. We have a fab Today’s Special Value from Thorntons coming up on Friday 13th, and yes, I got an advance sample. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it, eh?

I love your hair with the darker tones in it , it brings out your coloring and makes you look so much younger and not as harsh to your face .The lighter color seems to drain you

      Hi Sue,
Yes I think you’re right. And anything to make us look younger must be good, I will speak to my hairdresser next time I visit!

I agree with you about the dark in the morning and night!
I think your hair would be much better dark. The colour you have now is so harsh and brittle looking and does not suit your lovely face. Three shades darker and it would look fab. Don’t just get highlights that won’t be enough get the colour changed all over. The wig colour is so much softer looking and takes years off you.

I love Elimis and Thorntons might just treat myself.

      Hi Ka,
Yes, I think it’s definitely time for a change and thanks for your advice, I will take the photo of me in the wig and show my hairdresser! Hope you enjoy your Elemis and Thorntons if you decide to go for them.

Keep the lighter colour, don,t be beige and boring! Irealise as a sales person you have to wear the clothes you are trying to sell us but avoid black it does nothing for anyone with a light complexion go for pastel colours.

      Hi Susan,
Yes I do agree that pastel colours look better, not so many around in our ranges at this time of year but I will when I can!

Hi Jackie – yes, your hair does look over-bleached in its current colour and does nothing to enhance your lovely face (sorry!). Going two or three shades darker (like the lovely wig you wore) would make you look absolutely stunning – do take the plunge. When you then look back at how you look now, you’ll understand.

Also, congratulations on your novel which I read from start to finish in one sitting. I simply could not put it down. I did have to write a list of who all the characters were as there were rather a lot of them, and this really helped me when reading the book. A fab story, very well written and a fascinating insight into journalism on the road.

I must also commend you for broaching the subject of the main character not wanting children (you and me both) which I don’t think I’ve ever heard mention anywhere else. People have never been able to ‘get’ why I decided not to have children and conversation does become stilted when I mention it, so good on you!

Can’t wait for the next book.

      Hi Susanne,
Yes I think you’re right, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut with hair colour but I think I need a change!
Thanks so much about your comment on my book, and yes the children thing is a tricky topic, although it really shouldn’t be in this day and age. I had a lot of questioning about it when I was younger, so thought I’d use that in the novel. I’m glad you understand as not everyone does! Thanks for getting in touch.

    Hi Jackie

All the Hairdo and hair pieces look synthetic! The hair pieces stand outunder those studio lights. I am not a fan!

I think a few darker highlights would suit your sweet face and warm your complexion.

I finished your book! So glad someone at QVC is writing in the crime genre. I usually go for darker stories that are a faster pace. Yours was lighter hearted, no graphic detail, a little too slow in parts for me but comical in other parts making me chuckle. Its was nice to read. I have my fave character who I hope will make an appearance in the next story. I look forward to the next one.

Very well done to you and I hope you continue writing what you love.

      Hi Tania,
Yes I think darker highlights is the answer, I have a hair appointment coming up soon so you will see the results shortly!
I too generally like darker crime novels as a reader, but felt like writing something a little lighter. Book two which is out next year is slightly darker though, and yes many of the same characters remain…I want to know who your favourite is now, I’m intrigued!
      Thanks for the message.

Your hair always looks lovely and it’s short too which suits you. Everyone else is growing their hair long whether it suits them or not. But you do look terrific in the wig so why not just buy the wig and have the best of both worlds?

      Hi Patrica,
That’s quite a good idea actually…might do that!

Hi Jackie, your short hair really suits you, but agree that the darker blonde did warm your skin up and made you look healthier, younger and fresher – never a bad thing! Why not give it a try – it’s hair, and it will grow out if you don’t like it, and it’s fun to play around with hair! Just be prepared that you might – having been white blonde for so long and having a ‘fixed’ image of what you should look like – find it weird at first. Give it a go! :)

      Hi Jelena,
Yes I think I’m going to give it a go, next week! Might do it gradually though, might be too much of a shock all at once! Thanks for your feedback.
      Love Jx
