Holiday beauty must-haves

Suitcase bursting at the seams? Or one of those ‘hand luggage only’ flight deals that seemed such a good idea at the time?

Dying to get away without blowing the budget, we convince ourselves we’re the kind of people that can travel light, and for the most part we succeed – packing only one pair of sandals, two swimsuits and leaving four out of our five kaftans behind.

But then it comes to the beauty products and suddenly we go into full-blown panic mode. How are we supposed to fit make-up, skin and haircare, and sun protection into one of those teeny plastic bags? But why can’t I take five mascaras away for a weekend trip? (yep that was us)

So aside from sharing products with friends and begging your other half to take some of your hoard, whaddya going to do? Read on, that’s what.

We’ve put together a packing list (oh, you’re welcome) of small sizes, multi-taskers and holiday essentials – the ones to make room in your luggage for:

First things first – sun protection. And none so travel-friendly as Ultrasun. This SPF30 tube is both water and sweat-resistant, and only needs a once-a-day application (unless you’re spending all day everyday in the water, in which case apply a little more regularly).

This Liz Earle collection shot straight to the top of our list. The mini Cleanse & Polish makes it an instant must, while the Sheer Skin Tint is perfect for lightweight holiday coverage.

A multi-tasking moisture-rich essential that we can’t be without on holiday is Tarte’s Maracuja Oil. Not only does it give the complexion supreme hydration, it can also be used for cuitcles and the ends of hair, to hydrate and smooth flyaway ends. We like to keep it close at hand for the flight as well, to help ensure we don’t dry out from the alternative air-con and heat blasting out above us.

An easy (liquid-free we might add) option are these Decleor Aurabsolu Hydrogel Sheet Masks. Your skin will need some extra TLC from all the sudden extra sun exposure.

Be sure to pack Australian Bodycare’s Any Time Balm as moisturising aftercare for sun-soaked limbs – a little goes a long way!

Now we’re by no means suggesting you take all of these O&M beauties with you. But in streamlined, slim packaging you can if you wish! This set has a shampoo and condition from the Hydrate & Conquer range, plus conditioning masks which are great for sun-soaked hair.

Depending on your situ, you may want to consider taking along the Ego Trip mini hairdryer and straightener. While most hotels have hairdryers, in our experience it’s a bit of a haircare roulette. While some are perfectly adequate or pretty good, we’ve all had that sinking feeling when we see the little white hairdryer attached to the wall, along with the realisation that if we want to wash and dry our hair whilst on holiday, we’re going to have to put in some serious hours. The Ego Trip mini hairdryer is incredibly powerful (especially for something so small), while the straighters are just the right size for taming and tidying, or creating loose curls.

As far as holiday make-up goes, we’re all about the glow – This Benefit kit includes your bronzing essentials in miniature forms, plus a lip balm that doubles up as a gorgeous cheek stain. The lipgloss can work twice as hard as a highlighter and eye sheen, and the refuse-to-budge They’re Real Mascara is a pool must-have.

This Bareminerals palette is a handy, space-saving compact with neutral shades that will work for any instance – whether you’re beach-bound, exploring some city culture or propping up the pool bar.

So if you’re going hand luggage-only or simply want to make room for more, we make travelling light look like an absolute dream – no need to tell anyone you actually considered taking three blushers.

Oh wait, that was us again.
