- 30 years later – holiday pic recreated with one of my oldest pals!
- Excerpt of my new novel! As publishing date gets nearer!
- 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' – one of the best movies ever.
- And fab sneaky peeks!
IT’S MURDER, THIS MYSTERY!
Down Hall Country Club was the venue for a fun Murder Mystery Night Dinner last weekend – run by MoneyPenny Productions. The four actors all played their roles in between courses, sat at tables to be interrogated by diners and, coupled with clue-packed hand-outs on the tables, we had to work out whodunit, how and why!
I won’t say too much more, in case you go one day!
We came second out of six tables of twelve – only getting the reasoning slightly wrong. Very good entertainment though – lots of audience interaction and the MC, who also played Basil the posh secret service victim, was very funny – a bit like Basil Fawlty crossed with Kenneth Williams.
It was a Groupon voucher (or Living Social, can’t remember, or KGB deals or Wahanda or… you get the idea!) and very good value at £119 per couple for the whole thing incl overnight stay and breakfast. Down Hall is great too – up near Stansted airport. Look out for other vouchers! Lol.
And to find out where this particular cast are performing next, see @moneypennyprod or their website here.
Thirty Years Later – No Rain in Spain!
Thirty years ago it was! My first ‘foreign sun holiday’ with one of my best pals Gill in San Stefanos, Corfu in 1984. Now, three decades later, here we are away together again, and we recreated the pic taken in a bar – not quite as hot here in La Campana near Puerto Banus in Spain, but it was every bit as nice and probably nicer, a holiday.
Funny how friends come and go but Gilly is one of those friends who’s always been there, through all the ups and downs. Kids being born, growing, leaving home (and in some cases, coming back again!) and through my many iterations of men! Lol. She’s stayed happily married to the one guy whom she met on that very holiday, as it happens! Lucky girl!
I hear the rain apparently has returned in the UK, well if it makes you feel any better, here in Puerto Banus in Spain it’s been mostly warm but it did rain yesterday morning! So there was some rain in Spain, I just didn’t see it, 'cos I’m here to write once again, and don’t get up 'till nearly midday! Plus ca change!
We’ve had a nice few days being amongst the ‘locals’ rather than in a touristy area. Even though many here are Brits! We stayed in a villa belonging to friends of friends and apart from the new block going up right next door and the sounds of bricks being sawn up all day, it’s been a nice stay! I come home Saturday night late and am back on air Sunday afternoon (see below), so there’ll be more in next week’s blog. Have had to go to a wifi café to get signal so haven’t been online much.
But it always takes me a few days to relax – are you the same? Fortunately Gill and I know each other really well so she’s a fab holiday companion – no ‘settling in’ period! Once you get to know the layout of where the local restaurants and shops are and how to work the cooker and so on, something clicks.
The place many local Brits go is Los Farollilos which is a short walk away from our complex. The sea is a couple of km away and we’re up on the hill so there’s a fabulous breeze!
We also watched an interesting film – see Watch section below – where the main character says:
‘It’ll be alright in the end, and if it’s not all right, it’s not the end!’
Which film is that from? No cheating! Have a guess, then check my film review below to see if you’re right!

Book of the Week – the Fat Chance Cook Book by Dr Robert Lustig et al
If you read this blog regularly, you’ll know how long ago I raved about 'Sugar: The Bitter Truth' on YouTube by Dr Robert Lustig. His book about it, ‘Fat Chance – the Bitter Truth about Sugar’, has been a turning point for many people realising the extent to which what they put in their mouths may be causing issues in their bodies – and more importantly – why.
Now his new cookbook helps give ideas – especially for really basic and beginner cooks – great for students and ready-meals eaters everywhere.
Here’s one of the reviews –
“I saw the YouTube video by Robert Lustig and wanted more info and ended up buying this book. So glad I did. This gives an explanation of Robert's ideas on reducing refined carbohydrates and lots of info on the way of eating that he and the recipe's author Cindy follow. The premise is easy to follow: half your plate vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter carbohydrate/dairy.
I've been following this for a couple of months and have lots 10lbs without trying. I'm never hungry, not counting calories/points/units etc, yet I'm feeling better and losing weight. I've tried a couple of the recipes as written and adapted other favourites following the principles. Highly recommended :)”

BACK TO YOU – Big News!
How true is this saying – I’m a firm believer. And if you’ve read 'Biology of Belief' by Bruce Lipton (soooo worth reading!) you’ll know there are many things we believe about the body that are being disproved.
So, watch your self-talk and see if you can’t catch yourself saying ‘I always get a cold three times a year’ and try to change that!
There’s so much we CAN do about our health and a lot of it, as you’ll know from all these months of updates now, is to do with what steps we take to eat, sleep, meditate, breath, and hydrate well. There’s so much online now about such matters, if you just become aware of it, just be open-minded about it, you might see the results our girls on our B2U groups have been doing on Facebook.
I was reminded of the importance of self-talk whilst watching this week’s film review (see ‘Watch’ below) as the main character has such a superb catchphrase.
And to that end, we’re upping the stakes in our efforts to keep everyone focussed on the Back to You group with some big news.
Yes, an exciting new weekly live event on Facebook, as of mid-July. It’ll allow the regulars to chit-chat in livetime, new members to introduce themselves, and everyone can make recommendations to each other for things that work for them (no adverts, just personal stuff).
As promised, over on my Back to You blog from Monday (19th – ok, Wed 21st, since I was side-tracked by my birthday celebrations so blog was late this week!) there is full info about it all – in the run up to the show that started it all, Back to You, returning to QVC in September.
You can also read about National Veggie week – are you a pastafarian!? Plus, there's my take on how I get my skin ready for the sun, including with L-tyrosine.
Weekly Online Chat Night It’ll probably be on a Monday night (TBC – depending on which day of the week it will be, but am assuming it’s Monday). Go here to join. We do a Monday Update anyway, keeping track of any news members who are keen to share, or offering support to those who need it. It’s never a pity party though – the aim is to keep things up, optimistic, and determined. By and large, with some great results so far, it’s clearly working.
Come see us near Dorking on Sunday 29th June! And it’s not just a virtual support group! We’re now into the final push towards the deadline – just over a month to go till our Back to You group get together/ joint new book launch near Dorking on June 29th! Do come along!
Full info if you join our Back to You QVC Facebook group – see bottom of this blog for full info and details about the sister closed group Break the Habit BTU.
Over on B2U blog on debbieflint.com – my weekly Monday Update – this weeks included radicchio, L-Tyrosine, and National Veggie Week as well as more from our lovely girls on Facebook. Go here to read it all!
Back to You returns to QVC in September. See below for links to join the Facebook groups.
Hawaiian Glow! I've been asked about this teaser from last week, Laura Geller’s Tahitian Glow. It was supposed to be on the Saturday Night Show and appeared in Saturday's Today’s Special Value pack. But, many of you wanted the darker Hawaiian supersize, 205789.
Hayley, from the QVC Twitter team, says if it’s not showing on the website, just call to order – hope it works!
Antthony Laid Bare! The shows on Saturday with the lovely fashion guest and all round good guy, my pal from LA, were super and as entertaining as ever! If I can find you a blooper I will (hard from Spain!) – however, news is that the era of the ‘tache’ is over! As Facebookers know, he’s shaved it off! How long for, we don’t know! What’s your bet? Doesn’t he look handsome here in this sneaky pic?
This Week on QVC –
- OK so I’m back on air Sunday – 5pm is hi-tech incl this fab laptop from Acer with Lee then 6pm with Decleor and the lovely Fiona – looking forward to it! What a lovely way to come back on air with two of my fave guests!
As well as Liz’s TSV there are offers from:
Utan, Ultrasun, bareMinerals (in 6pm with Alison), Revitalash, Leighton Denny (with Julia and Jilly in the 9pm), Philosophy, Hayloft (with Craigy in the 10 and 11am), amongst many others – don’t miss it!
- Find out what else is on in our TV Guide
There's nothing like a Real Pie Company show to bring out the backstage crew! Charlie was not impressed he lost out on his snack!
Wonder if it was deliberate or a complete fluke! You’d have to mix it up before you drank it though, wouldn’t you!
My brothers’ girls are the youngest cousins – so far. Brother Derek is having his fifth in the autumn (yes really, but we are all one of five so it follows he’d do it too – and our Dad’s name was Derek!)
One of my pals took me to lunch once using these, as her job in the city provided her with 25p per day – Carol Blake on Facebook posted this pic as this one dropped out of an old book and it reminded me of how things were in the paper era – nowadays you’d just flash your smart phone to get your discount!
Can you leave me a comment below if you have a similar story about using them in the ‘old days’!?
Facebook funny – Ohhhh so true! And the same is true if you have a human toddler too, IMHO (in my humble opinion)! How much of a sucker am I for these little animal themed Facebook Funnies! Are you? Lol!
As mentioned above, it’s 'The Exotic Marigold Hotel' I was referring to with the quote about ‘it’ll be all right in the end’ – and it’s the fab film I saw again when away in Spain this week, so I thought I’d add it into ‘watch’ – especially since it ties in so nicely with the theme of Back to You this week too (above).
Victor the main character in the Indian Hotel always says:
‘It will all be alright in the end, and if it’s not all right, it’s not the end!’
I love that! Well, I would, being the eternal’ glass 99.99 recurring per cent full’ person!
Anyway, it’s well worth a watch as there are such SUPERB performances, and Bill Nighy steals your heart away as one of the oldies retiring to the Marigold hotel for the elderly and beautiful. Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, and Penelope Wilton are stellar, Celia Imrie is superb too – oh so many reasons – and an outstandingly funny script too! Hence 9.25/10 from me. One of the highest ever and one of my top films of all time!
