As someone who used to teach chocolate making skills, I have often been asked what I would recommend as quality chocolate. Of course I used to mention some of the international brands like Valhrona from France and Amedei from Italy, but when it came to a recommendation for a quality British chocolate I always suggested Montezuma, which is made in West Sussex and was started by husband and wife team Simon & Helen Pattinson.
They started their own little chocolate business in 2000 after a trip to South America the year before. Having worked as lawyers, they wanted a change of direction and had no plans to build a hugely successful business – they simply wanted to make chocolate with a philosophy of fair trade, quality, organic ingredients and an emphasis on substance over style.
For all of these reasons I am really pleased that we will finally have them on air on QVC this week (Thursday, 18th September at 6pm).
In the interests of research I, of course, had to sample some of the chocolate we will be showing on air and if you are a chocolate lover, believe me, you won’t want to miss this show!
There is a bar collection that has a 54% cocoa milk chocolate bar – so dark and bittersweet but creamy at the same time! There is a salty Sea Dog bar that is also dark chocolate with lime and sea salt, which really brings out the cocoa flavour. Let’s not forget Lordy Lord, which is a dark chocolate bar with cocoa nibs for those of you who like your chocolate with a dark edge to it! However you like it though, and whichever bar you taste, the one thing you will note is the quality as the organic cocoa solids melt into a silky smooth tasty texture on your tongue.
This first show on Thursday is only the beginning and I happen to know that there will be many more tasty treats awaiting us like Milk Chocolate Chilli Pecans and other assorted goodies.
I don’t know about you but I feel my sweet tooth calling. Time for chocolate I think!
Until next time,
