I am a huge Strictly Come Dancing fan and went last year to support Lulu and met Flavia. She is my favourite dancer on Strictly and, having been a dancer myself, you can just spot a dancer who has that special something. You are drawn in by her every move. She feels every beat in every muscle of her body right to the end of her toes and fingertips. She is just an incredible dancer. Vincent, her partner on Strictly Come Dancing, has you mesmorised too. So I was not surprised when they made it to the West End last week opening their own show 'Midnight Tango'.
She made her entrance in true style and her dress was perfect, showing every muscle to perfection. Lulu (pictured left) kept screaming at some of the lifts and I whispered in her ear "when do rehearsals start?"
Flavia's boyfriend (rather handsome) was gleaming with pride. Many of the Strictly dancers were there to support her amongst many other celebs for the opening night including Gloria Hunniford, Louie Spence, Russell Grant, Felicity Kendal, to name but a few.
We braced ourselves for the second half and could it really get any better. It was breathtaking. The moves got faster, the lifts unbelievable and without a doubt a couple who were not only born to dance but to dance together. They are truly sensational when they dance together. They dance as one. It could be something to do with the fact that they were once romantically linked. Whatever the special bond, I hope they never lose it.
After two hours it ended with a standing ovation and everyone wanting more. We left with such admiration for such a talent that they made look so easy.
During the final dance you could have heard a pin drop. I whispered to lulu "I have decided I am coming back as Flavia." She howled and with the distinct sound of Lulu it was very obvious where it came from.
Jill, who looks after Lulu's skincare range on qvc, and myself headed to the aftershow party and it was such a fun night. Jill is adorable and it was great to catch up and not talk work.
The venue had the most incredible chandeliers but far too big to fit in my handbag. It was great to see Flavia again as we got on great at Strictly. She looked stunning and everyone was so proud of her and Vincent. I bumped into Louie (Dancing on Ice judge, pictured left) who is fabulous. We have met before and both have fond memories our Pineapple Studio days. It was a huge part of my life as a dancer as it was the place we took class, did our auditions and caught up with all our dance colleagues. I think he is fab on Dancing on Ice and adds real flair and personality to the show. He is loving every moment of it. He is also a big QVC fan and we also met on another occassion doing Patsy Palmer's fitness DVD.
It was a great night and sadly had to come to an end.
I finally have the picture of Lulu and I that was taken when we worked together in 1987 in a Royal Variety Show at West End's Drury Lane. I managed to dig it out after my moving house was complete. I will show it in our next show, or try and get it scanned for my next blog.
