Memory Lane – Guess the Year!

Julia, Dylan and CharlieI spent a couple of hours yesterday looking for old Christmas photos, at the request of QVC, as they want to put them on a Christmas blog. I have loads of pictures, particularly from when the children were small, but therein lies the problem.

All the pictures I liked, Dan and Sophie kept saying "You're not sending that in!" So I am trying to unearth one that they don't mind me sending. They usually don't like the outfits they were wearing. "Why did you dress us like that?" they keep asking. They seem to forget I used to let them choose what they wore. Is it my fault they liked the Lion King and wanted to wear the clothing?? LOL

So I haven't found a suitable Christmas picture yet, but I did get distracted from my task as I always do when looking at old photos. I love taking a trip down memory lane and it almost always involves me reaching for a hankie!

On last week's blog, a lady named Karel was asking if I still had my cat Daisy as she had misheard a remark I made to Simon Wilson about having four cats. I have had four cats – Dylan, Charlie, Poppy and Daisy – but now only have Poppy. I came across this photo of me with Dylan and Charlie while I was on my Christmas photo hunt and I thought it might be fun to play 'Guess the Year'…

Enjoy a bit of Christmas shopping with us this weekend – with the slanket and L'Occitane TSVs I think we will be able to solve a few of your Christmas pressie headaches.

See you Sunday,
Julia x

Hi Julia, Blimey I’m no good at guessing years or people’s age so I’m saying nowt! lol! Tis a lovely picture of you and the two cats. You’re only a young girl in it but then you’re still young – saying that also cos I’ll be same age as you on Wed 26th. Oh I just love looking at old photos. I usually end up spending hours looking at them when I’m supposed to be decluttering. Every picture surely tells a story and after taking trips down memory lane the pics all get put away again and decluttering has been postphoned for yet another day. I’ve just purchased my slanket. My Son could’ve done with it tonight as he is queueing all night to get tickets for the Red Hot Chillie Peppers and it’s freezing cold and very windy outside brrr! so hope he gets them ok in the morn. I’ve just returned from taking him hot soup and a blanket – I was txted whilst nodding off into my night’s sleep. Things you do at 3 in the morn!! Looking forward to the L’Occitane TSV as I adore L’Occitane products. Purchsed some recently whilst in France but sadly had to leave them behind due to overweight baggage! Love to sweet Poppy. Coincidently I named my first dog ‘Dylan’ (long time ago), an adorable old english sheepdog.

    Hi Julia
Love the photo, the fringe really suits you and is quite reminiscent of my hair in the 90’s, although mine was permed with highlights and not at all natural like yours.
I think the year could be 1984?
Sorry to hear on your previous blog that you had hurt your hip a few weeks ago, there’s nothing more painful. I know that I have more movement in my right hip, than my left and my right leg is slightly longer too because trousers and jeans always come up shorter on that leg, no matter how much I pull them down!
Glad to hear your hip has got better, I don’t know where I’d be without Arnica Bath Soak and Gel!
Thank you for the mention yesterday, I had been cooking tea and tuned into QVC because I remembered you were on and it was nice of you to ask about the shoes and my situation. I will definitely think about them in the future, but maybe as a christmas/birthday present, or if they ever come on max easypays!
Hope you have a great weekend.

Hi Julia, just having a quick break from the heat (40 dgs)here in Egypt today, had a day at the beach yesterday, my htb loves snorkeling so he was happy, beautful fish out here and sharks no doubt but didn’t see any. lol. i’m quite happy to paddle about and sunbathe. Thought i would quickly check my emails and have a sneaky look to see what QVC are offering. Love the pink dress you had on sunday lunch time very pretty.I did manage to find a wedding dress, they say when you see the one you know it, so yes i’m very pleased, so it’s on order now, will have to go for fittings in the new year.Nice photo above, similair hairstyle to the one i had many many years ago.Lovely kitty’s too. Well time for a light snack and then back to my sunlounger i think. See you in November.

    Hi Julia
I also had four cats: Meggie – a gorgeous British Blue (nick named ‘Teddy’!), who sadly died at just six years old, Lizzie-Beth – British Blue-Cream (pedigree name, ‘Valpetina Venus in Blue Cream!) who lived to age 13, and I still have Suki-Pie – a seal point Ragdoll (gorgeous docile, loving girl) who is now the grand age of 18.5, and Casper – a lilac point Birman boy age 14.5. Needless to say, Suki-Pie sleeps most of the time now and loves to be carried upstairs every morning to sleep on our Tempur mattress! Casper is like my shadow. Ultra loving and needy! He insists on sitting on my chest when I’m doing the Aero Pilates warm-up exercises, and then sits at the side of the machine when I’m doing the others, trying his best to get back on my chest every time I do any of the laying down exercises! He’s an absolute darling.
Lovely photo of you and your darling boys, I’m going to guess the year as 1985 – though you really haven’t changed much!

    Hi Julia,
Lovely photograph, I would guess the year to be 1980/1982, it is difficult, as you never seem to change, always look good and your hair is beautiful. Love the cats, I am now down to two cats, as I have mentioned before both resue cats Marmaduke with only one eye, will never find out how he came to only have one eye as he turned up a few years ago and has stayed ever since, and then there is Guiness who has gone deaf. Have seven labradors and one border collie. Love my animals. The weekend on QVC was great, lovely things on, The L’occitane was great, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the Thorntons, especially Ali Young, mind you they are lovely chocolates. I had to laugh at what you said about Dan and Sophie and the photographs, my daughter Heidi often says when we find some pictures of her, you can get rid of that one for a start.

Hello Julia, my guess would be a bit earlier than everyone else late 70’s (1978). I too am a cat fan they are such characters and can be so funny. Don’t know about Xmas pressure I’ve bought some for me, Lulus neck cream just fab and OPI nail varnish.
Looking forward to the Kipling TSV in a couple of weeks I’m so addicted to these bags.
Yes sorry to hear you hurt your hip this is the downside of getting older the body starts to creak but the brain thinks you are still 21 but more wiser. Arnica is my favourite the bath soak is so good for aches and pains or just if you are feeling tired.
Look forward to seeing you at the weekend.

    Hi Helen
Hope you had a lovely birthday yesterday and that your son treated you to something special after your ‘mercy dash’ the other night!! ( sounds like he was more chilly than red hot! ) Which colour slanket did you go for?? I liked the pink and leopard, but was really hankering after the claret and blue …. my teams colours!
Did you get the L’Occitane TSV? – it was very popular.
I’m terrible with old photos ……. when I retire I will spend hours putting them in albums so that I can look at them all properly.

    Hi Annette
Like Steven you are VERY very close with your guess!
My right leg is slightly longer than my left too, but that is because of the polio. I have more movement in my left hip, and maybe that is what caused the problem, perhaps I hyper extended it somehow OR maybe it was my body telling me to slow down a bit!
I think the MBTs might be a good choice for you at a later date but check with your physio – Marjolein rates them! As you say they are a bit pricey though.

    Hi Kathy
Enjoy the rest of your holiday in the sun – it is definitely Autumn here now, although we have had some bright weather it’s nippy out of the sun.
I’m with you, would not go swimming anywhere near where there may be sharks lurking – happier swimming in a pool!
The dress was from Aftershock but I have had it for ages – had a few people ringing to ask if it was available on QVC.
Glad you’ve chosen your wedding dress – it will all come round so quickly now.

Like Martin you are spot on with your guess of 1985.
All my cats have been black and white ‘moggies’ except Daisy who was a tabby.
I had a good laugh at the thought of you doing your Pilates with Casper on your chest!! Maybe someone should remind Poppy that she is no longer a kitten – she is sixteen and a half and yet still goes hurtling up and down two flights of stairs and likes to ‘kill’ her pet mousey!

    Hi Joy
I love cats – they all have such different characters don’t they?
I hope hurting my hip is not the start of the slippery slope to aches and niggles! I think I maybe overdid the swimming on the last day of my holiday – I did 150 lengths at one stretch – my body may have been protesting!! The arnica gel helped a bit but rest was the best cure – it seems ok now ( fingers crossed )!
    The photo was from 1985.
Enjoy all your QVC goodies – I’m on with the Kipling TSV so looking forward to seeing that too

    Hi Chrissy
You weren’t far out – it was 1985. I like my hair darker too but as you get older it starts to look a bit ‘unnatural’ if you know what I mean! LOL
I have put on a couple of pounds because I wasn’t able to exercise with my hip but I’m intending to drop them again – hopefully.
I will always remember my cats, particularly Dylan, as he was my baby before I ever had children.

You are right, I am so pleased with Palace this season – whatever Dougie is doing in training certainly seems to be paying off! We have slipped to fourth in the table as West Ham won on Monday night and it is all very close between the middle and the top of the table.
Great result in the Carling Cup and really looking forward to the draw on Saturday for the quarter finals – I don’t know why, but I am thinking Man City…………. we’ll see.
    You were right with 1985
Hope you are still recovering well?

    Hi Julia
Perhaps you remember a couple of months ago I told you that I had lost my siamese cat Phoebe after almost 20 years. Well, a couple of weeks ago I brought home my two gorgeous traditional siamese kittens. I had spent a good few weeks trying to think of names – Betty, Suzy, Mabel, Gladys – the list was endless – but I finally decided to stick to Daisy and Poppy. Anyway, just a couple of days ago I read your “About Julia Roberts” for the first time and had a Victor Meldrew moment when I read your cats’ names – “I DON’T BELIEVE IT!!!” Anyway, my two little devils are keeping me on my toes and I love them to bits. Hope your mum is having fun with her kitten too and that your Poppy is well. You look lovely in the photograph by the way – all fresh faced and innocent …!!!
Hope you and your family are fit and well.
    Love Jan

Just so you know, I did reply to your message but it must have got lost in the system cos it never appeared.
Anyway, you were close on the year but not quite right – it was 1985.
I don’t use tongs on my hair since it is now so long – I find it easier to style with heated rollers.
Did you get the L’Occitane TSV on Sunday or did you manage to resist?

How funny that you have called them Poppy and Daisy, but here is a further coincidence ……… my Mum’s last cat was called Suzy, on your list of possibles!! Great minds and all that!
Thanks for the compliment – I was quite fresh faced but I’m not so sure about the innocent!!! LOL
