Sometimes in our jobs we are lucky enough to have moments that just make it a pleasure to come to work. Now, to be fair, every day for me at QVC is an absolute pleasure, but this morning I got to chat to the gentleman of pop, Ronan Keating, and hear him singing live from his new album, 'When Ronan met Burt'.
The busiest man in pop
Ronan has been running around a lot recently so we were really glad he could take time out of his busy schedule to come and see us. This new album was only recorded in January, he has just come off tour, and now he is doing the rounds promoting the album.
In two weeks time, he jets off to Australia to start shooting his new film 'Goddess.com', and later in the year he plans to swim the Irish Sea to raise money for charity. Richard Branson and a few other friends will be joining him along the way as it's a relay race.
To put the enormity of this task into perspective, the Irish Sea is 3 times as wide as the English Channel (56 miles) and has some treacherous currents. Plus, Ronan can only manage a few lengths of the swimming pool at the moment! Gulp!! Now that's a man who is dedicated to raising money for charity.
'When Ronan met Burt' is a concept album, filled to the brim with covers of some of Burt Bacharach's most famous standards. The musical arrangements are beautiful with full-bodied strings, jazz saxophone and elctric organ sounds all mixed in to give that nostalgic feel of the 60s and 70s.
Ronan brings a really fresh feel to some of the tracks with his incredible vocals and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. It's easy, uncomplicated music written by a legend and sung by a world class vocalist.
Trust me you'll be humming these tunes all day after listening to them, I know I have been.
