You may have seen our two tech experts Rebecca Perfect and Ella Williamson on-air on QVC over the past year or so, talking about all things techie! We thought it was time to get to know them a little better, so here they are…
What a fab year and a half I’ve had working with technology here at QVC. I’ve worked in the consumer technology industry for over 10 years now, starting my career as a Gadget and Gift Buyer. This saw me travel the world hunting for the next coolest consumer gadget and must-have gift – a job that the Buyers at QVC do particularly well. I’ve always been really passionate about great product and find it immensely satisfying discovering gadget gems that make life that bit simpler and smarter.
Within a couple of years of starting my career – the BBC caught wind of my product hunting and screen-tested me to be a Gadget Guru on their new magazine show on BBC2. I was chosen and to be honest have never looked back. I spent over five years as a Gadget Guru for the BBC and managed to juggle buying and writing about gadgets for women’s magazines at the same time. It was a major multi-tasking challenge but one I thrived on and loved every second of.
My quest for the latest and greatest gadgetry goes on and I continue to enjoy attending consumer tech trade fairs and writing for my blog and various publications about all things gadget and gift. Presenting technology is the pinnacle of my job – sharing the latest products on the market, telling you all about them and helping you decide if they are right for your lifestyle. I work with some amazing channels and brands – from QVC to ITV, BBC to Sky and brands like Samsung, BT, Philips and more.
Wearable tech is a hugely growing tech trend at the moment – and as a girly girl it is very important to me that my wearable tech looks good. So… one of my absolute favourite products of the last few months is the Knomo Knomad Portable Organiser with battery. Looking like a supremely stylish leather clutch bag that I can tout around with me from day to night and meeting to meeting – the Knomad will charge my iPad and my smartphone AT THE SAME time, whilst housing all my everyday bits and bobs like notepad, pen, cards, headphones and more in an extremely organised fashion. It looks great, it’s practical and it works like a dream for modern day living. I love it.
My husband Rob and I have recently bought our first ever house which is in the process of being renovated, and we are looking forward to moving in there in a few months’ time. I have never had a garden before so I keep casually hanging around Richard Jackson and hoping his expertise will rub off on me. Lawn Magic sounds like a garden must-have so I look forward to giving that a try in the new place.
The first few months of the year are known in the industry to be “trade fair season” – so February and March will see me scouting around for fabulous gadgets and gifts which I look forward to telling you all about soon.
Love Ella x
I’m Rebecca, one of your on-air tech experts. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know a little more about me!
Shall we start with my name? Well, I can promise you that my surname ‘Perfect’ is real, but very hard to live up to, even though I do try!
Next up are my passions, well, I wouldn’t be an on-air tech expert if I didn’t love everything from micro-gadgets that make your life easier day to day, through to those ground breaking pieces of technology which take everyone a step forward to becoming a smarter world. I’m sure all the on-air tech experts will agree that we just love the variety that QVC brings to you at home, and I feel very privileged to talk to you all about everything from handy pocket sized Jam speakers through to the amazing Sony Bravia Smart TV’s that give you an incredible viewing experience.
So how did I get into talking tech on the telly? Well, it actually all started at the movies. For a number of years I have lived out my other big passion, which is film, and have been lucky enough to present on the topic on lots of different shows, on TV, radio and online, including the BBC, ITV and Sky. What I’ve learnt over time is that as movies develop and change, so do our viewing habits; so I’ve talked extensively about how technology is changing cinema both for film makers and audiences alike. That’s everything from the cameras used to shoot the films, through to audiences moving towards 4DX cinemas and even one day using gaming devices such as Oculus Rift, to achieve a completely immersive experience.
I’ve also been lucky enough to work with some amazing brands, from O2 as one of their O2 Guru presenters online; to Microsoft as its ambassador for the Microsoft Band when it launched in the UK and last year I teamed up with Hewlett Packard at the Cannes Film Festival to film a Snapchat story all about how its technology is changing the way animators and film makers work.
I feel very lucky being able to bring my passion and expertise to all of you who watch QVC. I always think that technology should be exciting, fun and most importantly helpful, but definitely not daunting! So I can’t wait to bring you many more exciting products, big and small, that will either complete that smart home you’ve always dreamed of, or help you take your first steps towards tech with ease.
See you on air very soon!
