Meet my new best friend: Freddie Fitbit!

Meet my new best friend, Freddie Fitbit!

I don’t know why I feel the need to name my technology gadgets, but Fred sure has become a good pal over the last few weeks! Maybe I just wanted Sally Satnav to have a friend. Yes, I am slightly eccentric…

So back to Freddie. In June we launched a great Today’s Special Value offer, the Fitbit Alta. This is an activity and sleep tracker but does a lot more, besides. We offered such a super package that we couldn’t meet demand! We sold out of the days stock and then a backup of advanced order stock flew out, too! I’ve had the best of intentions to try one for ages but finally took the plunge and haven’t looked back.

I’ll start with some constructive feedback – the strap is a little stiff to begin with in terms of doing it up, but it does ease up after using it a few times. I understand how this could be frustrating, initially, but I wouldn’t let it put you off because it does quickly get easier and, for me, the benefits far outweigh the initial stiffness. Also, it’s designed to stay on when you’re active as well as when you may be tossing and turning in bed, so it has to be secure.

Onto the virtues..

For me, it’s all to do with awareness. I use the app so I can track everything on my iPhone but you don’t need to have the app on your phone, you can use your computer. I chose to use it on my phone as I’m on the go all the time. As I can now see my sleep patterns, weight on a chart, food consumed each day and calories burned, I have learnt more about my habits and so have made changes for the better.

For example, I don’t drink enough water. In fact, I was well below half of what I ought to be drinking each day. This is really important, not just for my wellbeing but for looking good, too! I always think about the money I spend on skincare and then I don’t hydrate from within! Well, I can add the water I drink on the app as I go and so I can see if I am close to my goal and then, if I meet it, Freddie gives me a little star. Cute!

I also love that I can add foods as I eat them and then I can see the amount of calories consumed versus those I’ve eaten. That means I become aware so I can burn off that naughty dessert by taking some more steps, or perhaps go on a short walk. It also means I’m less likely to reach for those things which will need a bit more working off so I’ll make healthier choices.

Another feature is that text messages come through on the Fitbit screen if you want them to. I have found this really handy because I don’t need to always have my phone out if I’m waiting for a message. I can be walking round the supermarket, pushing my trolley, without having to balance a phone, shopping list and steer my way round the usual obstacles. I can just glance down when I feel that gentle vibration on my wrist and see the message. It’s just a nice little addition that helps me out during the day.

For me, there is so much to love about the Fitbit Alta. My mum now wants one after I’ve been extolling the virtues, so I’ll be buying another one so we can both enjoy them together. You can actually set up challenges with other Fitbit owners so it helps to spur you on even more. As my mum will not be as active as I am we won’t have the same goals, so it’s not a direct competition against each other. We will be able to see each other’s progress and if we are falling a little short we could then nudge each other with an encouraging message.

It fits so nicely into my healthy regime. I follow Christianne Wolff’s Body Rescue Plan. Have a look at my previous blogs for more info on that. She will be returning to QVC soon so I’ll keep you informed about that when I know more.

I could go on and on about this Fitbit Alta but I won’t. Instead I’ll advise you to tune in at midnight on Wednesday when we will be giving everyone who missed out on the TSV last time the chance to get our fantastic 24 hour offer which includes an additional coloured strap.

Please feel free to get in touch and let me know if you love the Fitbit range, too. I have lots of friends who use them. Veronica, one of QVC’s floor managers, is the person who inspired me to get on board with it. She has lost so much weight and is looking really healthy! I’d love to hear your success stories.

Love Catherine xx

Hi Catherine, I brought the Fitbit Alta in June (when it was a TSV) as I was looking to get more active as I work in an office and I am sat down most of the day. The Fitbit motivates me to hit my goals every day, and do my 10,000 steps a day. I agree with you the strap was a bit stiff but after a few uses it became easier to do. If I am a bit low on my steps, if the weather is good I go for a walk around my village or walk around the outside of my house, if it is raining I walk around the inside of my house or when I am watching the TV I jog on the spot. I use the app on my Lenovo tablet so I can see my progress. I would say if you want to get fit GET A FITBIT

I bought mine when it was the TSV – I wear it 24/7 and it’s certainly made me walk much more. Feel much fitter in just these few weeks
