May’s Beauty Pick – Laura Geller’s Balance n Brighten

Laura Geller's Balance n Brighten - 204632For years, you have been asking Laura and me to bring her iconic Balance n Brighten in a Home and Away collection and, as we knew it would be so popular, and the best things are worth waiting for -we have finally managed to do it as a Product of the Month.

This means you get the added bonus of the free P&P but also fantastic value as the full size Balance n Brighten with the brush is normally £28 and in this collection, whilst stocks last, you have it for the same price, but also with a mini Balance n Brighten all in a great Laura Geller branded bag (pictured below).

Balance n Brighten is Laura Geller’s most famous product and for me, the one on that put her on the map, so it is a perfect product to start with if you are a new customer.

Laura Geller bagThe majority of existing viewers are pretty much already using it. Testimony to that are the 500 plus 5 star reviews that you can click on and read for yourself. But, why was I so impressed with it all those years ago and still so today? There is nothing else like it on the high street and also, don’t forget Laura Geller only retails through QVC in the UK so it’s a real artistry secret.

Balance n Brighten is a foundation, a colour corrector, a concealer and a finishing powder all in one. If you are a make-up novice, you will immediately grasp this explanation and want to use this product for its quick coverage and fool proof ease of application. If you are a make-up connoisseur, everything that you have experienced in the past will make you sceptical and think ‘how can this product do that?’

This is exactly how me and Sarah Jagger, Laura’s second in command, and a current top British make-up artist thought the first time we tried it. Yet, the genius of the product is that it looks like a powder but it goes on like a smooth cream. It does this by starting its life as different mousse pigments mixed with botanicals and pore refining, smoothing agents. These individual pigment colours, some used for cover some used for colour correction, are swirled together into a flat pan and then baked.

Laura Geller's Balance n Brighten - 226495The baking process sets the liquid, mousse texture into what appears to be a solid powder and this is how you then use it – from the compact which is really easy to do on the go with a brush. When you swirl the brush into the compact you are picking up the creamy mousse which is reactivated when it is smoothed onto your skin and gives the coverage of a liquid but the ease of application of a powder and the convenience of a compact.

The product is quite genius, almost fool proof and makes skin look like better skin, not made-up skin. Your face can look so good that men can use it and non-make-up wearers. It has great problem solving properties, in that no matter what your skin condition, it doesn’t break up on the surface or crack or show wrinkles because ultimately it was originally a creamy texture.

With the summer months coming up it is fantastically economical and durable to travel with as it really is high quality and stands up to the vigours of the make-up bag, handbag and holiday bag. The only choice you have to make is which colour shade and you don’t have to make an exact match, remember, because each option covers four or five different foundation shades because of the blended colour tones that you can clearly see in the compact. It is very intuitive and will adapt to your personal tone.

You can’t do anything wrong with it and it will blend in just as easily to an advanced skincare regime as it will to a basic skincare regime. Obviously it works fantastically with a primer but for ease of use it also works fine without. It doesn’t cause spots or over stimulate the skin. The brush is synthetic so therefore, doesn’t hold bacteria. My recommendation would be to wash the brush once a week in your shampoo as you know you are not allergic to this.

You can put either a fine layer on or go up to full coverage and spot cover by applying more product or dabbing the brush with a shortened brush head onto an area that needs full cover. You can also layer it up if you want to with liquids or bb creams etc. underneath and for wedding make-up or special occasions, whether a beginner or advanced, the texture doesn’t break up on your skin so its long wearing.

With QVC’s 30 day money back guarantee, this is how Laura has developed her cult following, including make-up artists like Sarah, because you get a chance to prove its performance to yourself.

Balance and Brighten is superb. I wouldn’t be without it, I use it every day, on it’s own and also on top of foundation if I want to, it’s so versatile. I’ve snapped this duo up, as it’s at a terrific price for the B&B and brush, and also for the travel size to put in my bag. A true hero product. Thanks Laura and Alison for bringing it to QVC.

I am a huge fan of Laura Geller Balance & Brighten, in fact I’m a huge fan of Laura Geller fullstop! Please please please bring more LG to QVC as it sells out so quickly and there is no where else you can buy it in the UK. I also really love the waterproof spackle hues but they sell out even quicker than the B&B. Please QVC bring more stock and more colours to the UK.

    Hi Alison
I am a fan of brighten and balance and have lately managed to use the brush better to give more coverage if needed. My son is getting married at the end of September. I use a combination at the moment of Laura Gellar makeup and Mally. Use primer on face and eyes. Any tips for lasting make up for the day -staying at venue for 2 night so will have chance to re-do later in the day. Thinking of the photos and want to look natural not “caked” but not as if not wearing any as tends to happen whenever I am photographed. Mind you I avoid cameras like the plague!!!
Many thanks from a very anxious Mum

    Hi Alison
I started using Elemis products about 18months to 2 years ago and I love them. Previously I used high street brand cleansers and toners and, at almost 70 years of age, I have noticed a huge difference in my skin since using Elemis. I have always looked quite young for my age but now people seem very surprised when they realise how old I am.
I love the multi-product deals that QVC offer, especially the TSVs, and always try to take advantage of them and really like all of the products. However, I find that most of the products last much longer than the face creams. I wonder whether QVC might consider a TSV or Hot Pick of large size face cream duos, eg 2 x 50ml Pro-collagen Oxygenating Night Cream or 2 x 50ml Pro-collagen Marine Cream. Duos such as this would balance out use of the other wonderful multi-product deals that QVC offers.
