Meet last year’s Breast Cancer Care model Mark Doel

Mark on the CatwalkWe're getting excited about the upcoming Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show which is returning for its 16th year in London this October. The Show will be held at the luxurious Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Wednesday 3rd October.

Each year, Breast Cancer Care selects a group of models to take to the catwalk and show off new collections from top designers to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

We have caught up with last year's model, Mark Doel, to find out what he's been up to since last year's show.

How has Breast Cancer Care helped you and your family?

Just by being there. I tend to use online tools more than face to face but since being part of The Show I have kept in touch with members of the team and of course with the other models. It's been great as these are people who have experienced the same emotions that I have.

How were you chosen to be a model last year and how did you find it?

I was actually told about The Show after I spoke at a Hospital Awareness seminar where one of the team was a guest speaker. She convinced me that I should apply and sent me all of the forms. I wasn't really sure of what was going on but I was told to come along and see and the next thing I knew, I was a model!!

What were your favourite parts of The Show last year?

The reaction from the audience when I first walked out as I was scared to death. Seeing my kids watch me during the rehearsals and also my wife and family at the evening show. And then finally walking down the runway with Alex opening the Women in Red scene as she is such an inspiration.

What have you been up to since the last show?

I have completed the London to Brighton cycle ride again, formed a charitable organisation that helps kids in sports (currently tennis, and basically got back to everyday life as best I can.

Will you be involved in this year's show?

No, I'm not involved in The Show although at this year’s casting day, I came along to offer support to the two male models. I even offered to be a stand in as I would love to do it again.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

Unfortunately I cannot attend The Show this year as it clashes with another commitment but I will be there in spirit and wish all the models the best of luck. I hope that the show is huge and everyone enjoys it as much as we did.
