Making my bed to lie in it!!

I'm sorry I missed Fashion on Friday again last week but I was at a wedding with my daughter. One of the girls that she was in 'Addictive Girlz' with a couple of years ago was getting married and as she had stayed at our house a few times when they were rehearsing, I was invited too.

Alix looked stunning on her big day. The dress was gorgeous and her bridesmaids were in a beautiful shade of sage green satin. There was a slight delay to the start of the ceremony, about forty minutes actually, as Alix had forgotten her bouquet!!!! She managed to 'dodge' the rain showers for the ceremony and the photos which was lucky, as apparently the previous day had been torrential rain.

Sophie and I drove north after I finished work on Thursday evening. We were doing reasonably well until we hit a total standstill for an hour on the M40 due to an accident. It meant we were very late getting to the hotel we had booked into for our overnight stay. I won't name the hotel for the reasons you are about to read.

We'd booked a twin/family room. We got to the room and there was only a double bed. I spoke to reception and a few minutes later they arrived at the door and handed me the bedding to make up my own 'sofa bed'. Next morning I made a coffee for Sophie using the long life milk pots and the milk was sour! I didn't realise those little pots could go out of date and obviously neither did the hotel staff.

Even the breakfast we had ordered was delivered to the wrong room! Needless to say we won't be staying there again! I wonder if any of you have had similar experiences? Please don't name names if you are going to respond to that question LOL!

Do remember to watch on Wednesday night at 7pm for the highlight of QVC's year, the annual BCC fundraiser. Once again a lot of our suppliers have done 'special' items for the event. The only one I have seen so far is the Butler and Wilson pin which is seriously cute – you won't want to miss it. I'm not there for the event this year but I will see you on Thursday when Dennis Basso is back in town.

Hope to see you then

Blimey Julia, I can see why you wouldn’t want to stay there again. Long life milk ……’s soooooooooo horrible isn’t it! Don’t think I would have noticed it being sour!!!! The hotel next to QVC I stayed in for the Elemis show was fab. And, I know, I was a right plonker not going in to say Hi to Simon! Will be tuned in on Wednesday night as I love the BCC event. I’ve promised Dale that I will double my planned donation if he blows me a kiss and shows me his knees on air. Watch this space, lol!

    Hi Julia
Yes my daughter and I had a similar experience at a hotel in Watford Gap on our way to a Show and London shopping weekend, we arrived at the hotel, my daughter went to have a shower, it didn’t work, i made a cup of tea and our milk was sour too, we then had to re-pack and move to another room which given we only had a short time before getting back on the coach to go into London for the show, made us rush. Next morning we had to queue for 30 minutes for self serve breakfast as they were short of tables due to refurbishment in the dining room. Needless to say we won’t be staying there again either! Hi Julia,
What an awful experience you both had with the Hotel, to have to make up your own bed, and the thought of the milk puts you right off, and then the issue with the breakfast, I cannot see why you will not be going back there, only joking. I hope you asked for a refund on the cost of the room. Glad the wedding was okay, it sounds as if you and Sophie had a good time. Yes I will be watching the BCC fundraiser on Wednesday evening, such a good cause.
    Love Jean XX

    Hi Helen
Sorry you had such a rotten experience too. The thing that bugs me is what overseas visitors must think of us when they have this sort of problem!! Hardly a good advert is it?
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your London weekend though

    Hello Jean
No I didn’t ask for a refund but I did get an email from the company asking me on a scale of 1 – 10 if I would recommend their hotel to a friend! What do you think I rated it as????
Enjoy BCC tonight but be quick if you want to buy anything

    Hi Marian
Trust me you would have noticed the milk was sour – it smelled disgusting and had formed little blobs on the top of Sophie’s coffee UGH!!
We will miss the occasional stay at the Pestana when we move to Chiswick next year – we once had to stay in a junior suite cos that was all that was available ……… very nice!
Enjoy BCC tonight – I’m sure Dale will flash you his knees, maybe he could borrow one of Simon’s kilts?!? LOL

    Hi again Julia
Yes thanks we had a fabulous show (Dirty Dancing) and a lovely meal before the show and then a great day on the Sunday shopping in Oxford Street. We tried not to let the hotel problem spoil the rest of our fun.

    Hi Julia
You sound as if you enjoyed your hotel stay(not!!) and i’m not surprised after reading what the stay was like. Have you ever caught the Channel 4 programme “Three(or sometimes Four) in a bed” – the programme is about 3 or 4 B&B owners competing against each other for the title “Best B&B” – now – this has opened my eyes to all the little tricks that can be used in such circumstances – there are some absolutely lovely places but some, lets say, not so lovely(and the owners think they are!!).I know my first morning coffee(the only one of the day)is so important to how my day goes that you and Sophie must have been so disappointed(to say it politely!!)that the milk was sour. I loved(as always) the QVC BCC event – i was absolutely gobsmacked(to say the least) when Ali K read out my name as one of Ali’s Army(i’m so proud and honoured to be one of her pink soldiersxx)-i’ve already left her and the rest of the army a messagexx Now – shopping – yes i can confirm that a lot of telly shopping went on in my house last night!! I managed to solve some Chrissie pressie dilemmas and treat myself(of course!!) to a few items including the B&W heart brooch(love love it) and Leighton and Kelly H’s t-shirts – i’m looking forward to receiving them. Asda(there are many other supermarkets in Britain!!) have about five BCC t-shirts available to buy and many other clothes and household items which when we buy them a donation is made to BCC – well worth a look. Look after yourself Juliax and speak on your next blogx Love Linda,Glasgow

    Hi Julia,
I think we’d have just both slept in the bed! Have done before lol! I wouldn’t fancy the off milk – yes been there too though! How come you’re moving again next year by the way??? Thought you’d not long moved? Is it coz of the glass bathroom door lol?! Nooo I’d hate that too! I don’t want to see anyone on the loo lol!! I loved BCC last night too like the others. Best night ever I’d say! Maybe Amika can make it next year.
    Take care

    Hi Linda
It was only Sophie who suffered the dodgy milk – I drink my coffee black! I only have a couple of mugs a day so the one in the morning is sooooo important! I haven’t seen the B & B programme you are referring to but Sophie has – she says it’s addictive!
I am so pleased everything went so well on BCC night – I think Ali must be an inspiration to so many ladies dealing with the same thing – I’m very proud of her and the way she has dealt with this horrible experience that life has thrust upon her. We are all looking forward to her coming ‘home’ to us.
Glad you liked the B & W pin – I thought you would

Normally Sophie and I would have shared but as she was still tender after her operation I didn’t want to whack her in the night by accident.
It’s QVC who are moving to Chiswick next year not me although we will be on the move again as it is too much of a journey from where I currently live.
You can’t see through frosted glass …… honestly!
    Glad you enjoyed BCC

I don’t like the thought of your outline even being seen on the loo lol! Or someone elses! I didn’t know QVC were moving. Or you would be on the move again. Never a dull moment!
Have a nice weekend. Just saw Anne with Ouida and realised where Anne’s stunning black top is from!! She looks like a glamour puss in it!

Hi Julia, I have to tell you about the worst hotel ever! – I won’t name names but it is in Oxford. Having not had a night away for almost five years, as I have been caring for my poorly Mother 24/7, we were so looking forward to an overnight stay as my best friend’s daughter was getting married, anyway, we arrived with very little time to spare as the traffic was terrible, when we arrived the proprieter actually snatched the money out of my husband’s hand BEFORE he would show us the room, which was unbelievably terrible and rude, anyway, inside the room – the ensuite was a tiny cupboard with NO door let alone a frosted one! it was flithy and I could not even bring myself to sit down! not to mention the bed, also he took us through the kitchens to our room (very strange) and they looked disgusting, both my husband and I decided we would probably get food poisioning! then we asked the “hotel” to call us a taxi to go to the wedding and they didn’t do so, so of course we were late, what a nightmare, but to top it all as I came down the stairs in all my finery to wait for the taxi we called ourselves my slip feel down – I had to laugh! it was a bit like a black comedy!
I try to see the funny side of things as life is not easy and I believe we have to make the best of things, but I think that has to be the worst hotel ever! we decided to cut our losses in the end and not stay, instead we drove home and were so glad to get back to our own beds at 2am!

    Hi Trisha-Ann
What a shame that such a disgusting hotel spoilt your chance of a bit of ‘you’ time away from home. I don’t think I could have stayed there either by the sound of things. It’s funny, untidy I can cope with, my dressing room is testament to that, but dirty definitely no! I think you made the right decision to drive home, just annoying that you had already paid.
    Love to your mum

    I must have been lucky.
I stay on a fairly regular basis in an old B&b in a suffolk village.
True the bedroom is on a slant, and I find I sleep better with my head travelling towards the wall. The bath & toilet is down a long passage & two stairs. But the welcome is very good, they are an elderly couple. I believe the lady is in her nineties. However, we are given full jugs of fresh milk for out Tea.
Thanks for all your advise, and the lovely way you present the goods on Q.V.C. It must be quite hard work to keep the conversation going at times, but then you are a Professional.

    Hello Di
I am wondering how the appointment at the hospital went – when does Dave have to have his next operation – I will be thinking of you both.
Ali looked really well at the BCC event and her speech was just the right blend of humour to counter balance the trajedy of her situation.
A shame that the L’Occitane TSV wasn’t quite right for your Mum’s Christmas pressie but there are more L’Occitane shows coming up before Christmas so fingers crossed.
Sending you both a great deal of love

Thanks for all your lovely compliments and glad you enjoy my presentations on QVC.
I think you have hit the nail on the head – your B & B is independantly run by people who care rather than a commercial chain ……….. doesn’t always work though, so yes you are lucky to have found somewhere you enjoy. My Mum and Dad used to enjoy staying in Southwold, is it anywhere near there??
