In honour of QVC's 20th birthday, we invited Amber Graafland, the faashion director for The Daily Mirror, to share her her pick of QVC's handbag selection. She also revealed why she loves shopping with QVC…
What do you like most about QVC as a retailer?
"I like the variety on QVC as there are so many brands; you can find anything your little heart desires. I think the prices are incredible and you can choose from some really affordable ranges right through to more expensive designer labels.
"I also think the QVC customer comes back for more because they trust the brand and the people behind it who talk passionately about their collections – this is really important for the shopper."
What were you looking for when you chose your favourite handbags?
"I love a handbag and for me a good bag can really make or break an outfit – a key fashion accessory! This season it's all about prints and bold brights, which influenced my selection, but I’ve also selected handbag styles that I love.
"Every girl should have a practical shopper in their life, I especially love the bright ones I've chosen as they really make a statement for the summer. A stylish clutch is also a must have, and as I’m a huge Lulu Guinness fan I couldn’t resist the little stripe Fifi clutch which will look great with everything from jeans and a simple t-shirt to an evening dress.
"Metallic is another big trend for the summer and a beautiful gold bag is an essential this season. Another thing that caught my eye were the pom poms on The Sak bag, they are such a great idea and lots of fun."
What are your top tips for selecting the right product to suit you and your needs?
"I can get carried away really easily so, if I am buying anything expensive, I always play it safe and ask myself the important question – “will I still love this in five years' time?” This makes me think carefully about my purchases.
"With fashion accessories I try to have fun as they can easily update your look/wardrobe without having to splash out too much. But if I’m spending a bit more on an everyday fashion accessory, like a handbag, I will always see this as an investment by breaking it down to cost per wear, so it doesn’t seem that bad!"
What do you look for most in a new purchase?
"I always invest in my essentials as these are the products that I need every day so quality is always key. For example, with my house I have invested in the key essentials but have had more fun with other decorative furnishing products.
"For fashion I always invest in good quality jeans, shoes and handbags – these are my staple wardrobe items and the rest is just window dressing, so cheaper really is cheerful. Another thing I never scrimp on is foundation, if you get this right everything else falls into place so it's worth splashing out."
