Lunch dates, Diamonique and summer food

Inside QVC

It’s been a busy week as always at QVC, it’s Accessories Month so there are a lot of fabulous collections coming through the studios. Jewellery, shoes and handbags galore! More of that in a bit though as we shook things up a bit at the weekend with the Get Gorgeous event, did you watch any of it? We had the best of fashion, make-up and jewellery that we have to offer. The best and biggest brands and lots of great offers, I hope you took advantage of them?

We had a fantastic Today’s Special Value from Benefit Cosmetics too, let me know if you got it and it’s arrived. What do you think of the mascaras? Have you tried all three of them yet? My favourite Benefit mascara has always been Roller Lash, but I finally got to try BADgal Bang too and really liked it. There’s definitely a different mascara for all occasions! The dress I am wearing is from Ghost and it’s my latest favourite!

Outside of QVC

This week I had a really lovely treat with my friend Rhiannon. She was asked to review Brasserie Blanc at the Marriott in Bournemouth, which is a Raymond Blanc restaurant and I got to be her lunch date for the day! Nice eh? I was even child-free for this one which, as much as I love my girls, is a real treat every now and then!

The sun was shining so we sat on the patio overlooking the sea and we had the nicest lunch. I had the asparagus and poached egg special to start with followed by the fish curry. Wow were they beautiful to look at but also soooooooo good. Rhiannon had vegetable summer rolls and then the most incredible main course of cuttle fish. I’ve never seen this before and it’s quite a sight. It tastes a bit like squid, quite a firm meat, fresh and beautiful. For pudding we had a chocolate mousse cup and a pistachio soufflé.

The best bit was being able to have a really good catch up with Rhiannon though as a nice mid-week treat and a chance to relax a little in between the juggle of work and motherhood. You have to take time to stop every now and then and do something for yourself don’t you?

What I’m wearing

I want to tell you about the outfit I wore to our lunch because I just love a pleated skirt and you may already know I also love Helene Berman! This ivory skirt is so elegant, and it can be styled in lots of different ways. In winter I would wear this with a chunky oversize jumper but at the moment as you can see I went for a summer bright yellow long sleeve T to keep it fresh. I mixed in a black belt and I also wore my favourite leather biker jacket.

The finishing piece however was in the form of the most incredible ring from Diamonique. I think this is going to be one of our most popular rings at QVC for the fact that it may remind you of a very well-known engagement ring that we will be seeing a lot more of in the press this coming weekend. It’s a whopping 4ct of simulated diamonds on sterling silver and your choice of rhodium or yellow gold plating. I chose the yellow gold. I have had had soooo many comments on it this week and my mum is planning to order one too. I also can’t get over the price!

I am still in holiday planning mode as we are off to Gran Canaria really soon so I am keeping an eye out for a few more pieces of jewellery to take with me. I ordered these earrings last week and I think they are just perfect for summer. I don’t have to tell you how big tassels are in fashion right now. The question is where to you wear yours?!! On your bags, clothes or jewellery? As you can see I’m going for earrings, these are The Fan Tassel Turquoise & Gold Tone Earrings and I can’t wait to wear them on holiday. We also do them in black but I thought the turquoise was more of a summer colour. They go so well with the next piece I want to tell you about. It’s from Lola Rose and it’s the Alexina Semi Precious 3 strand bracelet, this one is in Azure Blue. Now it’s not often I will tell you NOT to buy something just yet. I say this because it is going to be coming your way at a rather special price on the 19th May. So if you like this, set your reminders for then and check it out online or catch it on air!

What I’m using in beauty

I’ve been trying out something else that’s coming your way soon on QVC. It’s the Coconut and Plumerina Shimmer Skincare Gel, it’s a duo which comes with the most amazing shower cream that also smells like coconuts and summer, but I particularly wanted to talk about the gel as I’m really loving this as my daytime body moisturiser. I have a bit more colour in my arms thanks to the sun but mainly fake tan! So a little shimmer really is gorgeous on my skin. It’s not a glitter so don’t panic that you’ll look like a disco ball, it’s very subtle, I tried to take a picture but it wouldn’t show up enough to show you but do keep an eye out for it as the gels are soooooo good in the summer as they are very cooling.

What I’m cooking

French Beans, Pomegranate and Feta and Turmeric and Rosemary Potatoes

Both these dishes are the perfect accompaniment to summer dining, particularly BBQs! BBQs can get very repetitive if you don’t shake things up a bit don’t you think? So rather than the same old salad I like to try different side dishes.

First up it’s the French beans…

I used to packets of trimmed French beans and steamed then until they had softened just a little. 5-6 minutes should be fine as they can get squishy very quickly! I then leave them to cool in the dish that I will serve them in. Once cooled I then crumble feta all over them followed by a packet of pomegranate seeds. I then pour over a little olive oil and then a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. That’s it; so quick, so easy, sooooo good. The pomegranate and feta together is amazing!

For the potatoes I use one bag of new potatoes which I steam for about 10 minutes. I then put them in an ovenproof dish and cover in olive oil and rock salt. I then shake turmeric all over them, this not only adds amazing colour but a subtle and beautiful flavour. Turmeric has long thought to have health benefits too – I try to use it a lot in my cooking. I then sprinkle with chopped rosemary – fresh is better but dry is great too. These then go in the oven on 180 for about 25 minutes.

So what’s new with you? Do let me know and as always keep up with me on InstagramFacebook and Twitter.

Love Katy x

Hi Katy, you’re a great cook and I love using your recipes. You look lovely as usual, and I would really love to be eating the food Rhiannon and yourself had. At least the sun is shining up here in South Yorkshire today, even if it is minus the food!
