Life’s a Beach and Then… On Tour!

27

Just a quick blog this week as I am officially on annual leave and will be back next Thursday for the Nina Leonard Today’s Special Value offer.

Well, having failed to make it to Wales two weekends ago, I was determined to spend a few days with Daniel in Swansea before the summer is over. I arrived on Tuesday afternoon in glorious sunshine. Wednesday was not so nice, although I did see a girl punting down the River Tawe, which runs outside Daniel’s flat, in her bikini (wasn’t quick enough with the camera I’m afraid). Yesterday, however, was glorious.

We went for a walk on the beach at Port Eynon, a bit blustery but lovely, and then had our lunch at the Bay Bistro overlooking Rhossili Bay. They have some lovely vegetarian choices there and we both opted for carrot, cumin & honey soup with olive bread…. delicious! We were in two minds whether to go down to the beach for another walk but in the end decided to go for it. It was a long way down and I was fearful for the climb back up. It’s a gorgeous beach but again I wish I’d had my camera as two of the biggest jellyfish I have ever seen were washed up on the shore… Eek! The climb back up was as bad as I had feared so we treated ourselves with a Joe’s ice-cream in Mumbles on the way home. It was a lovely day out and so nice to spend time with Daniel on his day off.

This picture was taken earlier in the year when the weather was much worse of course!

Today is not quite so nice but I have just enjoyed a coffee at Morgan’s Hotel with a friend of mine who works for ITV Wales. She has just returned from her holiday in Marbella where she read my book. It’s always a bit nerve wracking waiting for a comment about your work from people you know, particularly as she is a journalist, but she really liked it and was trying to get information about the sequel, which I have been working on whilst Dan has been at work! I then heard today, on last week’s blog, from Pat who has just been reading my book on holiday in Cyprus and also had this picture sent to me on Facebook from Liz who is in Bali! Life’s a Beach and Then… really is ‘On Tour’!

I have been slow in organising my book signing, ‘Cream Tea and Me’ tour, for which I apologise. However, depending on interest, I can announce that I am hoping the first one will be here in Swansea on Friday 23rd October at Morgan’s Hotel. There will be two different ticket prices, £25 which will include a copy of the book if you haven’t already bought one, and £16 without the book, if you just want to bring your copy along to be personally signed, and enjoy a cream tea with me. Please send me a reply on here if you are interested in attending, and I will let you know how to reserve your place via email. All the profits from the day will go to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (now known as Bloodwise).

Incidentally, if you are on the waitlist for my book via the QVC website, the new stock is due in next week – item number 705211.

Right, I need to get back to writing the sequel. Have a great weekend – Elemis Today’s Special Value offer tomorrow with a fab new neck product.

Much love

Julia xx

      Hello Teresa
I really enjoyed my time off even though much of it was spent in front of the computer – I’m on 70,000 words now so almost there. I’m so pleased you are looking forward to the new book.
      Love

    Hi Julia,
Glad to see you had some nice weather for your recent visit to us in Wales. We have had some really glorious days this week. As I am writing however , the rain has started! Still it was nice while it lasted. It started out really sunny on Tuesday as we headed for our usual favourite place for fish and chips (Porthcawl), but by the time we got there it had clouded over and turned really chilly. It was more like November than September. I couldn’t believe it especially as I had decided to wear one of my dresses that I hadn’t worn much because we hadn’t had the weather for it ! My legs were freezing as we headed back to the car instead of sitting outside for our usual coffee.
We used to visit Port Eynon quite a lot when I was a child. We had our Sunday School trips there and we also went caravanning there too. I remember seeing a lot of jelly fish there then as well. This year there have been record sightings of really large jelly fish. There were photo’s of them in my local evening paper. They look quite horrible.
It would be really great if you did hold your book signing at Morgans Hotel and I would definitely be there. We were near by last week as I had to renew my car insurance which is in Swansea. So whenever we go to Swansea I park down the Marina. So you have 2 people that would come. ( Although my husband might have to be persuaded as he’s shy!!)
Well let’s hope we see some more of the nice weather next week. Winter will be long enough.
Enjoy your time off. (Fashion on Friday wasn’t the same without you though.)
    Best wishes Tina. x

      Hi Tina
It was so good to finally be able to walk along the beautiful Gower beaches in sunshine although I was surprised to see people in the sea… definitely not warm enough for me! The jelly fish we saw were at least a foot across so there’s another reason I won’t be going in the sea!
Great news that you would like to come for tea at Morgan’s – I’ve had some interest but really need about thirty people to go ahead – I’ll keep you posted.
Really rainy this week back in Berkshire – at least I didn’t mind being stuck indoors writing
      Speak soon

Good to see you had a great time with your son in Swansea. It’s always good spending time with your children. Are you doing any book signings in Manchester? Please let me know if you are. Thanks take care Sue xx

      Hi Sue
We are a very close family and I’m taking advantage of spending time with my children before they have significant others, if you know what I mean.
I am hoping to organise something in Liverpool if that would be any good for you? The reason Swansea has come up first is because I am doing a charity function for British Polio the day before in Cardiff so I’ll already be in the vicinity.
      Love

Hello Julia . Love reading your blog. Make sure you have your cream tea the Devon way (cream first then jam on top). Love from Iris

      Hi Iris,
Lovely to hear from you on here and to discover you read my blog – thank you.
I think I prefer my scones the Devon way – cream first (not that I have cream often as I don’t have much dairy in my diet).
      Speak on here again soon

Hi Julia, Ive always enjoyed reading your blogs, but of late they have become a platform topush your books and this I find rather irritating ! By all means have another string to your bow, and try your hand at writing, but please dont use your popularity at qvc to further your career in writing.

    • Tina S September 17, 2015 at 9:30 am -  Reply

I agree with Gail, how rude you are Glenis! When I was growing up I was taught “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all! ” The proceeds of these events and a percentage of the sales of the books are going to a very worthy cause in Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Shame on you.

    • Julia Roberts September 18, 2015 at 11:07 am -  Reply

      Hi Glenis
I’m sorry if you feel I have been talking about my book too much on here. Our blogs are meant to be about both our work on QVC and our home life and as the book is a QVC product it slots into both categories.
I do try to vary my blogs and write about the cats, my family, recipes, gardening, decorating and my charity work but of late a lot of my time has been spent writing so I guess that has featured prominently on my blog.
I hope you will still check in from time to time

How rude are you Glenis. I hope you got a refund from Charm School. I find your comments irritating and very, very rude. Keep your nasty comments to yourself; I’m sure no-one on here wants to hear them.

Sorry Julia forgot when I replied the book signing is the.morgans hotel in Swansea I would like to attend. The charity leukaemia and lymphoma fund is close to my heart , because sadly I lost my husband in March this year, he had non Hopkins lymphoma. I hope there will be some interest , I would like to reserve two tickets . many thanks.

      Hello Mary
I hadn’t read this when I replied above. I am so very sorry for your loss. One of the reasons I wanted to donate a percentage of my profits to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is to help them raise awareness of the symptoms of the different blood cancers. I was so lucky mine was detected during a routine health check.
As you are so aware too many people are still losing their lives to blood cancer – more each year than breast cancer. Every little bit we can do to support the charity helps.
I hope you are coping ok and hopefully we will meet for tea in Swansea on the 23rd October
      Much love

      Hello Mary
I’m really sorry but the event at Morgan’s on the 23rd October won’t be on – two few people I’m afraid BUT maybe a group of us could just meet up at Morgan’s in November perhaps – I hate letting people down

It’s a shame there isn’t enough interest, however a meeting in November would be great if possible as I would love to come and meet you.

    Hi Julia,
So glad you managed to get away to Swansea, sounds as if you had good weather. I expect it was nice to catch up with Daniel.

Gosh that soup you had sounds delicious.

I have started reading your book, and am really enjoying it, Heidi my daughter is waiting for me to hurry up and finish reading it as she wants to read it as well.

I must agree that the comments put up about you is really rude. Just ignore them, put it down to jealously.

Hope all the family, Mum and Cats are well.

Take care, and keep the books coming.

    Love Jean XX
