Charlie Brook carin

Let’s talk about the weather… and music.

I hope you’ve had a lovely August :- ) Let’s start off this week’s blog in true British style. The weather!

I’m sure I read somewhere or heard on the radio that we were due a scorching August? Well, not where we live! Perhaps it’s been better where you are? As I write my blog, this is our view from our bedroom window. I’m no weatherman but I think a spot of rain could be due this morning!

Stormy skies
I’ve mentioned in previous blogs how I’m not one for the hot weather and I actually prefer a cooler climate and rainfall suits me just fine. My dogs aren’t too keen though as their lovely coats take on a whole new look!

Now, here’s a question for you which can be really hard to answer.

What’s your favourite song of all time?
It’s a tricky one and can be thought provoking too. I love music and enjoy a broad spectrum of music genre. However, there is one band and one artist of which I will never tire of hearing – and one of my few (ok, many!) regrets in life is that I never seized the opportunity to see them perform live.

Queen and, of course, Freddie Mercury.
It’s hard to put into words sometimes the effect music has on you. But that doesn’t really matter as music for me is a very personal experience and the impact a track has on one person can be radically different to how it affects another.

So, do I have a favourite track? Well yes and no! It depends on how I’m feeling and it can change from day to day. It’s probably more of a list which, if I start to write, is more than likely to run into dozens and dozens. This though is a song which I turn to from time to time. I love the lyrics, I love the clarity and simplicity and I love the way it makes me feel. So very, very thought provoking. But that’s just me.

These are the days of our lives. Queen.

I’d really like to hear from you and discover some of your favourite songs and why. Do leave a comment below if you get the chance. I’m also on Twitter @mecharliebrook

I’m looking forward to being back on air this coming Monday 31st August with the magical Charlie Bears collection at 1pm. Love those bears! I then have a couple of hours off (listening to a few more favourite tracks maybe?) followed by Yankee Candle at 4pm and then I’ve been let loose in Richard Jackson’s garden at 5pm. I wonder if he knows? Best not tell him, just yet, it’ll give him sleepless nights!

I hope you can join me.
Take care and see you soon.

In the meantime, I’ll take my cairns for their walk before the rain pours down.

Charlie x

I am a young minded 60 year old and me and my husband saw Queen in the 1970s
at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, when Freddie used to wear his skin tight jumpsuits.
Little did we know then the icons they were to become.Your favourite is one of mine
but I also love Radio GaGa.
The early Queen when they were more rocky appealed to us more.
I wish we could have seen them again but it was not to be.
    Best wishes Charlie.

    Hi Charlie,
so true about the weather, this has been a really horrendous “summer”. It’s August, for goodness sake, and the best we can manage is for it to be light cloud with no rain?
(nevertheless we did manage to get down to Brighton yesterday and even go in the sea, i wouldn’t recommend!)

looking forward to seeing you back on QVC!

My son & daughter in law have this Queen song playing at the beginning of their wedding video, while it is showing their growing up photos, they married in 1996.
My own favourite is I’ve Got You Under My Skin by Frankie Valli (Four Seasons) it was the 1st record my husband bought for me when we were courting in 1968. I have it as his ring tone on my phone.

    Hi Charlie.
Welcome back from your break. What a dreadful summer [ so far].
I’m not sure if I should thank you and Ali for making me laugh so much the other night during the beauty show. Not sure my poor ribs appreciated it though.
I think it must be a Gemini trait as my music taste’s change depending on my mood and how I’m feeling from day to day. Also depends on the seasons too.
Ranging from Chris Rhea ” on the beach and driving home for Christmas” to a lot of the sixties music and of course all the Christmas songs.
i must admit I’ve not been in to Queen much although a lot of their songs did have a meaning and did make think.
Bella and I are looking forward to Charlie bears on Monday [ or should I say Bella ].
Love the photo.. reminds me o a photo of Bella sunbathing.
    Take care.

The weather in Scotland has been very poor but like you no matter the weather I still have to walk my four rescue dogs. I listened to the Queen song and I agree it is very poignant one of my other favourites is Holding Back The Years – Simply Red and Albatross has to be up there too. So many what would life be like without music!!
