Hi there, it’s Lee here! QVC’s resident tech expert and lover of all things gadgety.
I really hope you’ll be able to join us for this Saturday’s Lenovo 10” Flex laptop Today’s Special Value. It’s an amazing piece of kit and, as always, a fantastic offer not to be missed. We’ll be kicking that off at midnight this Friday and it’ll be great to see you there.
You see me on air with all sorts of wonderful technology, and I’m often asked about the kind I use at home and on my travels so I wanted to share with you my top five tech items that I really would struggle to live without. To be fair I probably have a ‘Top 15’ list but I have tried to pick out the cream of the crop and certainly the items in my life that get used the most…
iMac 27” (aka my Mother Ship)
You’ll often hear me talk of the ‘Mother Ship’ and seeing as I run my life from this thing I did go for quite a flash one with this beauty. However, it does get a lot of use and even though it’s now 12 months old should last me at least another six+ years. That’s quite a long time when talking about a main computer and was definitely worth the investment.
This iMac also streams all of my music and videos to other devices within my home so really is an invaluable piece of technology. With a 27” screen it really does feel like a second TV in my living room, but with such beautiful engineering from those clever people at Apple it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s taking over my little corner office space.
iPhone 6 and 5S
I’m not really sure how we ever lived without smartphones? Mine does absolutely everything – email, Facebook, Twitter, maps, games, music, videos, pics, flight check-ins, movie times, ticket bookings, grocery shopping, etc… even the odd phone call!
I’m a big iPhone fan having had one from the very first launch day but thankfully there are many choices now available to suit all budgets. I know I look greedy having two phones but I am back in the US so often that I have an iPhone 5S for when I’m there (on a US contract) and it’s bigger brother the iPhone 6 in the UK.
They’re amazing phones and get so much use it’s untrue. They also take amazing pics and if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter (@leeqvc) you’ll see some of the beautiful shots it produces. I also always carry around a portable charger. The battery on these things have improved greatly but I use it so often that I like to have some back-up power.
Talking of back-up how could I ever live without this? Between my iMac, MacBook Pro, Acer PC, smartphones and tablets I have a LOT of data that I need to duplicate and keep safe just in case something should happen. I’ve been lucky enough to represent Clickfree since the very first day we featured it on QVC almost seven years ago and I’ve been hooked since that day.
It’s the simplest and most vital piece of technology I have and also ensures that I sleep much better at night! It’s so nice to hear how this has literally been a ‘life saver’ for many people out there over the years. I lost everything on a PC I had many years ago but that’ll never happen again with this trusty piece of kit.
This is the tablet I tend to travel with as the battery is SO crazy (18 hours!) and it allows me to expand the storage, which means this tablet currently gives me 80GB of memory to play with which is HUGE. This model is also 3G so it means that I am truly connected at all times.
A few years back I would always take a laptop computer away with me but thankfully I can now get everything done on my tablet: even things like spreadsheets and word processing documents. It also means that I can watch TV on the go and even the trusty old Beeb when I am out of the country using the fantastic SurfEasy service (that amazing product features in my top 10 tech must-have’s without a doubt).
It’s lovely to see so many people now enjoying tablets. They really do make life a lot easier and with tons of apps available there really is something for everyone.
This is starting to look a bit like a museum piece, and seeing as I’ve had it for around five years and it’s now a retired Apple product I guess it probably is! I LOVE my music and it really helps me keep in my own private zone when in the gym as well as providing all my musical entertainment on the move.
Although I still use streaming services (Spotify and Google Play Music) I really love this little box of tricks. It’s my mobile jukebox in my pocket and carries 18,000 songs for me, and believe it or not there is still room for another 20,000 songs when I get round to ripping some more of my classic CDs!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading a bit more about the tech that keeps me connected and entertained in my day-to-day life. Technology has come so far in the 25+ years I’ve been involved with it and it’s such a pleasure to see so many people now enjoying it. I’m a huge fan of social media so keep your eyes peeled on my Twitter and Facebook feeds for early information about upcoming technology products. It’s also great to get the chance to speak to you all and help out with your tech questions.
See you soon. Lee x
