Ladies, love your bellies!

Bellydance 016 - Copy Many of you know I took up bellydancing around four months ago. It all started when I saw a group of ladies performing at a local summer fair. All shapes, sizes, ages and abilities. I loved the music, the attitude, the costumes…I just had to sign myself up for classes and now my best friend, Mandy has joined, too!

The company who run the classes regularly put on shows and the latest one was a massive showcase at the Fairfield Halls Theatre in Croydon. This was my first perfermance with them and I had an absolute blast! I just thought I'd share this piccie with you. I think you can tell I'm enjoying myself.

Since having children my belly has never quite been what it used to may not be big but it certainly wobbles. A lot. Bellydancing has really given me a confidence boost about my wobbly bits. It's about the dance, the music, the enjoyment rather than what size or shape you may be. I highly recommend it!

A very kind person sent me a beautiful orange coined hip belt in to QVC when they heard me mentioning my new hobby. In return all they asked for was a signed photo of me…I am absolutely devastated that I have misplaced the letter which had their details in it. I deliberately put it in a safe place but it's nowhere to be seen. Please, please if it was you email me at or write in to QVC again and I will post the piccy out to you right away. I love the belt and wear it to my classes regularly and really want to say a personal thank you.

Here is a piccy of Mandy modelling it as a headscarf  during a recent evening in practising our moves! The more wine we had the better we seemed to get..'beer goggle' effect, I think that is!

I'd love to hear from you if you have a hobby that really fulfills you and gives you confidence. Maybe you bellydance? Perhaps you go to an art class? Or are you learning to speak a new language?

Please write in and share with everyone…with the new year just weeks away it may be a great time to think about taking up a new hobby. What have you always wanted to try?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Love Catherine x

    Hi Catherine
You look great, and also like you are having great fun. As I told you before I know how to bellydance but Iam shy, so only my husband and a few friends ever seen me dance.
As I now live in Mallorca, I have been learning to speak Spanish, and I love it. It is so nice to understand the people around you, and Iam making more Spanish friends it is great.
Have a great Christmas and a very happy new year.

    Hi Magda,
I must admit I had felt like you in the classes before the stage performance in that I was too shy to get my tummy out so none of my bellydancing classmates had ever seen my tum til the final rehearsal prior to the night of the performance! I think you should reach inside yourself and find that self confidence to put on a little bellydance show for your nearest & dearest this Christmas! Let me know if you do!
Well done on your Spanish, too. Fantastic stuff! I bet that gives you a boost knowing you are bilingual now. How excellent.
I think (but am not sure so forgive me if I am wrong) I should wish you a Felice Navidad!
    Love Catherine x

Hi I just wanted to welcome you to the Belly Dance World! I’ve just arrived back from Cairo Egypt having spent the week at an Egyptian Dance Festival. I’ve been dancing for about 9 years and I’m still learning and loving it! I am also learning Arabic which comes in handy in Cairo!
    Best Wishes

    Hi Jill,
Thank you for the lovely comments. It’s a huge community, this belly dancing world, isn’t it? I love it!
One day I’d love to go to Egypt and the Egyptian Dance Festival sounds very exciting. I bet you had a great time.
Very impressed about you learning Arabic. Surely it has to be one of the most challenging languages to learn! Well done. It’s fab to add new skills to your repertoire and that one’s a real biggie!
I hope you & yours have a lovely Christmas.
    Lots of love,
    Catherine x
