Knicker pinging!!!

Joan Collins and Julia RobertsLots of you commented on Twitter and on here about the show that I did with Joan Collins last Friday. It is amazing to think of the icons of the film industry that she has worked alongside through her long and illustrious career, and she is still working hard.

Along with her Timeless Beauty range that she presents for QVC, she is currently filming for the TV series 'Benidorm'. Her stylist took this shot of the two of us together and I liked it so much that I have cropped it and used it as my avatar on Twitter.

She was very funny in one of the breaks in the show. We were running a promo for the Spanx TSV and Joan asked me if I wore them. When I replied that I was wearing them right then she reached across and pinged my waistband … I kid you not!!

Wilnelia Forsyth1 Wilnelia Forsyth4 Earlier this week I met another very glamorous lady, a former Miss World no less. Wilnelia Forsyth (yes, Brucie's wife) had come into QVC to have a run through for the show I am presenting with her next Thursday at 2pm.

She has designed a range of stunning handbags, beautifully made in Italy using fine Italian leather, and one of the bags is based on an original painting done by the lady herself. The image will also appear on a chiffon scarf that we will be selling … lovely birthday present idea if you know anyone celebrating soon. Today is Catherine Huntley's birthday, Monday is Charlie's and I'm on Tuesday … I'll leave you to guess who is the oldest!!!

Hopefully my mum is coming to visit for a few days from Sunday for my birthday and also for her first view of our new house. I think she will love the garden in particular and she has a white cherry bush that she bought for me a couple of months ago that we need to find a home for. She has also not met Wilfie before … I need to warn her that he occasionally nips when he gets excited.

Wilfie watching TVWilfie on screenI wonder if any of you watched the programme about cats on Monday night on ITV? It was a fascinating insight into some of the things we watch them do on a daily basis, and it's amazing how similar in some ways our domestic cats are to their jungle cousins. Wilfie found the programme interesting too and even Poppy's attention was captured for a few minutes.

It made me realise just how young our former cat, Charlie, was when we found him as his eyes were barely open … he could only have been two weeks old and we managed to save him, much to the surprise of the vet!

Well, the electrician arrived on Monday to wire up the lights and the sockets in the new 'gym' so I just need a flatscreen TV/DVD player and I'll be more or less ready to go in there – apart from the floor and the painting. The outside is due to be painted this Wednesday, provided it stays dry.

I must confess I haven't done a workout at all this week as I have been busy writing but I did manage to get a bit of gardening in on Wednesday before the rain started, so I guess that was a bit of exercise. All my planters and hanging baskets are looking pretty now and I'm sure will grow quickly as I watered them in with lots of Richard Jackson's Flower Power.

Well I must dash now as I have a date with yet another glamorous lady, Tova Borgnine, at 7pm. Prior to that I have Country Candles at 4pm and this week's Fashion on Friday is Rieker footwear with lots of new styles.

Have a great weekend.

Much love,

Julia x

P.S. With a month of international football on the horizon, check back next week for the chance to enter a competition with an amazing prize that might just help you get match-fit for summer!

Hi julia, what a busy week you have had! But it seems as if all your weeks are busy one way or another!!
Looks like your gym is shaping up really well and I know you will be there for a workout as soon as you can.
Really hope to your mum has a nice stay with you and likes Wilfy. Elsa does a similar thing if she is over near the tv and sometimes we have to move her a s she blocking our view, but it’s lovely to watch her being so fascinated by the screen. I am still madly in love with my samsung tv,and can only say qvc looks even better on it.
Must. Ask about your eyelashes? They look fab and I can only say mine are amazing too and that’s all down to revitalash!! It would be my dessert island product I think.
Just got you on with to a and you look lovely julia.
Enjoy your mum, much love and hugs xxx

    Hi Julia
Just got back from my cancelled ‘scale and polish’, should have gone a couple of weeks ago, but for that pesky cold. Wasn’t as bad as I thought, altho’ at one point I nearly swallowed the ‘sucky’ thing she had in my mouth, because the water had gathered at the back of my throat and I did a massive gulp!
Didn’t realise you were off for a few days, so lucky having your Mum to stay for your Birthday, here’s hoping the weather improves for us both that day and you have a scrummy cake with lots of presents too…I’ve picked my present this year, a little Radley purse (the ones with the dog emblem), it’s called ‘on reflection’ and the dog is looking at his reflection in the water, sooo cute and quite apt, because as you get older you do do a lot of reflecting, I think.
I feel for your Mum taking steroids, after taking them for such a short period (6 tabs x 5 days) it’s amazing how bloated I felt afterwards and still do.
I saw your show with Simon, it was so funny both you and Ali wearing your t-shirts, but what a nice present, you’ll have to hang them up in your dressing room or better still, if he can’t make a show, you could wear it again and he’s there with you!
Here’s wishing you a very ‘Happy Birthday’ for Tuesday, your card has been posted so will be there when you return. Have a great day!!
    love

    Hi Julia,
You have really been rubbing shoulders with all the” celeb’s” lately! It must have been so thrilling. I met one of our iconic Welsh Personalities ,Max Boyce, near Christmas doing a bit of shopping at my local supermarket. I asked if he minded me saying hello. He said he could do better than that and gave me a Christmas kiss!! He is such a lovely man,so genuine. We spoke for quite a while, mostly about the rugby as he is a Welsh rugby supporter and has written many songs to do with the rugby.I saw him a short while after this and spoke to him again. I told him that he had made my day when I had seen him at Christmas. He really cheered me up as I had been going through a bad patch at the time.I met a couple of the Welsh Rugby players to.
It’s surprising who you see at my Tescos! There has been quite a bit of filming taking place around here. The Doctor Who series, Merlin, the story of Paul Potts. We always seem to miss these though alas. We were at one end of our local beach only to discover that they had been filming for the Paul Potts film at the other end of the beach. James Corden and Julie Walters had been there!
I watched the programme about the cats of course being a cat fanatic. It was indeed fascinating and very informative.
I was glued to the T.V. yesterday watching the D Day 70TH anniversary ceromonies. It was very moving to see these Veterans and thinking what they had to endure so that we can live in freedom today. I cried most of the day!
Well its time I stopped wittering on and make the tea.
Take care, best wishes Tina (S. Wales)
p.s. my husband will be keeping ALL of his books when we do eventually move!!!!

    Hi Julia,
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday for Tuesday, it will be nice to have your Mum over to stay, I am sure she will love the garden and am sure Wilfie will keep her entertained.
I love the photos of him watching the TV. Yes the programme about the Cat’s was really interesting, fantastic watching how they position themselves when they fall. What about the Cat that fell off the ledge from nineteen floors up, it is unbelievable how he survived
Glad your gym is coming along, will you be bringing out an exercise video?
Hope you have a great Birthday.
    Take care.
    Love Jean xx

    Hi Diane
Wilfie has been surprising well behaved with my mum – mind you he did have his claws clipped Monday which seems to calm him down. Lots of cooking this week … Quiche, lasagne, risotto birthday cake …. like to spoil mum a bit. We took a drive out to Windsor yesterday to show her the castle and surrounding countryside – she loved it.
Yes my eyelashes are down to Revitalash … I’m on the maintenance programme now as they were hitting the inside of my sunglasses when wearing mascara! Using Revitabrow for the first time now too – will let you know how I get on.
They are coming to start painting the outside of the gym tomorrow … haven’t christened it yet, just been too busy.

    Hi Annette
Hope you had a lovely birthday …. it was lovely and sunny here, I even sat out sunbathing in the garden for a couple of hours while mum was having her nap. The cake was SCRUMMY, though I say so myself.
Had lots of lovely little gifts including a mug that says ‘Go away I’m writing’ which made me laugh, but my main present is tickets to see the stage version of Les Mis …. can’t wait!
I treated myself to a new toothbrush about a month ago and my teeth have never looked or felt so clean. It’s the Sonicare Diamond Clean … you should try it.
Thanks in advance for the card
    Love

    Hi Tina
It’s funny when you meet ‘celebs’ in the supermarket … to speak or not to speak? Years ago when I was just starting out in TV presenting I hosted my own chat show for cable television. I saw Graham Bickley, who used to play Joey in the TV series Bread, in my Sainsbury’s and asked him if he would come on the show …. he did!
Very grateful to all those who fought for our freedom …. my dad was RAF in the 2nd World War.

    Hi Jean
Thanks for the birthday wishes … I had a lovely family day. Mum and Wilfie have been getting on well but she does tend to favour Poppy!
I think the cat who fell 19 floors used all his 9 lives in one go!
Funny you should ask about an exercise video ….. I have had a really good idea for one for ages but haven’t had time to do anything about it yet ….. Maybe I should. Talking of exercise, fab competition to win a Pilates machine coming up on this week’s blog.
    Love

    Hi Rose
Sounds like you are well organised for your birthday celebrations. I think my brother is going to New York but Chris says he doesn’t want ‘any fuss’! We’ll see about that! Maybe we’ll go and see Keeley in Cyprus, I think he would enjoy that.
Re England. We have undoubtedly got some very talented young players but I am just a little uncomfortable that there is not a bit more quality experience ….. Lalana is one to watch but there are a few weak links too. Good thing is so little is expected of the England team that they may just surprise us all … hope so cos I like Roy and Ray. Kicks off tomorrow … seems to have come round so quickly!

    Hi Julia
Glad you had a lovely birthday too. Hope you enjoy Les Mis, we went a few years ago and it was very good, but quite a long one and I was famished when we got out! Sonicare are very good, I’ve got the Flexcare, maybe try the Diamond Clean when this one pegs out.
The morning was really warm here, so started off well, then come the afternoon, torrential rain, thunder and lightening, just when we thought we’d got rid of it! Didn’t spoil the day though.
Although today is a different story, my hairdresser asked me this morning what perfume I was wearing, well it’s one I’ve worn for a number of years now and absolutely LOVE it, so gave her the details. Afraid, although it’s L’Occitane, it’s one that QVC didn’t sell, so I’ve bought it direct, Eau D’iparie. Desperate not to run out myself, about 1cm left in bottle, I went online only to find they have discontinued it…I am gutted and pleased to say, not the only by the amount of people who have begged to have it’s return…had I known I would have bought a crate of the stuff, well slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I will have to use it most sparingly now in the hope that they will see the error of their ways and re-instate it, which is apparently what they did a number of years ago.
Going to have a cup of coffee and a chunk of Birthday cake now to cheer me up!
    love
    Annette x
