Just how much excitement can one girl have in a week…

Westoning Christmas decorations …I ask myself as I remove a dead shrew from underneath the armchair in the sitting room. After Sam's skydive, life has started to quieten down a little but if you're a cat, this time of year is heaven!

The field behind us has just been 'mown', or whatever it is you do to a field, and this in turn has uncovered masses of little mice and shrews' nests. I lost count of the number of baby shrews I saved, returned to the field, only to see them back again 10 minutes later in the middle of the kitchen floor!

Well, I say them… in truth it's almost impossible to differentiate between one shrew or another, but suffice to say I did my best to rescue them all whilst chastising the cats with some choice language. However, one little soul clearly escaped underneath a very large, low chair, and ended its days among the dust that had gathered there.

How did I find it, I hear you ask? By a process of elimination… the rather unusual odour wasn't my feet, or Colin's, or the somewhat damp carpet I'd attempted to remove a rather large cherry Lambrini stain from, or even a stray sock I found jammed between the cushions. It was indeed the, now rather stiff, body of the shrew.

I'm happy to say the room has now returned to normal and Willows and Dodge are having to content themselves with catching rather large spiders – for which I will be eternally grateful!

Plus, having finally succumbed to the cold and moved the heating switch from 'off' to 'timed', I went to buy a leaf rake and passed this… (see photo above). I was so shocked I felt the need to share it with you… XMAS DECORATIONS ALREADY!!!!! Please don't tell me you've seen them as well!

Oh go on then… looking forward to hearing from you :).

Crikey Margaret that is extreme!! I agree of course that shopping for presents early is a corking idea (my sister and daughter have been doing it for years) but crackers?? Xmas pudding?? – could be stock left over from last year! And as for Xmas decs in the window….. 🙂 least said soonest mended – as my nanny used to say. Thanks for writing and have a great week. Hi there Rhona, lovely as always to hear from you. I think we passed through Dundee on the train – or got off the train at Dundee – my brain’s a little foggy!! That said your comment about Christmas only being 13 weeks away woke me up! Even though we start Xmas in July at QVC it always seem to catch me out. Let you into a secret though – we were having our photos taken for the Xmas card today! Sounds like your Colin’s got an eagle eye if he’s spotted chocolate christmas decs already. I found some old chocolate father christmases in the drawer last week – but thought it might be tempting fate or illness to hang them on the tree this crimble 🙂 Have a great week, and say hi to your daughter and my namesake for me. Love Ali xx

Alison you go on about me making you laugh let me tell you right back at you, you don’t half make me laugh Alison with your story’s I think we are two of a kind, and yes you would have got off at the train station in Dundee or passed through, thats where we get on anytime we were coming down to QVC to see Suzi or Belinda churchill who’s now back in America who also takes great joy in telling me everyweek more so if its sunny over there and it’s raining in scotland, just because you got sun in scotland Alison don’t let that fool you, I will pass on your best to my Alison your namesake 🙂 so if you feel she’s your namesake you will be happy to hear she get’s Ali also 🙂 and as for my colin seeing christmas choc’s what can I say it’s chocolate of course he would see it, it’s something to eat!! I do think it’s spooky with the names Alison and colin as you now have your colin too, but I do have a Rebecca and if you tell me thats your middle name, Rebecca is the daughter working at Glamis castle now that’s my little one who’s taller than me now, am the same height as suzi Alison, sorry to give you a wake up call about christmas, I have to tell you I love christmas after all I married my colin on christmas eve! have a lovely week Alison, lot’s of love Rhona x

And how romantic to be married on Chrismas Eve! I bet Christmas morning that year had to be one of the best waking up as Mrs. Fenton 🙂 One thing though we do differ on you, me and our Colins is love of chocolate…. Colin and I are not that partial at all! Love to you and your family, and have a great week. Thanks as always for keeping in touch. Ali xx
