Had a lovely time last night (thurs 28th) in Reading Waterstones with my writing boss-woman! Info below. Plus –
Get ready for an August push for healthy eating and weight loss! (See below). Plus – an Elemis competition! And, if you didn’t already know, since 2009 I’ve been writing novels, some steamy (!), plus short stories, anthologies and non-fiction, and have published many online. (info here if you’re looking for a beach read.) Here is a pic of my ‘writing room’ this week – outside in the warm weather in the back garden. It was lovely!
It’s been an uphill struggle to get my sequel ‘Take a Chance on Me’ finished. But I’m nearly there now, and my new book ‘Try It For The First Time Club’ will be out early next year. Sitting in my warm garden really helps, as I can unwind and relax amongst the superb greenery and blooms – see below for the latest flowers to come out of my garden. Anyway, if you’re a steamy romance fan and you loved TACOM and would like to read the sequel as a beta reader, just let me know via email@example.com.
I need a couple of extra speedy beta readers who can turn it around quickly. I’ll add you to my Facebook group (if you’re a member), where we talk about new books etc. In fact, the subject of my group, called ‘Debbie’s Readers,’ came up at Julie’s book launch, since Lucy Legg, a fellow Cohen-student was there and told me how helpful my group had been with her own new novel. I also saw Sue, who I met at my Chez Castillon holiday, as well as the successful author Cally Taylor, AKA C L Taylor who writes super thrillers. This is her second right in this pic of me with four others including Lucy, fellow Choc Lit author Alison May, and Rosemary Dun whose book, on pre-order, was a Book of the Week recently and which comes out soon. Such illustrious company!
At Waterstones in Reading for a Julie Cohen reading!
Yes as you can see in the pic at the top, I toddled off after work on Beauty Day, down the M4 to Reading, where my lovely writing mentor Julie Cohen lives. she’s the lady I’ve studied writing with most. Julie Cohen – a successful Richard and Judy level award-winning, best-selling author and all round master storyteller, was having her launch party for her latest novel, called Falling. One of her poet friends did a reading, and Julie had a huge turn out, on the top floor of Waterstones. A good time was had by all – well done Julie!
Book of the Week – Falling Obviously ‘Falling’ is my Book of the Week over on my website – three generations of drama, secrets and tragedy – fabulous as ever. Go here for more info and links to Julie’s other books and website. Click here.
RiWiSi – my Read it Write it Sell it blog also features the wonderful work of Diana Gabaldon – for Outlander fans (the TV series based on her epic 8 book series) some super sneaky peeks of her next novel – Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. More here.
Bouquet of the Week What lovely blooms I keep getting in my beautiful abundant garden! This week’s little bouquet features some of the blue and purple flowers. Can you identify any? There are buddleja, antirrhinum, persimmon (I think), lavender, allium and some weird pink fluffy one! Know what it is? Leave me a comment below if so!
View from my coffee cup! And here’s one of the views in my garden – the ‘view from my coffee cup’ on one of the warm days, probably where I’ll be sitting this coming weekend (31st) when I’m on ‘lock down’ due to the (dratted!) cycle race when they shut the roads and go whizzing by. Are you affected by it? I’ll be finishing my novel this weekend, so I can get cracking on the next one ‘French or Dutch’ and get that finished so Julie Cohen can critique it for me in September. I know I’ve had a hiatus in my novel-writing but I’m getting back on track now! At least that’s one good use of the lock down!
Flint Family Fun Got together with three of my siblings last weekend too, for a catch up. There are so many of us nowadays we have to do it in stages! Haha! There are weddings on the horizon so there was lots of talk of dresses and such like. Not mine, I hasten to add! Giving up on that front for the time being – got novels to write! Lol. Mind you, this weekend I would have been going to my pal Jonny P’s wedding in Spain, and in the end I didn’t go but will look forward to the pics.
Supper with my Daughter My lovely Lolly invited me over for supper this week, just before we went to see the ‘BFG’ – see below. I was very pleased to see the spaniels, Loony Luna and adorable Baloo. Plus the successful veg she’s been growing – puts me in the shade. Where I like it. Lol!
Gracie Dog am pleased to report that my ‘flabrador’ (fat Labrador!) is now below 30kg for the first time in years! Yay! Here she is in the garden and here’s her preferred sleeping position – she’s so funny!
Back to You / TTFLS August Challenge. Thought this was funny, given that in August my little Facebook Group ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims’ (come join us) is going to have a big push for health, fitness and weight loss. Go here to read more about how you can come join us. Plus, don’t forget each week I include a little update at the bottom of this blog – I love this week’s from Jane D! (see bottom of this blog)
ELEMIS COMPETITION Here’s a fabulous little bundle of products, worth approx £100 – do leave me a comment below, if you’d like to be entered, saying ‘enter me’ along with what Elemis products have done for you! QVC’s Standard T & Cs apply, competition closes Thursday 4th August at 23:59. Winner will be announced in next week’s blog. Good luck!
Hair Today – Toni Brattin comes to QVC I loved playing girly dress up this week with famous wig and hair piece brand run by Toni Brattin, and on Tuesday night, the lady herself was here. They chose the layered wavy hair extension pieces for me to wear in deep red – can you spot them? Very lifelike and the style always stays, you don’t need to heat-treat it at all.
Hair Back On the other hand, the previous shift I’d put my hair right back, partly cos it was hot! Many people liked it and said it was ‘sophisticated’ (not a word usually seen in the same sentence as me! Lol) But others didn’t like it at all. (What do you think? Leave me a comment below!)
Facebook Funny – considering its all about books this week, and Cinderella was one of my own childhood faves, thought this was appropriate – funny!
Had a ‘watch-fest’ this week too –
Watch 1 – The BFG – the big screen complements the Big Friendly Giant perfectly and the talented Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) is superbly cast in the title role from Roald Dahl’s children’s book which examines what happens when a little girl called Sophie stumbles across a giant in charge of people’s dreams and nightmares. It includes some thoroughly enjoyable cameos – including from Penelope Wilton as The Queen and one of my faves – Rafe Spall as her footman. Really, really great adaptation and if your kids are not easily terrified, they’ll love it! I was more Narnia than Dahl, when it came to my Bradley and Lauren’s reading material, so I didn’t know the story very well and thought it was great. 8 out of ten.
Watch 2 – Someone Knows My Name – another superb award-winning mini-series on TV, available on catch up again (Fox TV). Set in the late 1700s, a little girl slave’s story is recreated for the small screen and having watched episode 1, am enjoying this period piece and will follow the series. Kidnapped in Africa and subsequently enslaved in South Carolina, Aminata must navigate a revolution in New York, isolation in Nova Scotia and treacherous jungles of Sierra Leone, in an attempt to secure her freedom in the 18th century. Recommended. Watch the promo here.
Watch 3 – Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation, on Sky movies – the newest one from Tom Cruise but I have to say our very own Simon Pegg, reprising his role as the bumbling tech guy in the IMF team (no, not that IMF, the impossible missions foundation (or something!)) almost outshines Cruise in this latest romp which gives the Bond franchise a run for its money. This one has some cool twists and turns and manages to maintain the recently acquired tongue-in-cheek tone, which gives it some degree of unpredictability. Tom is persona non grata (temporarily, natch) in this action adventure as he traces an all important USB stick full of info the baddie needs. Worth a watch, for Simon Pegg’s dramatic turn if nothing else! 7.5 out of ten.

‘HUGE NSV! (Non-scales-victory!)
“I have just bought some ‘(long) shorts for my holiday! Not a big deal for some but they are the first pair of shorts that I have had since I was about 6! That is 55 years ago. And they are THREE sizes smaller than I was wearing around year to eighteen months ago!’
Fabulous news isn’t it, from another lady who is finding the support from TTFLS and Freedom Eating is really helping her on her weight loss journey. I say to anyone who wants to give it a try, to read up on ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet’ book which is like the one which sold out in signed hardback on QVC last year. Plus book 3.0 with more tips and tales to inspire. The whole story and links are here on my webpage.
