Some days I really look forward to going in to work and today is one of them. Not only is it Jewellery Day on QVC with everything on three easy pays but Simon Wilson is back for the first Butler & Wilson jewellery shows of the year.
By the time you read this he will have had his afternoon show but please join us for the Couture show at 9pm. I can't wait to hear all his news and find out what he has planned for this year...he has a VERY big birthday in August but I couldn't possibly divulge which one!
I'm also on with the lovely Ralph again and then I have Epiphany Clad Diamonique at 11pm...what a lovely shift to look forward to.
I had some time booked off work so Chris and I have booked a few days away in Spain...anything to escape this seemingly incessant rain, although as I type the sun is streaming through the windows and not for the first time this week. It really does lift the spirits and apparently Wilfy enjoys it too. He suddenly seems to have grown huge and he is not yet six months...you don't think he is actually a black panther do you ?!?!?
We have managed to get quite a lot sorted on the house this week. Thankfully it had stayed dry most of last weekend so the guys were able to come and finish the drive on Monday...nice job! We had the chimney man come to see if our chimney needed sweeping prior to lighting any fires and also to pop a 'hat' on the top so that no birds can fly down it, as happened twice at the house before last.
We also had the locksmith round to fit new locks (better to be safe than sorry) and Daniel and I went to look at some 'Garden Rooms' as we are planning on having one at the bottom of the garden to house my gym equipment.
Speaking of which I finally managed to clear some space in the spare room to set up my Pilates machine, which I went on yesterday for the first time this year! I have a show with Marjolein on the 20th February so I thought I had better attempt to get myself back in shape...one of my five New Year's resolutions.
I also haven't managed to go swimming lately but I did want to mention a new world record set by the swim 4 leukaemia team last Saturday. They were raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, one of QVC's chosen charities this year. Well done to all who swam, particularly James Crisp who very kindly helped out with my little gala last year. I think you can still donate if you would like to at swim4leukaemia.
Of course QVC's main charity down the years is Breast Cancer Care. You may well have read Chloe's latest blog about her breast cancer scare. I had a very similar thing happen to me nine years ago except that I didn't have a noticeable lump. I had gone along for a mammogram because my sister had just been diagnosed with breast cancer five years after my mum so my doctor thought it would be prudent even though I wasn't showing any symptoms and I wasn't yet fifty at the time.
Like Chloe I was called back after waiting for the mammogram results and had to have an ultrasound scan as they thought they could see something. This proved inconclusive so they did a needle biopsy there and then. It's all a bit frightening when you think you are just going for the result of a test and you end up going home bruised and bandaged. Fortunately the small growth they found was non malignant, again like Chloe, but it underlined the importance of self examination and going for breast health checks when recommended to by your doctor. So pleased it was good news for her.
Well I must stop now as I have some different writing to get on with - yes I've finally got the 'baby' laptop out to pick up where I left off with my new book before the panic of house-hunting stole all my time! Hopefully I'll be able to get plenty done while I'm off from QVC after launching the Kim & Co TSV Sunday midnight.
Hope to see you there!
