Where does the time go???

Beauty Bash photoboothI can't believe it's a week since I wrote my last blog and two weeks since we moved into the cottage... it seems to be true that time moves faster when you are older! We are still a bit disorganised, with a few boxes still to be unpacked and lots of things without a permanent home, but at least we now have a phone, broadband and satellite TV... thanks Sky for excellent customer service, much better than our previous provider and half the price!

This week has been busy sorting out a block paving company to create some parking spaces for us, a gardener to clear the front to make room for the parking spaces, and a tree specialist to do a bit of pruning and trimming.

Julia's catWe have also discovered the cause of a nasty whiff that we were getting occasionally so we'll get the plumber onto that next week! The cats are still getting on really well together, although they have to sleep in separate rooms as Wilfy is still on kitten food and Poppy tends not to eat all her food in one go so he would probably finish hers off!

He sleeps in the conservatory which adjoins the kitchen, but we have found his basket and his QVC teddy next to the door of the room Poppy sleeps in a few times, so maybe he is lonely.

I haven't mentioned football for a while but thought I would just let you know that Chris is still our lucky talisman. He picked me up after my Mally and Honora shows last Saturday to go to Selhurst Park. It was the first time we had driven from there and it took AGES but we were there in time for kick-off and it was worth it as we won 1 - 0 (apologies to PitchRose but we needed the points).

He hasn't seen Palace lose at home this season so I immediately asked him what he is doing next Tuesday... coming to the game now! Our season tickets are on row 4 and the roof on the Main Stand where we sit ends above row 4 so we always pray that it won't be raining... we've been pretty lucky so far!

And so to the Beauty Bash which I attended yesterday along with Debs Flint, Miceal, and my roomie Marverine. It was a new venue, on the site of the Old Billingsgate fish market and I must say I think it is the best venue we have had. We had around 70 of our beauty brands in attendance, lots of them offering treatments and all of them offering advice, along with our beauty expert Ali Young.

It was lovely to meet so many of you there and thanks for coming up to talk to me. I had met one or two of you before at other events, including my book launch party at Butler & Wilson last year, but it still caught me by surprise when Winnie asked, "How is your lovely Chris?" He is lovely, he remembered our 36th anniversary last Sunday without prompting from me and bought me a card, which I had forgotten to do, and some chocolates... he is definitely a 'good un'!

I'm heading into QVC shortly for a 4pm show with Sarah Chapman and then Kipling at 5pm... I think the TSV will be gone by then so watch out for OTOs.

This weekend is our first Beauty Weekend of the year and kicks off with a fab TSV from Decleor (cleanser, toner, Systeme Corps and big size of night balm)... hope they've ordered lots of stock as I'm not with Fiona until 7pm. Also, if you love Eyeko mascara you might want to tune in for the 8pm beauty show Saturday night... ssshhh I didn't tell you!

Enjoy your weekend,
Much love,
Julia

Hi Julia,
Firstly, I am delighted that you did receive my letter - yes, we did get a rescue cat. She's called "Lettie" and we are her 7th home and she's only 4. We've had her nearly a week now and she's here to stay. I'll send you and Marverine a photo asap!

Glad to hear you're all settling into your new home and starting to make changes. Unfortunate about the "whiff" - hope it's just a small leak somewhere and easily sorted..

Good to hear the Beauty Bash went well and having of course read your book, I can second Winnie's comments about Chris - you are soul mates!

I hope little Wilfy is ok - in some way, having read a lot about cats recently, he must see Poppy in the same "group" as him and maybe is hinting at wanting a cuddle with her. I'm NO expert though!

You take care and glad all is well,
Beth XXX.

Hey Julia ,

sitting here watching you doing the Sarah Chapman hour.Sorry I haven't been in touch recently - You're looking great as usual and hopefully you're feeling good to.Glad that you and your other half have successfully moved house , I'm sure that'll be a big weight off your mind. Also great that the cats don't seem to have been upset by the move - My Simbi brought his 1st mouse of the year in last night , hopefully this was a one off as he was quite prolific last year but that was more in the summer !
Just a quick one to say been thinking of you and hope you have a very happy and healthy new year.

Lotsa luv , Dawn xxx

Hi julia, the beauty bash always sounds such good fun and I loved the photo of you 3 naughty presenters!
Glad to hear you are moving mountains so to speak with your new home. Really hope you are very happy there. Understand Wilfy gets lonely, Elsa is always with me wherever I am, she comes too, mainly in bed but can be a scamp in the kitchen! Have you any tips on how to stop her scratching the corner of my bed base. We bought a scratch post and she has never been anywhere near it! Love having her so much. It's surprising the conversations you can have???
Pleased to just watch you with Sarah and her skin care, haven't tried hers yet so may do after today.
Don't know a thing about football but pleased your team and chris are doing so very well.
Take care, big hugs and love xx

Dear Julia,
Hope you are getting on top of all your unpacking. I must say that when we moved some 12 or so years ago we were unpacking boxes for months. I had arranged to have a new cooker delivered for the day after we had moved in. I explained all this when I bought my new oven. We waited and waited but there was no sign of the delivery van. We had'nt had our phone connected either so I had to drive to the nearest payphone ( I also did'nt have a mobile phone back then!). When I finally contacted the place where I had purchased my cooker from they told me the delivery had been aborted because they could'nt find our address!! As you can imagine I was not a happy bunny, especially as they could not re-arrange delivery for about a week. We lived off microwave meals for a week!
I read your football news. Being a true Welsh lass I am a Rugby nut and am looking forward to the start of the RBS Six Nations Games which start this Saturday. Our first match is against Italy at Cardiff. I wish I could be there but have to make do watching it on the box. The atmosphere is always electric, what with the singing we Welsh are famed for . You can't beat it, but I suppose I am biased just a little bit!!
Well hope you'll soon be sorted at your new home.
Take care, Tina (South Wales)

Hi Beth
I'm so pleased you got a rescue cat and that you've fallen in love with her already. Wilfy was so cute the other night ... he jumped up onto the same cushion where Poppy was sleeping and fell asleep. When Poppy woke about an hour later she gave him a disdainful look and jumped down - poor Wilfy, he just wants her to love him.
We think we've identified the problem with the 'whiff' and have a plumber coming this week

Hi Dawn
I really enjoyed the show with Sarah Chapman, hadn't worked with her in ages ..... The overnight facial and overnight body smell absolutely delicious!
I'm feeling pretty good at the moment - just at the hospital now for my latest blood tests.
Poppy doesn't catch mice and Wilfy hasn't been out yet so we haven't had the mouse problem yet.
Wishing you a happy and healthy new year too

Hi Diane
Just replied to you on my previous blog .... running a bit behind at the moment. Wilfy loves his scratching post - we bought him one with a swing ball when he was tiny which looks way too small for him now, but he still uses it. Maybe try your tip with the water spray to stop Elsa clawing the bed. Poppy has never really done that but Daisy was quite naughty and totally ruined a divan base.
Sorted some of the papers out in my office area yesterday so at least I can now find the contact details for all the people I need to inform that we have moved! I enjoyed yesterday .... first time I've felt properly relaxed since we moved.
Beauty Bash was really good - I love meeting so many of the QVC viewers and I spent some time chatting to a lady who has ME.
Football again tomorrow night after I finish at QVC so it will be a bit of a late night as it's further to drive now - Chris is going so hope the magic works again

Hi Rose
Thanks for the congrats for our 36 years together .... I think Chris probably deserves a medal!
I have been sleeping really well since we moved so waking up more refreshed than I have done for the last few months.
Both our teams are out of the FA Cup now so we can concentrate on staying in the Premier league .... a bit worried we haven't signed anyone yet though.
Speak soon

Hello Tina
I think there will be some boxes that will take a little longer to unpack but we are looking reasonably organised downstairs already.
Fortunately there was a cooker, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer already at the house and they were virtually new so we just paid a few pounds to keep them - I would never have coped on microwave meals for a week .... not a fan, would have to have just had salads or eaten out.
I must confess I don't understand the rules of rugby, even though my son Daniel has tried to explain them to me, but it always looks so violent? Enjoy it anyway

Dear Julia,
Its the Welsh Rugby fanatic again! I must admit that I don't fully understand all the rules in rugby, but I find the game so exciting. When my husband and I watch the games it's so gripping. Rugby is a very physical game I must admit, but it's not just a game of rugby to us, its part of our Welsh heritage. I'm sure if you started watching the games especially the internationals, you'd get hooked to.
Best wishes, Tina S. (South Wales)

Your lucky mascot is still working. Great result for your team tonight Love Morag x

Hi Julia,

I Hope enjoyed the football match with with Stoke especailly after
your football team won.
So they haven't last a home game this season evrytime you have attended I notice from your previous message.
The secret for Crystal Palace avoiding relegation is for you to attend the home matches.

My husband is a Palace fan too and attend matches if he is not working.

I was always try to watch the fashion shows when I can, especially when there are shoes.
I have small feet beimg only a size 3.5 and was wondering on the emu collection and the Marta collection should I go up or down a size.
The reason why I am asking you is because on a lot the shows you always say that you are a half size but I couldn't remember if you went up or down.

I hope you can help

All the best Julia

Sarah

Hi Julia how are you? Great result for the mighty Eagles last night. Holding their own in the Prem at the moment. Fingers crossed for you they stay up

Hope you are well xx

Hi Tina
Did you realise you almost cracked a joke with your 'get hooked' comment - isn't there a position in rugby called a hooker? What I do admire is how the huge rugby players have total respect for the usually comparatively diminutive referee .... no shouting or moaning, just accepting the ref's decision.
Have fun

My Photo

Hi Morag
It wasn't a pretty game to watch, particularly the second half, but those were an important 3 points for Palace - I think Chris is going to have to go to all the rest of the home games this season!

Hi Sarah
We played Hull on Tuesday night ..... it wasn't a pretty game, mostly backs to the wall defending after we scored, but at least we won. It's not me who brings Palace the luck, it's my partner Chris - I was unfortunate enough to witness a few defeats too but that's part of being a fan as I'm sure your husband would agree!
Re the shoe sizes / I'm not sure about Marta but definitely go down if you are a half size in Emu.

Hi Steven
I know, we have reached the lofty heights of 14th ...... who would have thought it, certainly none of the BBC pundits! We are on TV on Sunday against Arsenal - not expecting any points but hope we play well and I think we may have got Tom Ince on loan .... fingers crossed.
Had bloods done on Monday and all seems ok - next big test is in March.
Good to hear from you

Hi Julia,

Thank you for the your reply.

I will bear that in mind when I order EMU next time.
What size shoe are you Julia?
Can't remember if you said you was a size 3.5 or 4 on air.
Watching some of the shoe shows on qvc I know some size 4's are big on you but that might have been the Clarke's range.

Hiya Julia,

I always watch the fashions shows in my spare with Kim & Co being my favourite.

I like all the presenters on the show as you are all so hopefull in the way you explain things which makes it's so easy for us.

Which presenters do you share a dressing room with?

Love
Margaret

My Photo

Hi Julia,

Can I ask how tall you are?
You always dress nice and you have a nice figure.
I saw you standing next Claudia Slvester you use to work for QVC and she towered over you. I don't want to say that you looked short and she looked quite tall.

Regards
Anna

Ha the likes of Mr Hanson has been wrong before Julia! What do they know eh. Fingers crossed for Sunday. The games against the teams roundabout are more important though I would say. Tom Ince would be a great signing. Our ex Captain Barry Ferguson is now caretaker at Blackpool that would be an interesting appointment. With Rangers I'll just be happy to see the window shut with our squad still in tact.

Sorry I hadnt posted for a while in your blogs. Been really busy at my work recently.

Wishing you all the very best in March on a personal level too. Fingers crossed.

Have you had any pilates shows lately?

Take care

Steven xx
