Home Sweet Home
The removal men had arrived the day before to pack up one lorry (we had to have two smaller lorries because of access at the new house) and had everything on the second lorry by 12.30. I had been on the phone hassling my solicitor and the estate agents since their respective offices had opened that morning, nevertheless the sale still had not completed by 1.45pm when the removal men rang to say they were waiting outside the cottage.
That's the main problem with downsizing, where to put everything and this is after we had a 'cull' of unnecessary things! We had issues with the heating for the first couple of days as there was no instruction booklet, but Sophie visited on Sunday and managed to work out the programming so now we are as warm as toast. Obviously we still have stacks of boxes everywhere but at least we are in and the Tiffany style lamps I have already unpacked make it feel like home.
Most importantly both of the cats seem very settled with no repeat of the refusal to eat from Poppy that we had on the last couple of moves. You'll be pleased to hear that we are not planning on going anywhere for a while and I'm really looking forward to making the changes we have got planned to really make the house our home.
In all this house moving chatter I forgot to mention that it was Sophie's birthday on the 8th. As a special treat we were able to go and see the Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall, courtesy of a friend of Daniel's whose family own a box there and let us have it at a discounted price. I had never seen the show before and I must say it was truly impressive.
We then went for dinner at Signor Sassi's in Knightsbridge as it was quite close and we had celebrated Sophie's 21st birthday there five years ago. I had secretly organised for them to bring out a mini tiramisu and sing Happy Birthday to her, which I'm pleased to say most of the restaurant joined in with.
So, back to work today after nine days off...what's been happening??? I am on at 3pm this afternoon with the TSV Ottaman, and then Fashion at Five features Chelsea Muse followed by Ottaman Silver (nothing to do with the Ottaman TSV!)
It will be good to get back to the normality of work as I feel I've been in a weird kind of time bubble for the last week and of course there is the Beauty Bash to look forward to next Thursday - if you are coming please come up and say 'hello'.
Much love, Julia xx
