Tell us about your first ever show…
I first appeared on QVC on 1st October 1993 with Jon Briggs for the launch of QVC TV. It was terribly nerve racking and exciting because we were welcoming everyone to a new way of shopping.
My first show was a gold jewellery show. I can even remember what I was wearing – it was a coral-coloured jacket which I still own and it still fits me which is amazing! You could say it's a piece of history.
What have been the funniest/most embarrassing moments?
I was presenting In The Kitchen with Paul Lavers and had baked a chocolate cake which we were icing. We used an icing bag with nozzle attachments but hadn't attached them properly. The chocolate butter icing was oozing out of the sides of the bag, and we were trying to do a round-up at the end of the show but we were in hysterics!
The time I went on air with my hair in plaits probably wasn't a great idea. I was also accustomed to the shoulder pads of the 90s – it was relevant to the time so that's my excuse.
What has been the highlight of the last 15 years?
It has to be my trip to the Bahamas with Claire Sutton. I felt so privileged to be there, it was amazing.
I did, however, have a bit of a dilemma at the beginning of the trip. I'd flown out two days later than Claire but wasn't able to get a direct flight. So I had to fly to Florida then get a connecting flight to the Bahamas, but my luggage didn't make it! On the first night we had a welcome party and I had no clothes to change into apart from what I was standing in!
Simon Wilson was also out there with us. He had a St Tropez tan before he came out so he didn't look pale when he arrived. However, while we were gradually tanning, Simon seemed to get paler and paler as the tan wore off. It was hilarious.
What do you enjoy presenting the most?
A personal favourite is the Breast Cancer Care show. It's a cause close to my heart as my mum and sister both had breast cancer. I love getting involved with the shows even if I'm not presenting them.
I also love presenting beauty shows with Alison Young because she's a wealth of knowledge.
My top tip is always listen to your co-presenter or guest. There's no point in having a set formula because once you start conversing that will go out the window.
So, to join in with Julia's celebrations tune into her special 15th anniversary show on Saturday 4th October from 5pm – 7pm.
