John Barrowman will be appearing with me on QVC this Friday (26th February) at 2pm!
I am delighted to have been asked to join John Barrowman for his guest appearance on QVC to promote his new album simply called 'John Barrowman'.
This is the album that he has been dying to make and it reflects simply his first love, musical theatre. Each track has an emotional relevance for John. 'So Close' from Disney's 'Enchanted' was recorded with Jodie Prenger, the winner of the reality show 'I'd Do Anything' and was recorded for his niece, Clare.
'You'll Never Walk Alone' from Carousel was sung to him as a child by his mother and there's also 'I Won't Send Roses' from Mack and Mabel, one of my all time favourite musicals.
John was born in Glasgow and spent time in the USA with his parents and while studying the arts in San Diego before returning to England. I love his story as to why he speaks with an American accent even though he's from Glasgow. I will get him to tell you all on Friday.
John and I were treading the boards, as they say, at the same time in the West End and without realising we crossed paths many times, even though we were across the way in Theatres.
When I was in '42nd St' at Drury Lane, John was making his West End debut playing Billy Crocker in 'Anything Goes' at the Prince Edward Theatre. I was off for one night resting a knee injury and hobbled to the Prince Edward to see the show that everyone was raving about.
It was fabulous and a new star was born. Other shows followed for John, including 'Miss Saigon', 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Chicago', 'Le Cage Aux Folles' and 'Sunset Boulevard' playing opposite Betty Buckley and Elaine Page.
John is a huge fan of QVC and you may remember he phoned in one evening during my show with Malcolm from Lock & Lock, it must have been my kitchen skills that so impressed him. Yeah, right!
As well as talking about his new album on Friday, John will be staying with me to talk about some of his favourite QVC products.
See you on Friday at 2pm for John Barrowman's QVC debut appearance.
