Jewels for Jools

17

Today is our eighth Jewellery Day on QVC and everything on-air is on Easy Pays! Along with some of our best-loved jewellery ranges, Honora, Lola Rose, Links of London etc., we are launching a range called Extraordinary Life. This is message jewellery, which is hugely popular at the moment and I have loved wearing the bangle with the word ‘Believe’ on it. I think I should start dropping a few hints to him indoors!

Extraordinary Life bangle - 664445

I’m on air today at my normal time of 5pm but there is no Fashion on Friday, although I will be showing you some fashionable jewellery from Honora with Ralph Rossini. Then I have Jewellery Gift Ideas at 8pm and Bronzo Italia at 9pm.

If you miss the on air shows you can still take advantage of over two hundred additional offers over the weekend on our website – maybe treat yourself to something as well as a bit of Christmas shopping.

Speaking of treats, how was your Halloween? Ours was very uneventful with no-one knocking on the door for any of the sweets that we had bought in readiness. I’m glad I’m not a sweet eater or that would have been a few unwanted calories if I had succumbed – Sophie will be taking them into her office with her when she goes back after being off sick. Even though Wilfie is a house cat, he wasn’t taking any chances on Halloween!!!

Plant with purple berries

I wonder if you have been affected by the fog this week? We had three days of it with a couple of days not clearing at all. No sign of the threatened snow yet but it is pretty miserable out today. Thank goodness for the typical oranges and golds that fill our gardens at this time of year but we also have this shrub with its wonderful purple berries. Once again I’m asking the gardeners among you if you have any ideas about what it is?

So, as I mentioned, Sophie has been off sick from work with a nasty cough and chest infection, not to mention aches and pains. She hates being inactive so I kept her busy over the weekend by having her read through the finished manuscript of ‘If He Really Loved Me…’ She is a good sounding board for a younger person’s point of view, plus she is great at spotting typos and grammatical mistakes. The good news is that it got the Sophie seal of approval, with a few alterations, so I was able to send it to the formatter on Wednesday, meaning I’m still planning on a publication date of 25th November.

Someone else off work with a chest infection is our lovely Kathy Tayler. Kathy was the first person outside my family to read ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’ and I really value her opinion so, on Wednesday, I emailed her to ask if she would like to read a PDF copy of the manuscript. When I got home from work on Thursday, there was an email from her:

Hi Julia
Wow!
I loved it! Read it in one – the perfect way to force myself to rest, and a great easy-read feel-good book for when I’m not feeling good myself… I think it is probably even better than the first. I love the way you have woven things into the storyline whose significance you only realise later in the book….. I REALLY enjoyed reading it – you should be extremely pleased and proud. And you’d better start working on the next one pretty quick!

I hope you will like it too and I will put a taster excerpt from it on here next week, plus you can check out my Julia Roberts TV Facebook page of course if you are interested. It’s gratifying to know that people want to know what happens next in Holly’s and Harry’s lives. Imogen Connelly and Michele Hope were both quizzing me about the sequel this week but I didn’t give anything away.

Decleor skincare collection

I’m off this weekend so unfortunately I will miss working with Fiona Brackenbury on the Decleor Today’s Special Value. Charlie Brook was very excited about it when he returned to work this week – it’s so good to have him back! I think it has my favourite handcream in it, which we were out of stock of on our website when I tried to order it the other day – I can feel another QVC purchase coming on. I haven’t reached a decision on whether to go for a Macbook Air yet – maybe I should just stick with a PC as I’m so hopeless on computers.

Enjoy the fireworks if you’re going to a display this weekend

Much love,

Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
Lovely blog as always. I think you will find the plant is called Callicapaa, we have had one in our garden for many years and it just gets better and better.
Really looking forward to the book, I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
    Have a fab weekend

      Hi Teresa
Thanks for telling me what my shrub is called. I think it got a bit leggy when the garden was overgrown before we moved in but we’ll keep pruning it into a better shape.
I’m glad you’re looking forward to my new book – the kindle is on pre – order now and I have put an excerpt on my new blog.
      Love

Hello Julia, I love Jewellery day it’s the sweetie shop for us grown up girls and brings out the magpie in me. I was very tempted by so many gorgeous items but with our younger daughter’s wedding in just over six weeks time and me still dithering over my choice of outfit, currently on number six, I limited myself to a very stylish pair of Frank Usher earrings. Autumn has always been my favourite season, even if I do find it difficult to say goodbye to Summer, and when the Sun is shining in a clear blue sky and the leaves are at their dazzling best it is a wonderful time of the year. However, when the days are dark, dank and filled with lingering fog it is just grim AND the moisture makes my hair fluffy. We didn’t have any trick or treaters last week but there have been fireworks locally every night since and Sox isn’t very impressed with being confined to the house as soon as it gets dark – I thought Wilfie was a very sensible cat but he needs to train his tail to be clever as well! Finally, your shrub is a Callicarpa and is known as beautyberry. It comes from southeast Asia and the berries can be used to make wine but they are more often used as an insect repellent. Enjoy your weekend. Love from Jo x

      Hi Jo
I am a summer sunshine girl at heart but I do love the colours of Autumn just not the foggy or miserable days.
I agree with you about the fireworks – I’m not an old grump and I understand why some displays are on the 5th and some on the nearest Saturday but night after night – you have to feel sorry for the animals who are out in it – the wild animals too.
Thanks for the info on the callicarpa – you girls are a mine of information on here.
Hope you decide on a wedding outfit soon
      Love

    Hi Julia,
Just tried posting a comment but my laptop still seems to be playing up ! ! So here we go again.
Sorry to hear Sophie hasn’t been well. There seems to be a lot of it going about. Anyway I hope she’s feeling better and on the mend.
Well what a let down Guy Fawkes was. We were planning to stay down Porthcawl to watch the display but the rain put pay to that and we headed home. We had such lovely weather over the weekend to. It must be awful though trying to keep pets indoors as the fireworks seem to be going off at all times now!
I watched a bit of the jewellery day today but didn’t indulge. I had my Lulu Guinness Bird Cage umbrella instead which I think I will need more especially over the coming months.
I’ll be keeping a lookout re: Morgans Hotel.
Take care and enjoy your days off.
    Love Tina x

      Hi Tina
Sophie is much better now thanks and fingers crossed I’ve managed to keep it at bay although I did feel a bit fragile on Monday.
It’s a shame your firework display was rained off – there were loads around here and at Chiswick where the QVC studios are.
Well I’m definitely coming to Swansea next weekend but I haven’t had chance to speak to Morgan’s hotel this week as I’ve been so immersed in the final preparations for the book – so much to do that I never realised before I self-published! I’ll try and speak to them Monday but it’s probably a bit short notice now and besides it would be nice to be able to bring some copies of the new book which I don’t think I’ll have by next weekend. Leave it with me – we’ll definitely do it.
      Have a good weekend
      Love
      Julia x

Hi Julia, we only had my grandchildren harry and ellie come on Halloween both dressed as zombies they are (12and9) their make up was really good done all by Harry .At the moment we have lots of fireworks going off near us but its not bothering our cat ,he is fast asleep he didn’t like the fog and damp weather last few days ,doesn’t like wet paws.like you lam glad the snow hasn’t come yet ,but must say I do enjoy it when it first comes not when it turns to ice though, hope you have a good weekend ,love linda f xx

      Hi Linda
The fireworks don’t bother our old cat, Poppy, cos she’s as deaf as a post, bless her. She sometimes miaows really loudly because she obviously can’t hear herself. She is amazing for twenty and a half though!
I love watching the snow from the warmth of the house or even making snowmen but after the initial excitement it’s just hassle really.
      Speak soon

    Hi Julia,
I did not notice where Wilfie was to start with, then noticed the tail, great shot.

Sorry to hear Sophie has not been well, hope she is feeling better.

Yes it is good to see Charlie back on air.

Did get the Decleor TSV plus one for Heidi for Christmas, We both love their products.

Heidi trained with the IFA to do massage and Aromatherapy , then worked in a Country Hotel Spa where she trained and worked with Decleor .

Don’t no what the shrub is but it is really pretty.

Hope you enjoy your weekend off.

    Love Jean XX

      Hello Jean
Wilfie can hide better than that – on top of the fridge freezer is a good one, or up in the attic, but I thought that was really funny.
Sophie is better now, thanks for asking.
I didn’t really have time to do much last weekend – I was writing the first chapter of book three in the trilogy so that it could go in the back of book two – I am starting to wonder if I’m a workaholic!
I made time to do an apple crumble with some of our frozen apples – delicious.
      Love

    Hi Julia
I hope you got sorted with a replacement jug for your Vitamix. I would be truly lost without mine now. It gets used every day without fail. What is it about guys not reading the manuals? Or is it a Chris thing?!!
I got a couple more Christmas presents sorted on Jewellery Day. the Extraordinary Life ‘Sister’ bracelet which I know my sister will love, and some Honora earrings for Chris’s Mum. We’ve bought her a pair for the last couple of years and she’s loved them.
Halloween was very quiet for us too. it doesn’t bother Camper these days, his hearing is not what it was. In any case, we had Strictly on full blast! Are you watching it? I just love Jay. He’s so unassumingly brilliant and that Argentine Tango was totally mesmerising. My favourite dance ever. I would love to learn that one. Is it in your repartee?
We were off work last week (leave rather than sick – get well soon Sophie). Most days were pretty dank but we didn’t have too much fog. Good excuse to chill out a bit more and watch Game of Thrones! I bought Chris seasons 1 to 4 on Blue-ray earlier this year and we’re now up to season 3. Are you a fan?
Didn’t get the Decleor Tsv for obvious reasons! Though it was a great one. I’m looking forward to Sunday’s!!
Well, I think I’ve kept you long enough so just to finish with how good book 2 sounds. Can’t wait!
    Love
    Marian xx

      Hi Marian
I bet you’re excited for this weekend – are you team frangipani or team sweet orchid? Okay, I guess you’re both!
How’s Camper – that did make me chuckle!
Yes I am watching Strictly – I love Jay but I thought Peter Andre’s charleston was superb. At least on that show they do tend to sort the wheat from the chaff unlike X Factor – how on earth did Sean Miley Moore end up in the bottom two – ridiculous! My favourites are Che and Louisa – at least they can sing.
Not into Game of Thrones although to be fair I haven’t watched it, it just doesn’t appeal.
Finally got book 2 uploaded so now available to pre-order on kindle with paperback to follow shortly.
Maybe speak Sunday?.?. In my 8pm show
      Love
      Julia x

    Me again Julia.
Apologies for the spelling mistakes – doing this on my mobile whilst stuck in a major traffic jam! Chris is driving :-).
Not sure how Casper will feel about his new name!
    xx
