Its really exciting to be able to launch the Jay Manuel Beauty range in the UK – another first for QVC at the forefront of emerging, on-trend talent and brands.
I’m sure you will recognise Jay as he has spent the last decade on some of the hottest TV fashion and style shows. I have certainly loved watching Americas Next Top Model (for which he is probably most famous) and seeing the skill set required of an emerging model and how they coach them in all aspects throughout the series. I have found it fascinating to watch these people being coaxed out of their shells or ‘attitudes’ and being taught by seasoned pros like Jay, that modelling is hard work and a skill and you have to deliver something that your customer wants or they don’t book you!
His other shows include Fashion Police and many red carpet events such as the Emmy’s, Grammy’s, Golden Globes and Academy Awards. Jay’s face and expertise has been blazoned across the TV screens of 150 countries but also, with a massive social media following, millions of people have engaged with him across all platforms.
So, what’s different about him?
Jay has been able to have an unprecedented, analytical look through his whole artistry and style design career and has managed to encapsulate his beliefs within a make-up range where the advice and his inspiration are just as important as the product. This close-up look at our faces and the persona that make-up gives us has given him an insightful and inspiring approach to how we should wear our make-up.
‘Beauty is deeply personal, purely individual and surprisingly public’ – Jay Manuel
Jay loves helping you find your own style which allows you to walk the path depicting the persona you wish to project or feel most comfortable in. He has identified that we all fit in to three different looks and we can play with these to experiment and gain confidence.
The first and perhaps the easiest is the Classic, which encapsulates a look which is always relevant no matter our age, job, persona.
The Iconic look is a strong statement of make-up that is remembered through time and you can own as your own style.
The Avant Garde is about throwing away all the rules and making your own statement.
Jay loves to engage with his followers on social media and I would certainly encourage you to do some research and enjoy his interactive app which is designed to help you choose and match your foundation and other products (if you have an iPhone you can download it from the App Store), and can create your own look.
The shades are split into categories of Light, Medium, and Deep, then subdivided into 1-4. So You can choose from Light 1-4, Medium 1-4, or Deep 1-4. So you will generally know which category you fall into, so then you can concentrate on just choosing from the four shades in the category.
Light is for you if you normally do porcelains, nudes, or fairs in other brands. Shade 1 is for true porcelains, 2 if you have freckles, 3 would be my winter shade, and 4 is my tanned fair shade at the moment.
If you are normally mediums, tans or honeys, go for the Medium range. Choose 1 for cooler tones, 2 if you have freckles, and then 3 & 4 are best for warmer and richer tanned (or self-tanned), meditaranean, honey, Asian, or mixed race with golden hues.
Deep is for true deeper tones of Asian, African, Caribbean and ethnic beauties with deeper tones. Shades 1 & 2 throw to cooler or richer undertones, whereas 3 & 4 are for really deep tones. This range offers a width of colours for deeper skintones better than any other brand we stock , with no ashy tones.
After first discussing and encouraging us into choosing our current and future style, he has applied equal importance to the performance of the make-up through advanced technologies such as silicone and encapsulation to give a real smoothness and float to application, and evenly disperse colour payoff, micronised silk to soften the look of fine lines and absorb oils, micro minerals to enhance your skin tone and give a healthy effect, diamond powders for a luminous soft-focus glow, anti-oxidants, and even crushed gemstones to reflect light, highlight the complexion and give a supermodel-smooth look and lustre. He has also developed Filter Finish technology which, especially in his complexion products, give true shades that don’t change on the skin as well as prime, fill in and smooth, diffuse light and soften to give a more magazine-style finish in real life.
We are all very excited backstage at QVC UK to welcome Jay and his team to the UK, one of whom, Frank Gayton (his lead artist), is famous in his own right, having done make-up for so many celebrities, editorials, films, music, videos and TV, such as Oprah, Good Morning America, and The Today Show to name but a few. So the level of knowledge and expertise that we can share with you will be so exciting.
We are filming some special shows with Jay and the team for the Beauty Channel and we will be doing lots of social media so it will be great for you to get involved and I am sure that you will be thrilled, like I am, for the opportunity of another great first in the UK and European market place brought to you by us.
My greatest worry is what on earth am I going to wear as he’s going to scrutinise every inch of me and he’s used to supermodels – eeek! Help!!! I’m planning the wardrobe now!
P.s. Perhaps he should bring a fashion range too!
