Spring is coming!

Spring flowersI've just seen a beautiful border of daffodils in full flower. It cheered me up no end! Now that the days are getting longer and my planted containers looking prettier, it really does feel that spring is just around the corner.

This has spurred me into action. I've started to plan a couple of new plantings in the front garden with a mix of hardy perennials, grasses and some shrubs. In my trial gardens, I've decided to grow some chrysanthemums as well as some rather interesting new varieties of bedding.

This weekend I'm launching my brand new multi-purpose compost on QVC.

I've used compost for years and, through my own experience and also having worked for Fisons who developed the famous Levington compost, I know how much it can vary. So I've based mine on professional composts and have used a special mix of 75% peat and 30% wood fibre for better root growth and better drainage. I've also added some rather special ingredients! These include Flower Power nutrients, Root Booster humates, extra wetting agent for moisture control as well as seaweed extract for healthy growth. I've had great results using it and I'm really pleased to be able to make it available to QVC gardeners.

In the meantime, I'm developing plans for a special Garden Re-Leaf show to be broadcast at 9am on Saturday 9th March on QVC. We're be selling lots of very special plants and products, and the suppliers will be donating at least £1 for every pack sold. All the money we raise will be given to Greenfingers, the charity of the gardening industry, who build much needed gardens at children's hospices. Our show is just one of the many nationwide Garden Re-Leaf activities taking place in garden centres around the country in the same week.
