We caught up with Els ahead of her QVC debut, to find out more about her and get some top tips…
How did you get into crafting and how long have you been crafting for?
I've been crafting all my life. I made pottery as a little girl in the Netherlands and coloured with felt-tipped markers and loved to work with beads to make bracelets.
What are your favourite craft projects to create and why?
It's hard to narrow it down, but two of my favourite craft projects are making cards and tags (take a look at some of my work below). I love everything about the process, the materials, the way I can combine colours and have something wonderful in front of me when I'm finished. I can tuck a few things into my carry-on when I travel or spread out in the studio!
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from nature and art. Just look around you and inspiration is everywhere.
What do you think are the hot trends in crafting right now?
The hot trends I see are mixed media, card making, and beads. All of these allow beginners to have great results.
What is your top tip for crafters?
My top tip for crafters is this… Have FUN and set aside time to do what you love, whether it's a few minutes, a few hours, or an entire weekend.
What items do you think are essential for every crafter to have?
I think every crafter needs high-quality scissors, a good task light, a paper trimmer, a ruler and craft knife, plus plenty of peel-offs, cardstock, and pens! Actually, everyone's 'essentials' list will be slightly different. I think I'd add that some kind of storage boxes should be on the list, too.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include crafting, of course, and I love to spend time with my husband and my grown son and daughter, who are both in business with me. We all hike and ski and love the outdoors and to explore nature too.
