In the posh seats!!

Julia at Selhurst with Denise If you read my blog regularly, some of you may remember a post I had towards the end of the last football season inviting me to go and watch a Crystal Palace match from an executive box.

Well last Saturday I took Denise up on her very kind offer (she works for one of the new Crystal Palace owners) and went to watch my first game of the season Palace vs. Blackpool.

Palace have actually had a pretty good start to this season, so I was hoping I wasn't going to jinx them! Having been a goal down at half time I was pleased with the result, a 1 – 1 draw. The photo (left) was taken at the end of the game as the stands were emptying out, but as you can see it's a pretty good view from the 'posh' seats!!!

I don't really mind where I watch from so long as I am there supporting my team, but I must admit it was lovely to be wined and dined and then taken up to the Directors box for the post match 'analysis'. All the new owners are really approachable and I have high hopes for my team after the dramas of the last few years, almost ceasing to exist at one point.

I have more football on Tuesday night as once again my son Daniel has tickets for the England game at Wembley – something to do with being a FIFA accredited coach I think – so more footie to look forward to.

It's been a very busy week for me as I've covered a couple of extra days at QVC due to sickness. It worked out quite well though as I hadn't done a show with Jennifer Kirk from Kirk's Folly for ages and I did two on consecutive days! I treated her to a new 'wand' as her grandson had 'borrowed' hers back in America and I didn't think a 'fairy godmother' should be without a wand LOL!!!

It was also my partner Chris's birthday on Tuesday so more cake indulging has gone on this week – coffee and walnut this time. It's a good job Marjolein and her Pilates machine are on over these few days so I can do a bit of extra exercise even though I'm at work!

I did leave a piece of cake for Ali Young as I know it's one of her favourites – I think Chris is hoping that his generosity will encourage her to let me come home when I've finished work. If Ali is in, we get so busy chatting that I'm always late home for dinner. These days Chris just checks the schedule and adjusts dinner time accordingly.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ali Keenan at her gathering on Sunday and hoping that the weather will stay nice – it's beautiful here today. Hope you all have a great weekend,

love Julia x

Hi Julia glad you enjoyed your exec box, i to a few years ago won a competition to watch Arsenal v Reading at the Emirates from an exec box it was really nice to be wined and dined, Thiery henry waved up at us as well, but all i went on about was the size of the strawberries, they were HUGH!
Good luck to Palace for the season i think Arsenal are going to need a lot of luck Sunday’s game against Man U was shocking although with the new signing i think we will be ok

Bet you knew who would be first to comment on this one! Certainly looks like a good view from where you were sitting. Hopefully Palace keep up their good start to the campaign. When are you going back?!
Daniel sounds like a handy guy to know for getting tickets! It’s Wales that England play isn’t it? The Welsh should be fired up for that one. Any Home International is always like that. I think England are in Bulgaria tonight. 2 wins likely for Mr Capello#s men I think.
Well unlike with Palace I can’t really say I hope your team win, but I hope you enjoy Wembley again. I’d like to go there sometime – get Daniel to give me a buzz the next time lol :-)
Give Ali my best when you see her too. I know she’ll be in a lot of people’s thoughts at the moment.
Have a great weekend and speak soon x

Hi Julia,i have been to Cystal Palace ground a number of times with my Woldingham and croydon friends not in the posh seats though, but i did go with a business couple to the Southampton presedential suit (when they were in the premiership) and was wined and dined, met Theo Wallcot and another new player forget his name, really enjoyable time. I expect Southampton will get back on top again soon. My partner is a Portsmouth supporter, going to get a match in before our holiday, he’s been very busy resturant has been full of holiday makers.Taken the plunge and ordered tha new pilates machine while it’s on offer,(and a extra bottle of Decleor Solair,) the 4th bedroom is now to become a Gym, i don’t know how you managed to excerise last night in jeans, they looked so tight on you so i suppose they did hold it all in. lol.Off to spain again to sort the new beds etc out, then unpack and repack for Egypt in oct. Then back from there in november and a wedding fair to visit at the hotel we are having our reception at. Then dare i say it “Christmas”. Oh my. Enjoy spain i know i will.

    Julie,
Glad you enjoyed your football match and to watch it in the posh seats made it more enjoyable I expect. Managed to get the Decleor TSV early through the email they sent me a couple of days ago, Christmas present for my daughter as she loves their products and of course Elemis, they are both lovely to use on your skin. Also treated myself to the Yong Kim striped tunic in black and blue today, love her clothes, Heidi my daughter has some of her tops and tunics, they are so smart and well made. Yes we had a good day with our Labradors last week at the Help the Hereos event, not sure how much was raised yet. I bet your Mum loves her kitten, one of our cats, Guiness who is half Siamese has suddendly gone deaf, he panics if he cannot find you, mind you my cats do not go outside so he cannot get lost, well he does sometimes in the house, you just have to listen for the loud meow, as he cant hear you calling him. Will have to get him a deaf aid or use sign language. Have a good weekend.

    Hi Julia
What a treat to watch your team from the directors box, sounds as if you had a good match and a draw is better than a lose eh!! I’m a Glasgow Rangers supporter, my family have supported them for a good while(we’ve traced it back to the team forming,in 1874) so we(me,two brothers and cousins, with some of their family members)are real Ger’s diehards,it fills me with pride and emotion when i watch the boys.I think? we(Palace and Rangers) share the similar if not the same colours – Red,White and Blue? We have a family box at Ibrox(stadium in Glasgow we play from) and it is nice to watch the game from – but would much prefer the directors box any dayx Our manager is now Ali McCoist who was one of our most successful players – he won the Golden Boot(a few times) for having scored the most goals in that particular season(s) – he is proving to be a good manager, but then he learned from the best, our previous manager Walter Smith.I love football and could go on for hours so i had better shutup. Best wishes to Chris on his birthday. Glasgow is slighty downcast(weather wise)today but ever the optomist i’m still hoping for some sun(incase Ali Y reads this i’m always covered in factor 50(body) and 30(face)if out in the sun, love Ali she’s been my beauty guru since 1995 and she’s taught me so muchx). Anyway Julia,i hope you and all the QVC mob and of course our lovely Ali K enjoys her get togetherx Look after yourselfx Love Linda,Glasgow

    Hi Julia
Chris and I were lucky enough to do the same thing at the Emrites Stadium last year. It was a fabulous experience. We had a lovely meal and were entertained over dinner by a fantastic magician and some of the former Arsenal players. Heck, the footie match wasn’t half bad either!
i wouldn’t be without my Pilates machine. I use it every day without fail, it’s been an absolute godsend to me since I started suffering with back problems three years ago.
It’s my Chris’s 40th on 1 October, so an excuse for a BIG cake!

I am so glad you enjoyed the day. I REALLY enjoyed meeting you and Dan. Next time bring Sophie too.
I am going to Wigan next Tuesday. If you were free you could have come. Or are you off on holiday now?
Haven’t tried my nail colours yet as we were in Dublin at the weekend. Well, it was Kildare. We stayed at the K club and it was amazing – our friends got married there.

    Hi Debi
Those were the days for Arsenal – Thierry Henri, what a gifted player! I was really sad to see Cesc Fabregas go but I think the player wanted it so much Wenger really didn’t have much choice in the matter. I was wondering if he would be able to hang onto his job but maybe the new signings will save him?? It’s early days in the season, plenty of time to make up lost ground!
Hope both our teams have a good season

You must have been spitting feathers after the Scotland game – was it a penalty??

    Hi Kathy
I’m glad you went for the Pilates machine – I really like this new one with the wider footbar. That will have you looking fab in your wedding dress! As you know those jeans have got plenty of stretch in them ( just as well ) and it’s always tricky when you have a fitness show as the third hour in a run of three, especially as the previous hour was fashion.
I might be able to persuade Denise to take Dan and I ( and maybe Sophie too ) to the Pompey game – guess who I’ll be cheering on LOL!
Have a good time in Spain – haven’t even checked the weather, just looking forward to a bit of a break before the Christmas rush

    Hi Linda
My second Rangers fan to post on this blog! Steven and I chat about football a lot …… he is a ‘secret’ Palace fan now I think! Ally McCoist was a good player and as you say he does seem to be sorting the team out – shame about your poor form in Europe though. Still I guess domestic trophies are the ones to win, particularly with your Celtic rivalry.
Ali was very lucky with the weather on Sunday – apparently it had poured with rain in the early afternoon but by the time we got there it was blue skies and sunshine!

It is fab isn’t it – I don’t suffer with back problems fortunately but I know loads of people who it has really helped …. still haven’t managed to get my Chris on it with any regularity though.
Well done correcting your spelling – I often make errors and don’t spot them …. as you’ve probably noticed LOL!

    Hi Julia
Looks like you’ve made a friend for life there with Denise…how lucky to get in the posh seats, what a real treat for you and Dan.
The nearest I’ve ever come to anything like that, was lunch at Aston Villa overlooking the pitch…no match on though, I was working for a Quality Assurance company at the time, so we were there doing an assessment and treated to lunch, which was really nice.
Afraid my following of football was back in the 60/70’s and went as soon as all the foreign players came in and I didn’t recognise anybody. My heros though were Bobby Charlton and George Best…that’s when football was football, more about the game, not to mention the ‘short shorts’ LOL!
Hope you enjoyed the Wales/England match last night.

2 Rangers fans now Julia! We get everywhere! I was in your neck of the woods the last 3 days. Went on the London eye and had a visit to the houses of Parliament among other things. Glad to be back for a rest! England were a little bit lucky against Wales I have to say. How Earnshaw missed is beyond me! I could have scored!
Back to domestic matters now isn’t it. Who do Palace play next?

    Hi Annette
I’d like to say the England v Wales game was entertaining but…… actually in fairness the first half was OK particularly the link up down the left hand side of the pitch, but second half England seemed to just be defending a 1 – 0 lead which is never comfortable viewing! I think he should have brought Andy Carroll on earlier.
I watched Palace v Man Utd at Villa Park in a cup semi a few years back – all I remember from that game is someone ( Beckham if I remember rightly ) trod on our goalie Nigel Martyn’s fingers and broke them. He was out for the rest of the season and Palace were relegated!
Sounds like your visit to Villa Park was happier than mine!

Hope you enjoyed Simon’s do at his shop, did Ali Young go too? Must say I could not take my eyes of Ali’s eyelashes yesterday, I think it’s the first time I’ve seen her in what I hope to be falsies, or if not, the mascara was brilliant, they weren’t half fluttering!
Chris is off the week after next, so maybe we’ll get the odd day away, whatever the weather.
