Very impressed… on lots of levels!

Wow! So, you clearly like a competition giving away lots of make-up products for you to try…

There were more than a thousand entries but only one winner, who I shall announce later in this blog. That’s not the only thing that has impressed me this week!

As I mentioned on last week’s blog, my mum came to visit us from Nottingham for a few days. I told you about the Amazon Fire tablets I bought for her and also for Chris’s mum, Audrey, for Christmas.

Mum had a bit of a slow start with hers, because of an internet hub problem, but I’m delighted to say she really has got the hang of it now. The first thing she does after breakfast each morning is check the weather on her tablet – not bad for a ninety-year-old, self-confessed technophobe (just like her daughter I hear you say!). Unfortunately the weather was a bit mixed for her visit, but we did have an absolutely glorious day on Sunday.

Wednesday morning’s arrival of the five Compass Home’s ivy trellis Today’s Special Values I ordered was something else to be impressed with, we spent most of the day outside.

Mum wanted to buy me an early birthday present, so we wandered around trying to decide on a place for a new shrub. To be honest, my back garden is pretty well-stocked, but I have been wondering what to put in the two rather large planters that flank the steps up to my front door since the leylandii that were in there died, last summer.

Following an al fresco lunch, we popped along to my local garden centre where Mum treated me to a couple of choisya and also some osteospernum. Luckily, I didn’t need any compost as I already had some Richard Jackson compost and, for the first time, I have planted using Richard Jackson’s Root Booster so I am looking forward to some spectacular results!

While I was outside planting, Mum was indoors reading my new book on her Kindle. This is another impressive first. She usually prefers to read ‘actual’ books but as ‘Alice in Theatreland’ is not out until next month in paperback, she decided she couldn’t wait. For more information on my author alter ego check my website www.juliarobertsauthor.com – a new blog went up on there this week.

I wonder if you recognise the duster coat Mum is wearing? It was a MarlaWynne Today’s Special Value last year and the colour is perfect on her. If you’re a fan of Marla Wynne, we have a Today’s Special Value coming up soon – so stay tuned.

Chris dropped my Mum home on Tuesday after lunch, while I caught up with a bit of housework and had a session in the gym. Then on Wednesday we went to visit our son in Bristol to make a start on tidying his garden. I bought the Karcher pressure washer a few week’s back but it had been languishing in its box as I was so busy with other stuff.

I need to do the block paving on our drive, but Dan’s fence was far more pressing. It was a bit tricky running the hose from his bathroom and out of the bedroom window across the roof of his conservatory, but thankfully we have the flexible hose which worked a treat. If you’ve ever wondered whether pressure washers really are as effective as the on air demonstrations, take a look at these photos… what a difference!

We also took three of the ivy trellis Today’s Special Values to brighten up the dark brown fence and I bought some more choisya and osteospernum plants (they are not the ones Mum bought me, in case you were wondering) to put in the red and blue tubs I had from QVC a month or so ago. It really is starting to look like a proper garden now and is very sunny.

So, enough rambling, I need to announce the lucky winner of my competition. Thanks to everyone who entered and I will get around to replies for those of you who left more than just the answer to the question. It was, of course: B, The Darling Buds of May.

The randomly selected winner is Sharon Nash. Congratulations, Sharon, I hope you will enjoy experimenting with all the make-up.

For those of you who love your make-up, there is a Mally Today’s Special Value today as part of our two day Get Gorgeous event and we are also celebrating Doll10‘s fifth QVC anniversary on Sunday. I have a show with Doris at 3pm and directly after we have a Facebook Live chat over on QVC UK’s Facebook page.

Post your questions or comments early and we’ll try to answer all of them. What is your favourite Doll 10 product? I think mine has to be the fabulous lip crayons.

And to finish, I thought I would mention something else impressive!

Several of you have been asking after my elderly cat, Poppy. The last couple of years have been full of ups and downs in regard to eating. Some days she refuses to eat anything and other days she is affectionately referred to by our daughter, Sophie, as ‘pig’ cat!

This was a ‘pig’ cat day.

She had just finished a whole tin of food and was asking, rather loudly, for more – well, she is deaf so has no idea how loud she is! Although she is a messy eater (Wilfie doesn’t mind as he clears up after her) she’s not doing badly for a cat who is twenty-two next month!

Right, I must dash as it’s midday and I’m on air at 3pm today with Nails Inc and then a Summer Catwalk show as today’s Fashion on Friday.

Have a great weekend,

Love,
Julia x
