Well as many of you will already know, I’ve been recovering from an appendectomy, which was not the best way to start 2018. (You can read about it in my previous blog). Although it wasn’t fun, it was nice to get some enforced rest and to just slow down a little. Sometimes we just don’t give ourselves time to just be and not be rushing from one thing to the next. My mum came down to stay to help look after me while Fred concentrated on the girls. He however went down with ‘Man Flu’ and suddenly my abdominal surgery didn’t get quite the same sympathy anymore, haha.
Oh well, just as well I’m made of tougher stuff! I am however back to feeling myself again and back to work which I was very much looking forward to, as I missed it a lot. Thank you so much to the overwhelming number of messages I’ve had, I really appreciate them, you’re all lovely and I’ve hopefully now replied to them all!
So now I’m back at work and on my first weekend we launched the brand new feature ‘Fashion Fix at 4’, which you can catch every Saturday and Sunday (unless there’s a Beauty event) at, you guessed it, 4pm. It’s a great way to discover lots of our fashion brands in one show. On the Saturday I was joined by one of my favourite fashion guests Caroline Macleod-Smith and on Sunday Jenny Blackhurst, whom I haven’t worked with before but was lovely to work with. If you saw it I would love to know what you thought of it, as the format is very different to the way we normally do fashion.
During the week we did a pre-record and some rehearsals for a new beauty show with the women behind Beauty Mart, which will be On QVC Beauty on Thursday 1st Feb. Milly Kendall MBE and Anna-Marie Solowij know everything there is to know about beauty. Anna-Marie is the former beauty editor at Vogue and Elle and Millie has launched a number of the biggest beauty brands around. At Beauty Mart they choose their favourite products and only the ones that they feel really work, and that’s what they are bringing to us at QVC. The rehearsal was great and the ladies were fantastic, we are going to learn a lot from them.
While we were there we had some extra special visitors to the studio. Some of our lovely QVC customers had been invited in for the day to talk about some of their favourite Dyson products and got a tour of the live studios. It was so nice to meet them as we only ever get to talk to a camera. We love to hear from you guys here and on social media but you can’t beat a real face to face can you?!
Outside of QVC
This weekend, it was all about my mum. It’s a big birthday for her, I won’t say which one as she’ll kill me! She and my dad came down to stay at The Pig on the Beach over at Studland Dorset, which I’ve mentioned before as it’s a favourite of ours. Fred had to go away for a good friend’s wedding in N.Ireland but I of course stayed home to be with my mum to celebrate. My sister came down and we headed over on the chain ferry with Tilda and Ivy for a wonderful lunch.
The conservatory is beautiful and the service really is top notch, it’s the most incredible setting too looking out over the sea and ‘Old Harry’ which are the white chalk formations at the Isle of Purbeck. My parents had a great time, I’ve been wanting them to come here for so long as I knew they would love it. We had a wonderful lunch with plenty of Prosecco and an amazing Red Velvet birthday cake which as you can imagine the kids couldn’t get enough of. It was also an opportunity for me to wear my latest QVC purchase, the Ruth Langsford faux leather skirt with Ponte side panels. This is going to be a firm favourite in my wardrobe as it will go with so much that I already have.
What I’m using in beauty
We are so lucky to get to use so many of the products that QVC has to offer and I try to rotate them as much as possible to make sure I really know how they work on my skin so I can share my experience with you on air. So I thought I would try and show you rather than just tell you about the make-up that I am currently using regularly with this video. This is my everyday make-up routine and just some of my go to beauty brands, all from QVC of course! I have listed them below for you to click to, and if it’s out of stock I have given you the closest match.

What i’m wearing
In fashion, I’m having a bit of a ‘trainer moment’. I have felt the need to be extra comfortable lately, so I have been kicking about in these, my beloved Vionics. You may already know I’m a magpie for metallic so I ordered these the moment I saw them in Rose Gold. Perfect for those of us who want a bit more support for our arches.
I’ve also been trying out the Nina Leonard Today’s Special Value dress that’s coming your way this Thursday 26th January. There are six different colours to suit all tastes, Deep sea Blue, Light Rouge, Black, Dark Olive, Grape and Sage. I have the blue but equally would wear the Olive and the Light Rouge too. It’s one of the easiest throw on dresses there is, stylish, flattering, contemporary with the elastic hem and machine washable. You can style this with tights and knee high boots for colder seasons but also bare legs, heels and flats and also a good blazer or leather jacket, as I have. It has some nice tailored details which gives it a great shape.
What I’m cooking
I just love to cook, it’s one of my favourite past times so I thought I would start to share some of the things I have been making. I do tend to throw things together by instinct or because of what’s in the fridge, sometimes I get inspired by recipes on Pinterest but I always tweak them in some way. I’ve been trying to be quite healthy while I have been getting better and also because it’s the January thing to do!
So I made up some really good soup, roasted butternut and carrot soup with tarragon to be precise. First I cut the squash in three, scooped the inside out and drizzled with Olive Oil, Salt and Tarragon and roasted it for about 35 mins. I simmered a whole white onion and the chopped carrots in a pan and once softened added a large jug of chicken and vegetable stock ( I just used Oxo Cubes). Once the squash was out of the oven I scooped the flesh out of the skin and added it to the pan. I then used a stick blender directly into the pan to make it smooth. Done! Sooooooo easy, so tasty and pretty healthy too.
So that’s it from me for this week, I hope you enjoyed the blog. I’m going to do my best to make a regular post every Tuesday, so make sure to check in each week for my latest top picks and what I’ve been up to. Meanwhile keep up with my over on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Lots of Love Katy x
