I was as high as a kite!

Simon surrounded by kites at the beach Well, I made it away for a weekend break with my brother and brother-in-law to Tarifa, Spain. Thanks so much for all your help on how to get there and giving me the Spanish for Ibuprofen (luckily I didn’t need it!).

Tarifa is a quiet spot over the coast from North Africa, about 25 mins from Gibraltar. Very unspoiled and very Spanish, but the main feature - very windy!  That’s why it's the location for the world kitesurfing championships this year.  Kites flying at the beach

The day we started, the winds were incredibly strong so that even flying the smallest kite was enough to lift me clean off the beach and have me flying through the air. Day two saw me wallowing about in the water trying to co-ordinate feet, board, kite and strings… without much success it has to said!

Simon's friend Siz with his kite Our friend, ‘Siz’, showed us how it should be done (see photo left) and with a few more days I think I could have got going.

Unfortunately the wind dropped so the last day was spent waiting on the beach, trying a few local drinks and trying not to get too burnt!

I’m off air next week at home building a chicken run and shed so I’ll let you know how I get on… such a varied life!

Have a nice weekend

Simon X

Well done on getting the chicken and good luck on trying to keep ‘Mr Fox’ out, just also make sure that any cats keep out too!

Such a pity that you only work weekday mornings. I really like to watch you, but these days it feels like you don’t work with QVC anymore as I can only watch afternoons, evenings and weekends. Please come back to QVC!!
