One of the things I love most about working for QVC is getting the chance to “test drive” new products, and the Today’s Special Value Haute Polish Gel Nails kit has been one of my favourites so far (it's coming up at midnight tonight!)
So if you’re thinking of trying it, here are some of my observations after using it for the first time.
1) Haute Polish says it “has revolutionised gel nail technology”. What that means for you and me is a really simple system.
If you’ve used other gel nail systems at home, or had them done in salons, you’ll know they usually involve a base coat (sometimes with a primer layer before that), one or two layers of polish, and then a top coat. With Haute, there is just one bottle – the nail colour – plus a couple of wipes, one to use before and one after. You prepare your nails in the usual way (tidy cuticles and buff the surface to remove the shine), then wipe, add polish, set under the LED light and wipe again. Easy!
2) The LED light, which is included, is easy to use too – just press the on button, place your nails under it and wait for it to turn off. This light also has an interesting feature – it has a name (Emily). And Emily talks to you, summarising the gel nail process. To be absolutely honest, this is useful at first and then gets a little irritating! Not a problem though, as you can turn her off simply by pressing the power button down for five seconds. Bye bye Emily!
3) The key to success with this system is THIN layers of polish. Because there is no base coat or top coat, this polish is somewhat thicker than you may be used to. Don’t overload the brush and paint on a very thin layer. It actually goes on very smoothly and self-levels so it’s quite easy. Then set under the light. You can add a couple more layers to build up the depth of colour if you want to, but don’t be tempted to put on a thick layer to save time – it needs to be thin to set properly!
4) The set comes with two great colours – a natural, nude shade called Ecru and a coral pink charmingly called Tickle! I used the pink on my nails (pictured above). I put on three thin coats and ended up with a gorgeous, glossy colour. Three coats might sound time-consuming but because it takes less than 60 seconds to set each layer, it’s actually really quick, and because no top coat is required that’s it, you’re done!
It’s a very simple system that results in shiny gel nails very quickly. I like it and will be using it regularly. I’d love to hear how you get on with it – let me know!
Tune in tonight for this fab TSV!
